Yeah was excellent in the VFL (Darcy like). But it was about his performance at AFL level, in which he looked completely out of his depth.

Agree fully. Bruton however, would have looked out of his depth playing against Burrom Buttock thirds

Not only that, there were only 12 teams in the comp and only 20 players picked each week. That's only 240 players earning a game each week instead of 18 x 22= 396 players in 2014. Much harder to get a game back then.
Umm, no. If anything you would say that their were 12 Victorian teams back then to now only 10, so easier to get a game back then!

It was still the premier comp in Australia and attracted the cream of footy players from all over the land, so it shouldn't matter how many vic teams there were.

This thread is a bit short sighted since its only gauging players from the last 30 years.. What about before that? Surely we must have had some bad players especially during the mid 60's to late 70's?

Sedat Sir, only one to play more than 25 games compared to the rest nominated as Bruce would say he was special

Just re-read this thread from the beginning...people calling Ryan Hargrave back in 2004?!?!

The reference was to Daniel Hargreaves - although the surname spelling was wrong

I wonder how many keyboard warriors making disparaging comments here could actually play footy at a decent level????

Anyone who gets game time at the top level is a better footballer than 99% of other players who pull on a boot. The ones that don't become regulars at top level have either been very dedicated and have got the best out of their talents or , been restricted by injury or been very talented and not dedicated enough.

I'd suggest to only throw any dirt on the last category.

Has to be James Mulligan. I'm shocked that he even knew how to play football. Massive mistake to elevate him to the senior roster in 2010 when he wasn't even doing decently in the VFL.

Agreed, but I don't think it will stop anyone.

Henceforth, after losses, everybody should refrain from making any criticism whatsoever, of any player, no matter how poorly he may have played, because, most probably, he still did better than anyone here could have? No one's said anything terribly harsh here - no one's said, 'he was absolutely useless! He should be murdered!'

Likewise, the football media shouldn't exist, because a major part of the football media is criticising sub-par performances? Many football journalists never played at the top level either.

Celebrities (including professional sportspeople) receive much praise, and much criticism. If somebody thinks that he won't be able to handle it, he could simply remain in a local league. Now that players get paid so well (I don't think that any AFL listed player has a need to work a second job anymore), I think that they need to be able to handle any criticism, otherwise, get out.

Man .... one of the greatest pleasures of life is unsubstantiated criticism! You should get into it! I have a feeling that you might like it! Certainly, the players named here are 'the worst of the best lot', but, they could all still be the 'worst Bulldog player in history'. I think that everybody is fully aware that anybody who plays any elite sport is an exceptional talent/athlete, and, this thread is totally light hearted, henceforth, I don't see any problem at all with it. If it ever became anything other than light hearted, then I would also suggest that it ought to be closed. It's more of a nostalgic/humorous thread, if anything, and I think that as 'long suffering' Bulldog supporters, we need to have the ability to laugh, otherwise, we'd soon lose our ability to support a team which has had literally no success in most of our lifetimes.

I think a few people might be disillusioned by the few negative posters who post literally everywhere and are never light hearted, and then they see a thread like this and it's the last straw.

Although you're completely correct. I always thought Dogs supporters always had the ability to take the piss out of themselves, because we don't have much to hang our hats on

I'm with you dude, in the 40 years I've been watching the dogs he is the worst to get a senior game...

I agree dude, but it's the other 1% we are discussing in this thread......... :)

I just think the whole concept is very disrespectful..... I played footy with a guy named in a thread similar to this who virtually won a local Under 18 grand final off his own boot who won a contested footy and kicked it from behind the centre circle to the goal square where it was marked and goaled.... Same guy also was a top six player in a best and fairest at an AFL club...... would have played about 80 odd games.

Its a whole lot harder to put in the work to get to that level than it is to rubbish good footballers.
