Rossie Lyon already topping up Freo's list with overpaid hacks ?

No way should the Saints have matched Freo's ridiculous offer of 300 K a year ??

If Freo wanted a defender, they should have gone after Carlton's Paul Bower, he would have been cheaper and less embarrassing then 'Hack' Dawson.

Massive win fo Saints here, clear cap room and space on the list.

Zac Dawson cops a lot of flack and I suspect it goes back to that fateful day he played on Rocca.

But you look at his record over the past 3 - 4 years, he rarely has goals kicked on him, he rarely coughs up the ball, he is a pretty good decision maker and whenever he is flung forward he usually bags a goal.

He is not the most skilled player by a long way but he is a KPD who can do a job and StKilda will miss that.

lol, Harves made a couple of ordinary drafting decisions during his tenure at Freo, Lyon may have caught the same bug

& $300k? hardly seems much over the odds for a Dawson:confused:

The only thing that would make this funnier would be if zac and rossy won a flag at freo..

In all seriousness I think most people expected him to be moved on by pelchen (again) didn't think?

The average AFL wage is about $250,000, right?

Take out the 10-15% of everyone's list who is on draft or rookie contract.

Then consider Zac is a best-22 player as of his last game.

$300,000-$350,000 isn't that much overs. St Kilda just cannot afford it.

If you are going to sacrifice a player due to salary cap issues then you may as well sacrifice either an older player as Collingwood has done, or a cancer as StKilda has done.

Good move by the Saints. Dawson isnt the worst player to pull on a pair of boots but he's a destabilising influence off the field and its a good decision to get rid of him.

Freo must have money to burn in their salary cap, they also made a massive offer to Mitch Clark.

Who else would be on big bikkies at Freo, aside from Pavlich and Sandilands ?

Well given that Mitch Clark didn't accept their offer, they still have that money to play with.

You should really stop talking sense a lot of these posters won't understand.

You will find the average wage for a player would be around the 300k mark if they are in their teams top 25 players roughly. Obviously new draftee's are on around the 60-70k mark, and have game bonuses on top like a lot of the players. The $300k may be have special clauses that are never disclosed, such as "must play x number of games" or "must place in position x or below in club champion voting".

All these types of things affect the magical figure the media quote, so going after Dawson who is a 25yr old defender is not a bad idea for freo, they have Silvangi and a few others coming along, but lost Tarrant and Grover is on his last legs etc, and Dawson has proven to be a decent afl player since being at St Kilda.

$300 just seems like a lot for someone who's worth would be zero if they hadn't been talked into nominating for the draft again.

3 clubs in his career so far is quite the effort.

I think he'll end up with either Ross or Sos.

Mundy just signed, probably on 'big bikkies'

Fyfe just signed, hopefully on lower than his eventual net worth

Hayden and Schammer just retired (both would've been on some decent coin)

Asking for way too much for a player of his ability.

Just having a look over St Kilda's list, it seems like they sort of did need him though. The only sort of tall guy they have to hold down a KPD position, is Tom Simpkin. He is only 191cm tall, as is Sam Fisher. Sam Gilbert is their next best bet (194cm).
They don't really have anyone to hold the really big key forwards, which is worrying. Unless they turn Daniel Archer into a KPD...

He would walk into the current Freo side and make our defence better, come at low cost through the draft/PSD and really wouldn't cost that much salary wise.

Don't see the big issue. The reason why a lot of 2nd and 3rd rate players (in the eyes of supporters at least) get paid big money is because of the lower bound on the salary cap. That 92.5% of ~$6-7 million has to go somewhere.
