Hoping to get some advice here.

I hold an interstate membership (ACT/NSW). Some family (non members, grrr) and I decided we'd get to together to see the Pies flatten the Suns at the MCG at Rnd 7. There are 7 of us total.

I logged onto ticketek at maybe 2.02pm, just minutes after the tickets opened. My membership code was accepted but I couldn't get 7 tickets. In fact, I could only get 1 (mine - no member's guests). There's no phone number for ticketek. By the time I got back to working it out after doing some work maybe 1 hr later the allocation was exhausted.

So a few simple questions:
- are all tickets exhausted, actually? We're playing the Suns?! Surely the G isn't sold out. Is it a COVID seat spacing thing?

- or is it because I hold a basic membership that I couldn't get members guests (like, even a couple?)

- would it make a difference if I tried to upgrade my membership now? Suns might be too late, but maybe I could get the crew together for a later game? Or, does everyone need a membership? (Side note the comments space you put the members barcode in is weird).

- would it be worth chancing it and still coming down from the ACT for GA tix on the day?

Completely and utterly confused about how to get tix to the footy.

Any advice would be incredible.

Thanks

Saw two new threads pop up and didn’t want to post on them because it might seem a bit mean of me but I’ll say it here.
One thread was about us getting a key forward and the other about us being in a rebuild. No sh*t Sherlock yes we all have our opinions about the club but I had to scratch my head and wonder if these posters have just realised these things and before anyone says anything yes I do realise that the rebuild thread was pointing out to others that we’re in a rebuild. Which is even more head scratching meaning there’s a lot of people who don’t think we’re in a rebuild.
Anyway I hope the threads go well while I continue to scratch my head.

I'd question whether we have really entered a rebuild - We've had less personnel change to our team since 2019 than most other teams in the comp. Our core players are still basically the same players who were our core players in 2019. When you look at it, all we've done in terms of a rebuild is to replace a few older battlers with some youngsters - which all teams do.

Seeing the Rising Star award mentioned in the Reef McInnes thread I was inspired to throw this in here, in the hope that someone finds it interesting!

In 2022 we have the very low tally of 6 players with a nomination on our books, so there's room for a few more! McInnes, Ginnivan, Henry and Macrae could all be in with a chance this year. Adelaide and North Melbourne have the next lowest number of nominees on their list with 9, while Sydney has a whopping 18. Those figures include players who received nominations at another club (we don't have anyone in that category). Only Collingwood and Adelaide don't have any imported nominated players on their list, while two players who received nominations as Collingwood players are now with other clubs:

9 listed players have received two nominations, but they are only counted once in the above figures.

So, putting your arms out, basically appealing the decision, is worthy of a 50 metre penalty?
The stand rule, the weekly changing of the htb rule and now this?
Its no wonder I haven’t watched a full AFL game this year.
And hell has frozen over because I FULLY AGREED with Robbo tonight that the AFL over the past few years have stripped out the personalities, the passion of the game. 36 robots on the field is what they want and they are close to getting that.
On the other side of watching live sport, thoroughly enjoying the NRL….

i agree. We're at the managing retirement stage....

Can anyone please tell me of other almost miraculous comebacks? This is a stupid tweet in my opinion. I just think our media team is a bit odd this season.

Big chat on SEN about the umps today. First Dwaye says they're not professional and says it's only a part time job, then says they're on 100k a year.

Also a hell of a lot of people ringing in to complain about the umps. But interestingly enough none of them seemed to be Melbourne supporters.

i've just been listening to the umpire debate on SEN. The attempts to improve the number of umpires at grassroots level will only be marginally improved by anything the players do at AFL level.

The thing that will encourage more umpires will be to muzzle the crowds at all levels. I watched the carlton game or the end of it - and I was amazed that the crowd was booing at the end ...after their team had won. Evidently they were blaming the umpires for something......after they won the frigging game.

And then you get into the gameday thread on this forum and there will be a string of people complaining about the umpires ....thats all they do. Evidently their parents train them when they're young to whinge.

And its the abuse that umpires get at the local level that is making people turn away from umpiring. You can make good money doing it and it should be relatively enjoyable.....but I would never umpire a game because of the idiots over the fence. So make the rules as extreme as you like at the higher level, it wont change a thing at local footy

I was reading a thread on the main board about the new rules regarding dissent, and there were a couple of people who umpire amateur and youth footy commenting. They thought it was a crock of shit.

