Well its official-Compass have been placed in receivership. The league have acted quickly and replaced them with High Mountain Spring Water as major sponsors.Well done for acting so swiftly.

Also, Webby is really unwell and has been in hospital for some time. This news won't give him any joy, but here's hoping he recovers quickly.
Love him or loathe him, he has brought a great deal to our local footy as I'm sure the Board and Silvan will agree.

Yes heard the same about Alan Webb and his illness - things have not been too good for him health wise. Regardless what others think, he has done some great stuff for the league and certainly his involvement has raised the standard both on and off field significantly into a very professional league that we can all be proud of.

All the best to him.

YVMDFL SPONSOR ANNOUNCEMENT

In an era of economic uncertainty, the very best of endeavours can fall through. This is no doubt the case with the Compass Group who has had to retire their sponsorship of the YVMDFL.

Compass has been strong backers & supporters of the YVMDFL & country football. Their support & financial contribution over the past 7 years has been nothing short of exemplary. Not only has Compass supported the YVMDFL with distinction, Compass has also supported many clubs generously.

As a relative newcomer to the YVMDFL, it has been evident to me that Compass has played a pivotal role in the development of our football & netball league. It is not only the financial generosity of Compass, but the vision & business leadership that has elevated the YVMDFL’s fiscal strength & football standing across Victoria. On behalf of the President, Board & member clubs, I wish Mr Allan Webb & the Compass Group the very best of luck in the next phase of their business operation.

Not ever forgetting the past, it is now time to enter the next phase and it is my privilege to announce that the new major sponsor of the YVMDFL is

High Mountain Spring Water.

High Mountain Spring Water has been generous sponsors of Division 2 and now, has upgraded their association as Major Division One & Principal sponsor of the YVMDFL.

The YVMDFL President & Board, congratulate Mr Charles Exton of High Mountain Spring Water for his generous support & commitment to the YVMDFL football & netball community. Mr Exton said he is looking forward to a rewarding & long term affiliation with the YVMDFL and hopes to work closely with the Board to ensure the ongoing well being & strength of the YVMDFL.

Further details relating to the High Mountain Spring Water sponsorship will be advised to all clubs in coming weeks. Clubs should ensure that their fridges are well stocked with High Mountain Spring Water 600ml bottles which are available from the YVMDFL offices.

Im not from Silvan but the league might want to be checking if they have collected the sponsorship money already. Compass has gone into recievership.

What is your evidence for this statement Lemon Chicken? I believe you are getting confused with Compass Resources, a NT mining company, that has recently gone down. Compass Group, based in two Melbourne suburbs, seems to be doing fine.

Care to offer what evidence you had to suggest the company seemed to be doing fine? Or do you work for the league office? :D

How do you define success?? I bet the UTFC aren't satisfied with the results of the past 9 seasons...

How do you define success by the number of Senior Flags? In the last 9 years we have participated in 8 Senior Finals Series,Won 5 Reserves Flags 5 Under 18's Flags and a Netball Flag.We have also established a sound Financial Base and have a strong and ongoing business plan in place. We consider ourselves to be in a strong and healthy situation both on and off the field ,hopefully we will be rewarded with a Senior Flag this year.

Certainly look the goods ATM!
But I hope we don't fall into the trap of defining a successful club just by what happens on the ground. A club is more than the sum of its 1st XVIII (at the risk of offering up a 'motherhood' statement!).
I can see a number of very successful clubs, some of which have not made finals. Just a few instances that come to mind: Powelly - Lazarus couldn't do any better. Olinda - down a division, but have now turned it into a true positive. Wandin - Their netball has been a revelation.
Then, just for good measure....
(insert club name) - (insert what club has achieved OFF the ground in recent time)
and you just might find you have a whole host of winners!
(Not to decry the Upwey Tigers great record off field, tho)

(One of your ressies flags doesn't count - you cheated last year by using a dodgy club ump)

If you're happy with Seville winning just as many 1st Divvy flags as you blokes in the past 14 seasons, than I'm happy too.....;);)

(Mind you, from the couple of times I've seen you guys this season, there's something horribly wrong if you don't win some more - real quick)

Its not just on field that defines the success of a football club, it is also what happens off it.

