Re: N Balme ' What are Freo thinking'

I cant remember the order of picks for the 2nd round, but obviously pick 24 is after Wet Toast's 2nd pick. Freo obviously want a pick before Wet Toast so that they can get 1st dibs on the next best WA kid. I assume that pick 20 gets them this. I dont know who the likely kid would be but he is obviously worth fighting for and Freo are obviously convinced that it is very important to get him before Wet Toast do!

Good Luck, time is running out, I personally hope Carlton keep pick 24.

Re: N Balme ' What are Freo thinking'

Only walking away from pick 24? Not a big deal? Are you crazy?

You are willing to let Warnock walk for nothing because you think Carlton are shafting you and all you are doing is shafting yourself in the process. If the deal doesn't go ahead it will be yet another pathetic chapter in Fremantle's trading history.

Or it could be the turning point in their trading history.

Re: N Balme ' What are Freo thinking'

We will take Pick 24, probably at about 1:45pm or some where arouond that. I dont see the problem in holding out as long as possible, I think the theory behind waiting so long may have been if we wait till the last possible moment to accept the Pick 24 then Carlton may panic and cough something up.

Just over 3 hours to go, should be interesting...

First intelligent comment from a freo supporter.

But swanny is a maverick and won't budge.

Re: N Balme ' What are Freo thinking'

Can someone tell me what Carlton have done wrong with this trade ?

Do you believe he is worth more than Pick 24 ? What would you give for him ?

If Freo aren't happy - don't do the trade.

He is worth more than Pick 24 and if carlton would offer something else other than upgrading pick 69 to 53 the deal would have been done by now.

How many players will carlton need to draft?

Re: N Balme ' What are Freo thinking'

I think freo should just take pick 24, as warnock i believe is being very overated.
But if carlton want him so bad, and freo rnt budgin on a top 20 pick for him, y rnt carlton trying to snag melbournes pick 19. Work out a deal for melbourne's pick 19 for carltons pick 24 and a player. Doubt we'd go for it, but hav a crack.

We'll swap our pick 19 for your 24 carlton, if you take nathan carroll off our hands. please

It is actually after Wet Toast's third pick (they have a priority pick). I think that is much of the underlying logic of Freo's stance. If they get a first round pick, they are likely to get the third-best WA kid with it. If they get 24, they get the sixth-best WA kid....

west coast have picks 2, 18, 20, 36 and fremantle have picks 3, 21, 37

Re: N Balme ' What are Freo thinking'

Because they won't just roll over and accept a poor deal from you cheats?

Freo are doing the right thing.

Selection #24 for an untried ruckman in this years draft is a good deal. But hey, if they want to lose him for nothing, that's there perogative.

since the rest of the 14 teams aren't going to be looking at drafting a WA kid?

Why does it have to be a WA kid? Why not just draft the best player available?

Judd aside, we have no problem retaining interstate players.

The kid is going to be special. Looks good already. Pfft this untried shit.

I hope they trade him to richmond.

Re: N Balme ' What are Freo thinking'

I imagine that if Freo is being so hard about it, they think they can get that sort of deal somewhere else ( if only Warnock would go to that club ) and/or have a reasonable belief that Carlton can get their hands on such a pick.

Or more than likely they are delusional!

Re: N Balme ' What are Freo thinking'

I thin Carlton may have erred on this trade by showing their cards too early. This year Freo were probably keen to look like they were not going to get pushed around, and then Carlton comes along and says we'll give you pick 24 for Warnock. Maybe we should have started at player + 40 and pushed that all week and then dropped down to pick 24. Whether it was a reasonable offer or not Freo probably never intended to accept straight away. Rather they probably wanted to dictate terms for a bit.

Re: N Balme ' What are Freo thinking'

Waste of time bickering, just wait a few hours till trade week is over. Honestly nothing has really happen this week, it has just been a staring contest. At this rate 5 trades in total will be made if lucky.

We actually took a similar pick when we traded Nick davis to the Swams. We wanted a higher one, but so be it.

I personally hope Freo stay strong and send him to the PSD.

carlton don't appear to have attempted to increase their offer. ie. throw in a player etc.

PSD doesn't work for you when you don't finish last or near the bottom. What goes around comes around.

Just think, Nick Stevens. I didn't hurt Port in the end did it, when they could have had pick 18 and Heath Scotland.

17 - Melbourne
18 - West Coast
19 - Melbourne
20 - West Coast
21 - Fremantle
22 - Port
23 - Essendon
24 - Carlton

Freo want to pick up a couple of WA kids before West Coast, so they need 17 or 19 to get one of the players they are looking at.

So Carlton are expected to find a trade with West Coast, who allegedly don't want to deal with us anymore and don't want to give Freo a leg up, and Melbourne who know we want to use the pick to get a ruckman they are hoping will walk to them in the preseason draft.

To pull of that trade, we will have to give way over the odds to secure that pick and then hand over the pick that we also believes is over the odds for Warnock.

Carlton would have to screw themselves twice in order to get Warnock under Freo's terms.

How any trades don,t get done because clubs are stupid in their dealings.
Players are left in Limbo, careers are destroyed , other clubs can't improve their lists all because some clubs want to make a stand.
I bet a lot of Freo supporters although putting up a brave face are very nervous.
Port Adelaide havn't gained ant respect or improved conditions for trade over their stance on Nick stevens and neither will Freo in the wash up.

Melbourne gave Freo two top 20 picks for White, and he'd played less matches than Warnock has so far.

Freo should be steadfast and resolute. Under pick 20 or NOTHING!

Bingo. We tried to enter this trade week with clarity. No messing around, this is what we have, this is what we will offer, now you can go and work out the rest of your business armed with that information.

But this is like a Balinese market ... you are expected to start low and barter to a middle point. Carlton didn't do that as they started at their highest price for the sake of expediency, and everyone took it as an opening offer. Maybe next year, we will deliberately offer rubbish and take 5 days to get to our real offer as we are supposed to do.

That would be number 1 draft pick Jeff White or am I thinking of somebody else?

Re: N Balme ' What are Freo thinking'

Or it could be the turning point in their trading history.

They are shooting themselves in the foot if they don't do the deal, losing Warnock for nothing will not be a turning point in their trading history. It will be yet another stupid decision on their part.

They need to put their pride to one side and realise that making a stand here will not erase all their terrible trading decisions in the past. Pick 24 is reasonable and definitely better than nothing

^^^^^^

Is the correct answer.

Until 5 years down the track when Warnock is a star and everybody laughs at Freo because they traded him for JUST pick 24

They're damned if they do, damned if they don't
