It's hard to make one of these teams because you keep forgetting particular players and whatnot.

We still have great depth in the side despite losing Kennedy and Williams, so that makes it even harder.

B: Brown, Gilham, Guerra
HB: Birchall, Schoenmakers, Gibson
C: Ellis, Mitchell, Young
HF: Rioli, Franklin, Burgoyne
F: Dowler, Roughead, Moss
R: Renouf, Hodge, Sewell
I: Taylor, Shiels, Bateman, Ladson

I've probably forgotten about 5 premiership players in here.

Croad ommitted for now.

Guerra Gilham Gibson
Birchall Schoenmakers Hodge

Taylor Sewell Burgoyne
Bateman Mitchell Lewis

Osborne Franklin Brown
Dowler Roughead Rioli

Int: Renouf, Ellis, Ladson, Young*

Emerg: Whitecross, Shiels, Muston

LTI: Bailey, Croad

*Really unsure on his status. Muston or WhiteX replace him in our 22 if his injuries are that bad.

B. Guerra Gilham Gibson
HF. Hodge Schoenmakers Birchall
C. Ellis Lewis Bateman
HF. Rioli Franklin Burgoyne
F. Osborne Roughead Brown

FF: Brown - Roughead - Osborne
Ruc: Taylor - Lewis - Sewell
Int: Renouf - Ladson - Ellis - Shiels

Gilham as third tall, give Schoey the first crack at the big job I reckon.
There'll be an almighty tussle for places on the bench if we can stay healthy...:D

FB: Guerra Gilham Schoenmakers
HB: Birchall Gibson Ladson
C: Young Mitchell Lewis
HF: Bateman Franklin Rioli
FF: Brown Roughead Osborne
R: Renouf Hodge Sewell
INT: Taylor Ellis Burgoyne Dowler

FB: Josh Gibson - Stephen Gilham - Brent Guerra
HB: Michael Coad - Ryan Schoenmakers - Grant Birchall

R: Simon Taylor - Chance Bateman - Brad Sewell
HF: Shaun Burgoyne - Lance Franklin - Cyril Rioli
FF: Michael Osbourne - Jarryd Roughead - Beau Dowler

EMG: Liam Sheils - Lukas Markovic - Mitchel Thorp - Xavier Ellis

Depth: Beau Muston - Gary Moss - Travis Tuck - Brendan Whitecross - Jarryd Morton - Shane Savage - Mathew Suckling - Jordan Lisle - Trent Croad

If we don't land Michael Coad, i'd replace him with Rick Ladson and have Xavier Ellis on interchange.

Also keen to keen if we chase Jesse Smith or Matt Maguire...

Thought I'd have a crack at what our team will look like come RD1 next year:
Code:
FB: Ladson --- Gilham --- Schoenmakers
HB: Birch --- Gibson --- Hodge
C: SB --- Mitch --- Bateman
HF: Young --- Dowler --- Osborne
FF: Rioli --- Buddy --- Roughead
R: Renouf --- Lewis --- Sewell

INTERCHANGE: Taylor, X.Ellis, Shiels, Brown
EMERGENCY: Moss, Whitecross, Thorp

I'll take a punt at our round 2 team, since Buddy and Changa miss round 1 ;)

Brent Guerra, Stephen Gilham, Josh Gibson
Grant Birchall, Ryan Shoenmakers, Rick Ladson
Jordan Lewis, Brad Sewell, Clinton Young
Michael Osbourne, Lance Franklin, Luke Hodge**
Cyril Rioli, Jarryd Roughead, Beau Dowler

Brent Renouf, Xavier Ellis, Simon Taylor, Chance Bateman

Brendan Whitecross, Liam Shiels, Beau Muston

** - Hodge to be playing across half back as a spare man / 7th defender. 5 man forward line to leave room for Franklin, Roughead and Dowler to move around in :thumbsu:

I am out of the country at the moment and a bit out of the loop. What is the latest on Clinton Young. He didnt play much at all last year, and I read on one of the earlier posts that he might not play for the first half of next season also. What is up with him.....

I think its generally fairly obvious. Give or take a couple. This is assuming Young is fit and Croad isnt.

Guerra, Gilham, Gibson
Hodge, Shoenmakers, Birchall

Bateman, Mitchell, Young
Taylor, Sewell, Lewis

Rioli, Franklin, Burgoyne
Osborne, Roughead, Dowler

Renouf, Ellis, Brown, Ladson

Depth has been thoroughly covered in this thread.

There's already a few other threads on this.

I wonder if Gibson being at the club will allow Hodge to be 'released' into the midfield/forward. Hopefully Schoey or Dowler (or someone!) takes the next step in their development and becomes a capable key-backman.

What will happen when we snare Joel Macdonald in the Pre Season draft after getting him to agree to Financial terms with our club?

Shoey looks the more likely of the 2.
I would love to see Hodge play in the middle, and push forward.
As one of our other threads have suggested, we need our mids to kick more goals. Hodge pushing forward would be a good start to achieving that.

Have we been talking with him LMR?

We certainly have Shepp.

Very keen on him are our boys.

Fingers crossed. I say if he nominates for the National draft some side will use a pick before ours in the late 30's on him.

Have him nominate in the pre season for uncontracted plalyers draft with a hefty price tag on his head and we are an outside shot.:thumbsu:

interesting - who would miss out in the backline if we did get him? would be a tough call. gilham is a sure thing at full back. schoey is looming as our CHB for the next 10 years. birchall, ladson, gibson, guerra and brown to cover the other 4 spots down back too. add mcdonald in there and thats two of the above-mentioned missing out.

with that in mind - im not convinced that we will get him and i reckon he will go before pick 9 in PSD.

i must say - with all the lineups listed on this thread, its a lethal side for next year. and if croad can get up (IF) then that will be even better. its gonna be tough to get into the starting 22 next year

How do you figure?

when he hasnt been injured, he has played full back in croads absence and done it pretty well.:thumbsu: he certainly isnt the worse. and with croad no guarantee to come back :(, gilham and schoey seem to be the ones identified to hold down the KP in the backline. gibson as well can play KP if needed.

judging also by BF posters, most have gilham at full back as well.

thats how i figure :)

While he isn't the worst we had last year, I don't think that necessarily means he'll be the best we have next year. For mine Gibson would be better at CHB the Gilham, and Schoenmakers in his end of 09 form + a pre-season is a no brainer as a better option for FB in 2010.

I think it's time we try the FishPig as the third tall, as I reckon he's more comfortable moving the ball out than having it come in on top of him anyway as it is.
It would be great to see how well he reads the play and makes the decision to leave his man and help out. He seems like he'd be smart in that way...