But, importantly, they did say that the recent crackdown on umpire abuse had been really helpful for them over the last two years. I think, in the AFL's classic way, it saw progress and thought one more change would be the cherry on top. Only for that progress to be the source of huge problems, and nearly undo all the prior good work.

if the players were abusing umpires, they should have given 50 metres and/or reported. That is a direct relationship. You dont help local umpires by implementing dissent rules at the higher level. Go to local footy and listen to the crowds about they go on about the umpiring and how violent it is....you even see a bit of it in junior footy if the parents go mongrel.

How does the AFL justify a fine to Cotchin for a deliberate kick on Walker yet De Goey gets a week for a footy action?

It does my head in 🤯
Very reminiscent of a certain grand final Cotchin absolutely should have been suspended for. He’s as grubby as they come

A 3 goal loss. After being well behind all day.
Ridiculous tweet.
Smacks of “everyone wins a medal” mentality.
No wonder our club is the also rans leader of the league.

Ah yes, I’m sure the person in their 20s who runs the socials of our teams has really led to our numerous grand final losses these past two decades

How the hell do Cochin and Hawkins get away with it week in and week out. The match review panel is a joke. The tribunal is a joke. The AFL is a joke.
Watch what happens if a pie commits the same offences. Suspensions and fines all over the place.
There is now two levels of judiciary and two levels of umpiring in the AFL. If it continues, the premiership will not be won by the best team. It will be won by the most favored team.

the cochin decision is a curious one. Over a century of tradition that has made kicking more than just a suspension, it was painted as a stain on a player's reputation.....something that a player never did. It was a tradition that went right down to junior footy.

And now we have the AFL - so concerned about the role model aspects of the highest league - effectively telling kids that kicking is a minor thing.

I dont understand it, especially in light of an environment where players are being held accountable - and suspended - for actions that they didnt intend to do. And here we have cochin kicking out on purpose and getting a fine. An offence where suspension is an actual deterrent. There is no logic to it.

You are right about kicking and what players thought of it even juniors, I remember the 1st game Tony Francis played for the Pies and got a 6 wk lay off for it which is fair enough for kicking another bloke but I remember something he said "I don,t want to be remembered as a bloke who kicked another player" which is correct as it is a heinous offence.

The game is bordering on farcical with the dissent and protected area rule making the game a comedy routine and inexplicable to a newcomer. Why did that player with the ball just get a 50 metre advantage? Oh, an opposition player 1. Ran within five metres of him as he was following his opponent and even though the player with the ball didn't even know he was there and was not infringed or held up in any way he gets 50m closer to goal. 2. The player on the mark twitched his nose and one arm moved slightly to the right after the umpire screamed STAND! 3. The player shrugged his shoulders in bewilderment and confusion when the free kick was awarded.

Expect a deep breath of exasperation or eye roll to become automatic 50m penalties and possibly reportable next year.
Surely the protected area has to be reviewed? If a player's action impedes or prevents the player with the ball from playing on or kicking it then he gets pinged, otherwise let the game flow.

When will these utter morons leave the game alone?

Umpire disrespect should be stamped out. It's very simple. A gesture directed at the umpire (eg. B.Ts raised clenched fist) or verbal abuse directed at the ump should be punished and possibly reported. Shoulder shrugs and arms raised are not disrespectful. The players are engaging in a fierce physical contest and should be allowed to express a slight sense of frustration if penalized without being punished.

I cannot stomach the way our game can be changed on a whim every season by a group of individuals who hold their post for a year or two, do their damage and then move on. To see the smug, round face of Brad Scott doubling down and insisting there should have been more 50m penalties for dissent was vomit worthy. The disingenuous hypocrite then sidestepped the issue of coaches' dissent by suggesting it was targeting the players ( a bold faced lie much of the time). Is he suggesting it's okay for coaches to abuse and disrespect their players? His brother throws his arms back and punches the desk ten times a game in response to umpiring decisions.

Whatever happened to common sense?

Domie, I too am worried that wokes are taking over our game. We used to be men.

Seriously, the umpire issue is more than just threatening behaviour. The AFL doesnt want players questioning umpiring decisions and that is what the player is doing when they raise their arms and flap them about ......see AFL360 last night.

The problem, however, is only at the lower levels of footy. I've seen teenage kids umpire men's matches at suburban level and it takes a strong kid to put up with large men waving their arms at them.

Looks like you think my prediction about eye rolls being penalised will be a definite starter in 2023. That is definitely a sign of dissent and a questioning of the validity of the umpire's decision.
