The major downside to losing those two is that they have been important insofar as starting scoring chains from turnovers. If we lose the centre clearance heavily, we're relying on that to score. Chapman for mine has been the better distributor of the two, but I felt Young has been building, either way, they're both better than Wilson and Clark. Where they'll be missed more arguably is in their intercept marking.

However... as some have quite rightly pointed out, this game is about the clearances. It's almost exclusively Carlton's route to goal, cut it off and they've got to come up with something new. Also, whislt Wilson and Clark aren't as good, they aren't ****ing useless. Wilson actually has a pretty deft kick when required, and we'll probably see a lot more run'n'gun with him, Clark and Walker all playing. Walker's delivery has also been sublime at times, so whilst not ideal, I don't think It's the death knell that others seem to.

Brodie and Serong need huge games though, got to get first hands on that pill and then distribute effectively to Brayshaw and Mundy.

Yeah, they were poor that day I think, well, they didnt look their best anyway. Just saying we play our best footy when they play well, I think we need to play somewhere near our best footy to win this game

Young and Chapman both had clangers that directly led to goals against Essendon.
They are both fantastic but not irreplaceable.
Logue and Wilson are not WAFL standard replacements. Both have been game changers.
Also will try their hearts out to show they are still best 22.

We’re not getting rolled.

Freo will go 1v1 to prevent Carltons fast start which has set up its wins this year. Won’t be an exciting half.

Freo will get to work in the 2nd half and come storming home to grab the four points.

Tabs to kick another bag 💪
Brayshaw will rise to the challenge 💰
Brodie gets the tag 😢
Clark to stand up (finally) 🙌
Acres flattens Cerra 👊
Mundy goes forward & kicks a couple 🤤

Bring on Saturday night
I love your enthusiasm and I’m confident we can do this

People that say we have enough depth to cover Chapman and Young don't understand the roles they play. They just don't get it

Conversely, people who don't understand the game will be and is generally won in the midfield just 'don't get it' ... lol, either.

Did you not watch the first half against Essendon when Young and Chapman were put under extreme pressure while the Essendon mids were winning their share of the ball. Young and Chapman are fine footballers, their loss is not ideal but this is where a coach steps up to the plate to refine tactics with the available (Wilson/Hughes - Aish to backline) cattle.

Rumour on Triple M that we have a few more outs coming.....hopefully it's bullshit
Ryan still waiting on a pcr test before being cleared. Am assuming it's the same for freddy. Likely a lot more of the wafl guys have it too

The beauty of having a solid system in place is the ability to minimise the impact of individual's availability.

While Young and Chapman undeniably bring so much to the side (and to the system), with an effective framework to provide a reliable method, it can be much easier for the coaches to slide the pieces around to find a winning formula.

We can only call on top up players if we have less than 28 players available.

We started with 42. Minus retired Valente, minus injured Fyfe, Johnson, Benning, Western = 37 available players.

Minus the 5 in H&S = 32. Meaning we need to lose 5 more players to covid to access a top up player.

Longmuir has rarely pulled the 1v1 play. That would be a plan B and is my one critisism remaining of his coaching. He is very slow to adjust when the game plan isn’t working or not being executed. 1v1 is a good way to stop opposition momentum, get hold of the ball a kill the game for a period to reset.
I hope we do start like that and physically intimidate them, especially Cerra.

In the system we trust.

Looks like you subtracted Johnson twice as he's one of the players isolating...

Covid Shmovid.
The only thing that’s going to spread is the media hammering of teams we just played.
Eagles lost to us = under the pump
GWS lost to us = Questions on Cameron intensify
Bombers lost to us = media hammering

When Carlton get smashed expect a fair bit of ‘Have we overrated Carlton’ type pieces to flood the market.

I don’t know. I think we split the defenders into 2 groups now. The tall backs who play more as pure defense- Pearce, Cox, Ryan, Logue & the running half backs - Chappy, Young, Walker.
So Logue would probably only come in for 1 of the first group while Wilson would be next in line for the second group.

I know you are grouping these guys by the way they play, but In reality Chapman (193cm) and Young (189) are both way taller than Ryan (186)…

Weren't some people calling on Logue to replace Walker due to match ups this week anyway?

As I see it, all this does is brings Logue in and instead of dropping Walker, challenges him to step up and fill the role of one of Chapman/Young.

I'm also at ease with Wilson coming in, he's done it before and can do it pretty well

Ya know, the upside to our players all coming down with COVID or even just isolating one or two players each week, is we're kind of getting some forced rests into players without devastating the best 22 too much. Schultzy just got a week off. I like to think that he's used that week to rejuvinate any lingering niggles, and he might come back just that bit fresher and nippier. Chapman & Youngs turn this week. There'll be more. So long as we don't lose 4-6 players in any one week, and we can still win games like this weeks game against Carlton, these forced outs, one by one, could yet prove to be a blessing in disguise. Time will tell.
I would t wish covid on anyone. The recovery time can be longer than a week. Carlton have lost 7 players to covid so far and all have returned lower than average numbers for 1-2 weeks after due to fatigue and match fitness.

Ryan Pearce Logue
Walker Cox Aish
Clark Mundy Tucker
Erasmus Lobb Frederick
Schultz Taberner Switkowski

Darcy Brayshaw Brodie

Serong Acres Colyer Walters

We are fine.

The Cerras mum/girlfriend giving him permission to come to WA jokes on Twitter are getting a bit stale in my view.
I have no issues with Cerra and he would probably be one of the last ex freo player in the league I’d boo.
Some people seem to think he’s an absolute traitor of the highest order. Wrongly in my opinion.
