The posturing about the "World XI" is super weird especially when talking about Roy and Stokes who moved there when they were kids.
And the great Archer played u19 for WI got a back injury and they werent interested in him . He basically couch surfed (homeless ), Jordan took him under his wing in England . Interesting read if anybody cared to research him .

Both Morgan and Archer wanted to play for England, it's not like the ECB kidnapped them and forced them to play for England against their will.

They would have much more lucrative careers playing for England than they would playing for Ireland or the West Indies so you can't really blame them.

Well it sounds like the WC is all over.....great performance by Eng in all facets of the game......good to see SA keep up their perennial under achievers WC status.....early days but Eng definitely showcasing their favourite status for this tournament....

If sa have taught us anything it's that looking unbeatable early in a world cup means stuff all when you are in a knockout semi or final, England are clear favourites and will breeze into the semis but that doesn't mean they are a sure thing.

P.S. I don't really think this game was example of sa underachieving, sa aren't one of the pre tournament favourites and they lost to the home side who are clear favourites it was the expected result.

Don't think SA are a 100 run weaker side than Eng either....because if they are doesn't look good for Aust then....considering SA easily beat Aust last they met in this format.....

Australia are clearly in much better form than that series last November. Not to mention are fielding a much more formidable side at the World Cup.

Gough what timeline do we want to work on with new daily threads opening and rolling people over to that new thread?

I don't know about most people but maybe about 3PM when everyone is nodding off at their desks and doing anything but working?

If they wanted to play for England because it's more lucrative and the ECB is largely responsible for that by being part of the realignment of world cricket, I would say that's coercion.

Our top 6 when we last played SA and lost 2-1 included Short, Lynn, Head & Carey. We just got destroyed by Steyn & Rabada.

The series before that when we lost to them 5-0 we had a bowling attack of Hastings, Zampa, Worall, Boland and Tremain.

We have pretty much treated one dayers as JLT matches between the WCs, you can't judge our prospects off that form.

Don't tell me mate....tell Graeme Swann that...just listened to him post match on the telly ....agree completely its early days, but you gotta admire all that English optimism ...either spot on or in line for a huge fall....

Is Graeme Swann commentating? Looks like I will have the telly on mute throughout the World Cup. Can't stand him.

I don't think it has much to do with the realignment of world cricket, England is just a stronger cricket nation on and off the field, it also has the best domestic cricket competitions in the world where many overseas players go to make a good living and they can make an even better living if they qualify for England.

Ireland has only recently gained test status and is still a minnow by International standards, they didn't even qualify for the World Cup so if Morgan had stayed with Ireland he'd probably be watching this tournament on the tv like the rest of us while the West Indies have been a rabble on and off the field for the better part of the last decade or two so you can't blame someone like Archer preferring to play for England.

Pretty much, says plenty that it wasn't even on free to air TV.
