Feels like one of recruitments where we say he will play midfield to get him across, he spend some of preseason training it and then come rd1, he's the Webster replacement and never plays anywhere else.
I read recently that Kane Farrell from Port is a free agent and is shopping around. I know he’s 26 years old and has a beauty left foot on him. Would he be more of a like for like replacement for Webster ?

Nothing like Webster except the fact they're both left-footed

Can't defend or be accountable for a man. More a replacement for Nas

Nevertheless, was reported last week that he will re-sign

People knocking Bergman sound like the Poos and Wee fans knocking Battle 12 months ago.

Pay attention to the port fan opinions of him. Highly rates.
In fairness they always over rate their players and we always end up paying premium for them

How is his footy going this year?
No one wants the guy at their club. When they try to bring him in the women's team threaten to walk out, explain to the club why and then the club realises its not a good move and can the idea.

I don't see any club picking him up.

Nas won't leave for $$$. He'll get big offers from SA but the decision will be around whether he wants to live in Adelaide or Melb. Obviously his agent will push for the best deal, but I can't see it being the deciding factor.

However, we will get crucified in the media if he leaves but we overpay to bring someone in, regardless of what the truth actually is.

Who's knocking him?

I've said plenty of times on this forum that I rate him. Very good footballer.

I don't think he's got near as much talent as NWM though, I think that's been proven over the last 12 months.

If NWM was to leave I'd be asking for a single figure draft pick on it's own. Would you be happy to give that up for Bergman?

I'd have thought we'd be looking at more than a single figure draft pick if Wang leaves.

Would I pay a top 5 pick?

No.

But I don’t think that’s the cost either.

If he or wang decide they are leaving. It will unfortunately for both clubs be best offer available.

There isn’t much clubs can do. Especially if the club they are going to sit towards the bottom of the ladder.

Nah I’m talking about his value though, not suggesting we will get true fair value for him.

Would you be happy if it ended up being a straight swap of NAS and Bergman then?

I haven’t really seen him play but chasing Port’s HBFs previously hasn’t been good for us.

All those years ago when we linked to Cam O’Shea, Port fans would talk him up only for him to get delisted a few years later. Also, last season with Riley Bonner. Frustrating player to watch to say the least.

Sounds like Bergman is on a different level to those guys but just saying haha

In fairness they always over rate their players and we always end up paying premium for them
In fairness. If you are using seagulls like O’Shea and Bonner then you haven’t seen much of Bergman to be making that comment.

I’ll go as far as saying that on our current list. In our best 22. We don’t have a player in the mould of Bergman.

And I think we have some athletic animals on our list. He is built differently.

I rate him highly and i think a number of you will change your tunes between now and the end of the season - in the same vein how this board laughed at the TDk links 2 years ago. But now want him.

No.

But I think it would take some sting away.

Again, that’s not the situation.

Would you trade a first round pick for Bergman and a 6 year contract.

Yes I would.

You suggested that was that Port fans rate him equal NWM, which I didn’t agree with.

That completely depends on where the first round pick lies. If it was last year then no. I wouldn’t be happy giving up pick 7 for him.

If we somehow ended up with a later first round pick then yes and I’d be happy to offer him a long term deal, yes.

I’ve been on the Bergman train for years on here, I rate him. But don’t get caught up in the Port hysteria. He’s not the player that completely changes your team.

That’s pretty high praise, maybe a straight swap for Nas isn’t too far off then.

Marshall played 103 of 126 minutes in Saturday. All in the ruck.

Keeler played 108/126. But the 20 minutes he rucked in the second half we got obliterated.

I’m giving TDK those 108 minutes but im also giving him10/15 minutes of Marshall’s ruck minutes and let’s save Rowan 10/15 a game up forward.
That was one game and was more to do with Keeler basically being a liability in the forward line and the ruck once he started cramping. Another couple of preseasons for him and that won’t be the case, I think it could actually be a major strength if Keeler does turn into what we think he will. I’d rather that for a quarter of the price then spend 1.7 million to turn Marshall and TDK into average players.

I’d love a big physical ruckman like TDK but not at that price and not when we’ve already got a ruckman.

It’s a fact. It’s on their board in his thread how highly they rate him.

Which player completely changes our team? Those players hardly ever change clubs.

But Bergman is in that Weddle ilk of defensive utility - who has shown glimpses of midfield ability.

We don’t have that on our list and it would be a pretty unique option to have when the likes of Cripps Danger Petracca rest forward or to run around after Jeremy Cameron When he plays wing.

TDK is an athletic beast and shown he is a handy ruck forward.

Marshall is 30 this year. Whatever you are hoping for, the end is nearer for Rowan and you need to have your proven building block in place.

It also makes sense from the perspective of protecting and developing Dodson.

It’s a fact that every club supporters rate their own and under rate opposition players. Port fans are the worst for this.

He’s a very good defender. I wouldn’t have him up there with the likes of Weddle though, who I think will end up giving a lot more offensively. Weddle is a lot younger and will go past Bergman fairly fast.

I’ve seen very little glimpses of this midfield ability. As I said, looked very ordinary in there in round one and they gave up on that idea pretty quickly, even with Butters out.

We’d be getting a very good player with Bergman. A mid size defender that rarely loses one on one, great speed and athleticism and a booming kick. And as you say can play on the likes of Petracca etc.

He’s not someone I’d be willing to give up a top 10 pick for though. That just sounds crazy to me.

The clubs talent ID has been very good the last few years. They wanted Bergman before this rise.

I’ll back them here.

The club have been good at identifying talent no doubt (although we were talking about how highly the fans rate him). That doesn’t mean you give up a top ten pick for any player on their list though.

I don’t want this to turn into a Bergman bash because I do rate him very highly. But there’s certain players you give up single digit draft picks for and he’s not one of them in my opinion.

Also worth noting that Sam Edmund this morning said more midfield minutes wasn’t playing any role in a possible move.