As mentioned by Monnie Hawk and Upwey Fan what happens off the field is pivotal to the success of a club and its profile within the community. You could also say that both Powelltown and Kinglake are amazingly successful considering what both cclubs have faced in recent times. Powelltown returning to the field and also having great success on the Netball front has been a great story for the league and the efforts of all at Kinglake this year certainly should be applauded.

I think most clubs within our league would have a success story they could tell. As a league our greatest success has been the introduction of netball which has certainly been of great benefit to clubs and improving their image and profile in both the local and wider community.

They looked awesome in the first half on the weekend. Even with Haynes stuck in the goal square and no Moorcroft and even the great Hank Hartman disappearing and reappearing act. Made for a very entertaining day...

I wouldn't get over confident Wraggy/Cagga. Watched the last qtr at Monny too and the cats don't look a spent force yet!

G'Day Moin I have noticed you have been very silent re your comments above - maybe it was a first great man - you were wrong!

Didnt see you last week at the Parker Rd stadium - maybe you will be at the MCG this week to see what will be a cracking game of running football.

(One of your ressies flags doesn't count - you cheated last year by using a dodgy club ump)

I wont argue about success as everyone has their own definition of what it is.
But to say that our ressies flag last year doesn't count because we had a dodgy club umpire is a joke-Our Umpire was Leigh Walters who had umpired Senior First Division in 2007 and has returned to them this year.Leigh is not a member of our club but we took the opportunity to use him after a chance discussion over a beer at a cricket game,we felt privileged because he is certainly one of the better umpires to have graced our football fields -But if you think Leigh is dodgy you had better notify the powers that be in the league umpiring fraternity so that they can remove him immediately-we would hate to have any dodgy umpires in this league

Upwey Fan.
You surprise me! Missed Moin's irony?
"But to say that our ressies flag last year doesn't count because we had a dodgy club umpire is a joke-"
Sure is - and it's on you, Big D!
I'd have thought your 'central European' background would have made you far more cynical than this.
You've been had! Well and truly! Sucked in! Done like a dinner! Score: Moin One, Donny None!

Either way, a Cascade next week, please!

I'm off the Cascade the Club now has ample supplies of Hahn for me to enjoy, which I will share with you-Your shout of course

No it was Upweys unders who had the dodgy umpire and it came back to bite them in the finals. He now umpires the reserves and still knows only two decisions play on or free kick to Upwey. Was seen high fiveing players after he umpired the unders to a two point win last year. Surely a club like Upwey can get somone better as its a bad reflection on the club.

With all that is happening at Silvan, its good to see Haynes hasnt jumped ship like the rest of them when the $$ ran short. There must be some loyalty there after all.

Care to offer what evidence you had to suggest the company seemed to be doing fine? Or do you work for the league office? :D

Congratulation Lemon Chicken, your information proved to be spot on. I did do some research at the time relating to your statement, but all I could come up with was the Compass Resources red-herring. There was no mention of any receivership matters pending about Compass Group. You obviously possessed some "insider" knowledge.
By the way, I have no links to the League or any Club in it. I am simply a humble observer of the game!

The Under 18 umpires are appointed by the League. They are not club umpires

What are you on about ? Unders Umpires are league appointed

You know the umpire in question and what ever his deal is or was, hes from Upwey and does Upwey games and is terrible. Does the twos now and is talking point around the Yarra Valley. Did both unders games against us and single handedly won the game for Upwey and was high fiving players. Im sure Upwey are not unaware of his actions.

I don't know what your smoking but it must be good-let me repeat we have never had club umpires for our unders and in the majority of our ressie games this year have had league appointed umpires.
