Maxwell's bowling the only thing keeping him in the side

Marsh in provides the ability for a quickfire 30 that Stoinis is unable to deliver.

Wade very unlucky - but I reckon Smith has to go to 3 and Handscomb can control the middle overs against spin if required.

It is probably a better balanced batting side

Ideally Stoinis and Khawaja would've found some form but neither did and they've been scratching around putting pressure on the others. Absolute bonus both are out. Not saying they're terrible cricketers - good players have rough trots.

Handscombe would be unlucky but Wade is in rare touch and should've been in the squad in the first place. Likely to be a road - give the guys in form the longest time to bat. Don't waste Carey and his form down the order. Maxwell can shoulder that responsibility.

Warner
Finch
Smith
Carey
Wade
Marsh
Maxwell
Starc
Cummins
Behrendorff
Lyon

Wade must play. Seems to endlessly pile on mountains of runs in every format he plays in, and now doing it at an absurd strike rate.

Looking at that side strong in batting but worried about the 5th bowler spot especially if a good batting wicket.Maxwell would have to bowl nearly his 10 overs and perhaps M.Marsh for Wade although I would like to see Wade in the side. But the SA game Maxwell's bowling was OK,Starc,Cummins and Beheendorff let us down.

I hope they do play Wade, but think it’s unlikely. They replaced S. Marsh with Handscomb so he will get picked first.

Can’t see them not playing an allrounder & Maxwell won’t get dropped.

The only reason Maxwell will play is his bowling and fielding. His batting in the last 3 games is terrible and he has big issues currently with the short ball.

Hence why I've got Maxi as the all-rounder. It's a gamble in a way, but I think our bowling depth is poor enough that Maxwell is not a significant downgrade on whomever else you might bring into the side to bowl his overs instead. But it means we get two power-hitters in the middle order in Maxi and Wade, and two solid middle order batters in Handscomb and Smith. Combine that with our already-excellent opening partnership and Carey at 7 and you have a powerful and well balanced batting lineup.

With the bowlers the idea is that Dorf bowls his overs in the first half of the match where he's most effective. Starc bowls early on with the new ball and then later when he can get some reverse. Cummins bowls wherever he's needed. Maxwell mostly bowls through the middle, and Lyon bowls between 11 and 45 wherever.

If there's an emergency Wade, Smith, or Finch can bowl. We need a side that can make a big score batting first, or if we have to chase, we may need the firepower that Wade and Maxwell bring if England get a huge score.

I disagree Khawaja being out is a blessing in disguise. Regardless of his form, he can still be a match winner (IND series, domestic LO finals) and he is pretty calm under pressure. That said, I rate Handscomb and hopefully he plays against England.

Stoinis out for Marsh would be an upgrade imo. Marsh is underrated in this format but the lack of international match practice isn't ideal. I don't think there's anything to gain by playing Wade over him either.

That would be just as satisfying beating them with some weather assistance.

The melts would be all-time.
Would be fitting

Lets say both of them are ruled out. Then Marsh & Wade are officially added to the squad. This would be my team for the semi;

Finch
Warner
Smith
Handscomb
Wade
Carey
Marsh
Cummins
Starc
Lyon
Behrendorff

I know Maxwell is a great fielder & his bowling has been handy, but he hasn't delivered with the bat in 9 matches now. It's time to make a change & select in form batsmen.

Disagree about Maxxy.

Hasn't done much but is a genuine match winner on his day and you don't drop matcher winners IMO.

Let's not forget he had HE van der dussen missed by Carey on 4.
Could've changed the match.

Mitch Marsh's last ODI was 18 months ago. Hell of a risk bringing him in for a CWC semi.

Coulter-Nile has a decent record vs England - 14 wickets in eight games - bring him in.
