Hard to say because we had some really lean years before I was born, but worst I have seen probably Wayne Schimmelbusch, you know you suck when you get axed after a pre-season flogging of 147 points on the eve of a new season only to have the replacement coach take the team to 3rd spot.

Given their list back then, I'm pretty sure anyone on this forum could have got them to the GF...
Very strong top half dozen or so but Lyon got every bit out of a lot of battlers on that list and brought them all to another level for a short period.

I reckon he squeezed every last drop out what he had and developed a style that got them as far as they did.

I don't have enough time to even contemplate answering this question.

Geez we've had a few crap ones in my time. Where to start
Have we? I always felt appointing the right coach at the right time was always a strong point of ours.

Yeah Rhode sucked but that list was at the crossroads and was forced to play a lot of kids then and Mccartney wasnt made out to be a senior coach but geez he got a lot of them kids playing good contested footy early.

Coincidently I was listening to an in depth interview with Dylan Shiel today. He said he was afraid to make eye contact with him for 6 weeks after he found out he was humping his daughter

Dylan Shiel has a da

Ian Stewart - quit after 3 rounds, forced Robert Walls to go to Fitzroy, sacked Adrian Gallagher, sent Percy Jones to the reserves and clashed with damn near everybody. Had a nervous breakdown and got charged for exposing himself. Quite an interesting stint.

Tough one. I reckon Pagan tops Malthouse as worst coach this century for us. 1980 had clown of a coach in Percy Jones. Took most talented list in league to 4th, gap year in between 3 flags for club. Reckon it would have been 4 premierships in a row, otherwise.

A few years earlier Ian Stewart worst coach. Started season about 1 win from 7 or 8 rounds. He got sacked and we ended up making top five and winning one final as Jezza tried to take over and fix the mess he left of that season. Amazing recovery but also highlighted how shit he was as our coach as following season Jezza took us to the premiership and only 3 very wet days of season did we not kick over 100 points in a game.

So take your pick, Ian Stewart, Denis Pagan or Mick Malthouse and all big names in the game at the time they were coaches.

Adelaide - Robert Shaw

Brisbane - Justin Leppitsch

Carlton - Wayne Brittain

Collingwood - Tony Shaw

Essendon - James Hird

Fremantle - Damian Drum

Geelong - Struggling here?? Any suggestions cats fans?

Gold Coast - N/A

GWS - N/A

Hawthorn - Peter Schwab

Melbourne - Mark Neeld

North - Dean Laidley

Port - Matthew Primus

Richmond - Danny Frawley

St Kilda - Tim Watson

Sydney - Gary Buckenara

West Coast - Ken Judge

Western Bulldogs - Peter Rohde

Additional thought:

- Michael Voss “unlucky” not to be Brisbane’s, he was bad.

- Mark Neeld is the worst of the ones listed above and by a fair margin.

- May be slightly harsh on Laidley at North, I thought he was a decent match day coach, but way too one dimensional and his recruiting and drafting were terrible.

- James Hird gets the nod at Essendon not for anything to do with the ASADA thing. Even without that, Essendon were mostly rubbish under his coaching.

- Royce Hart may have been worse at the bulldogs but as it was before my time and he had a mostly rubbish list, Rohde gets the nod.

hmmm not sure about that

Alot of people would say Wallace for us but hands down I think it's Robert f@#kin Walls. .Killed every bit of momentum built up by Northey ...i nearly had an stroke when they didn't give Northey the extra year he was after on his contract after getting us to a prelim final for the first time in 12 years and instead gave the job to that shit gibbon from Carlton.....Northey goes on to build the foundations of a triple premiership side in Brisbane ( that Mathew's reaped the rewards for) and Walls tenure culminated in a150 something point belting by Adelaide .. Talk about sliding f@#kin doors
