List clean out is urgently needed

I looked at Melbourne tonight and despite being well in front at 3 quarter time they still ran hard, cracked in, tackled and went for blood until the final siren. They weren't prepared to concede anything. Foot to the throat stuff

We haven't had that kind of killer instinct since 2005/2006

I have said it before and I will say it again: we can't expect a tough, hard football team without a tough hard coach

It begins and ends with Simpson

Agreed a deep list cut is required. Those saying we shouldnt because of the poor past outcomes of Nth melb and Melbourne are being ridiculous. Yes you will remain a poor team when you draft Trengove and Scully with your high picks however when you draft Oliver and Petracca things turn around pretty quick.

Nth have been pathetic for a while now due to poor drafting when still 'competing', players like Garner, Durdin and McKay with 1st round picks. Then when they did rebuild they had no youth to turn to. They have remained this in this state by continuing with poor drafting LDU etc. Maybe things will turn now with Horne-Francis. Our scenario is very reminiscent of this unfortunately.

Just nuke the planet from orbit, hopefully when evolution makes its way around again on another rock in a few million years and there's another variation of the Eagles - some sort of glittery, scaled & talloned flying animal based on the south west of a land mass - they'll hopefully get the coach and list mix right.

Then rinse and repeat every several million parsecs.

A parsec is a measurement of distance, not time.

Duh.

Exactly - the distance to the next planet with the same geographical requirements.

Bet you argue over who shot first too, poindexter.

Why isn't any of this in the actual List Management thread FFS?

Can't have 5 different sack Simmo threads and 3 different List Cleanout threads going at once, i can't keep up gaiz.
Election time is coming up, you might need to get a campaign together for mod duties to sort this out

Hypothetically, Darling is so obviously the best trade candidate we have it's not even funny.

Yes, he's from WA, yes he's an eagles great, yes he has his family here....

However he's a bit of a whipping boy for Eagles fans so i wouldn't begrudge him for leaving. He's still got 2-3 years of good footy ahead of him... AND, depending on what we'd get back, it could be the right thing for him to do for the club considering we're about to enter a rebuild so the picks would help, whilst he can join a side with a talented list who're looking to play finals and might give him another shot at a flag to wrap up his career.

One of those win win situations.

Fold Coast for a few years. Bombers would be another goodie. GWS perhaps. Providing these clubs actually want him of course.

What's the alternative? He stays here, get abused by fans, both his own and other teams. The club gets worse and worse over the next couple of seasons, then he's entering the twilight of his career.

1: Top player sponsorship support.
2: Gaff

It's because i'm a good sponsor and have is back is why i'm bringing it up. I legit think Darling leaving WA and chasing a flag elsewhere would be the best thing for him and the feral eagles fans that will forever blame him for his vaccination status. Just go on Facebook, bloke cops it left right and centre.

Boat has set sail long ago for Gaff. I think the jig is up on that little kent. Nobody would cough up anything other than a mid second rounder these days.

Bailey Williams, is about the only other player who "might" interest someone. Petrucelle.... Rintoul perhaps

Maybe the third option could be he decides to play some good football for us again? You know, be a leader and help the forward line’s transition out of the JK era and into the Allen one?

That's outrageous.

I think he's got the demons now. Bit of weight on his shoulders and obviously a lot of public scrutiny. He's always been a confidence player, but right now he's fighting a losing battle. Wonder what was going through his head at 3QT in the Sydney game.

If anything there's just going to be even MORE pressure on him to perform as the senior forward once Kennedy retires. I'm borderline expecting him to wet his pants on the field at some point.

What do you honestly think Darling is gonna get beyond a mid second rounder?

Dangle Darling in front of the dogs and hope we can straight swap for English.

Trade pick 3/4/5 for two picks in the 10-15 range, combine our two second rounders for a pick in that range too.

Hit the draft with 10, 14, 17 etc
we conned then with McDougall they would not be dumb enough to go for this surely

Clean out is a bit emotional. But the list certainly needs a rebuild.
Players at about the 30year mark will niot be part fo our next premiership if they only have value if they support development and a changing structure. Gov and Kelly are the only two that stand out as of value. JD as a third tall if he is ever fit again.

We then have a great list of players with 2-5 years experience who just are not good enough to be part of the next premiership (GF or Girl Friend for those that live in a cubby house). These players need to go at the ned of this year. Every midseason draft, full dtraft and trade has to target players that add to our new game plan and fill needd gaps. For that we need very effective talent identification and management (oh and a well communicated game plan) - which we dont have so getting that right must be a now step.

I use the term management in a broader sense that includes list management, club management and leadership and coaching in an integrated matter.

As a side example of where we fail as managers, Erasmus - spell it how you like - but I know from experience that if he was a potential candidate for Sydney they would have had senior people visit is home and have it well sorted months prior to teh required date. Thats proactive management.

Some on here see the trees (excuses and short term stuff) and not the forrest. Unfortunately the main culprit is the Club. Our current problem is 2-3 years old and growing.

Perhaps to put it another way - we need the strategy now to build around:
