AFL Player #16: Archie Perkins - Re-signed for two more years - 3/6

Felt like he had zero disposals the entire day. Coaches need to be more proactive and get him more involved in the game.
Maybe ask the opposition to not play as tight on him ?
He did get some midfield time and he did get some wing time. He is finding out what it is like to be a dangerous player that can kick goals.
Opposition takes more notice and do not give him as much leeway.

Everyone who watched the tapes before being drafted should know he has games like this, on the big stage under 17 all stars he got 5 possessions in the under age game, also played directly on Gulden in another game and Gulden BOG with 27 possessions and 2 goals while Perkins didn’t even try and tackle his opponent on the wing. Perkins has plenty of ability but gets lost in reading the play and doesn’t apply any pressure. Same thing is still happening at AFL level.
We all know his ability but needs to learn the hardest part of the game, reading the play.

It's Mark Johnson's rig.

Isn't that Hird in the background?

Jumper is a 150th anniversary year from the country game, which means it's from Round 1 this year against Geelong...

Answers my question 🤣. Cheers Lore. Seriously didn't think he had that much size on him.

Play him in the Heeney role, he does it well, recruit mids for the midfield role, we need him forward. Develop him forward where he plays his best footy so he doesn't become another wasted talent at EFC. I remember when they all thought McPhee would become a gun mid but that didn't work whatsoever, There was a game when McPhee played on Simpson from North Melbourne and I have never seen a player get burnt like McPhee that day. Flankers to mids.

Was at 1 centre bounce this game and we won it. Can't believe he's not getting more of a go there.

We also need to find a way to get the ball in his hand between the arcs more often. There was at least three occasions where he broke the game open with long 45 degree kicks. Get him up towards the high teens possessions wise and we'll be a 2/3 goal better side.

Correlation isn't causation.

Yes he should definitely be getting more time through the middle, but clearances are not an issue atm.

He is currently suffering the effects of learning how to deal with some extra attention and playing in a side devoid of confidence. It must be pretty hard for him to be learning the defensive side of things while we are really struggling as he is going to make mistakes with his defense and lets face it one of our biggest issues is one way traffic out of the forward half. I am not overly worried. Not even worried if he does not end up a midfielder. He has the tools to be a 40 goal medium marking forward who can play wing as well.

Every time I watch him play I’m shocked he only gets the 10 odd touches. Feels way more involved then that. Also 1 disposal from him is worth about 5 of some of our other ball users
I haven't fact checked this but someone said on the radio the other day "Merret, Mcgrath, Parish and Shiel averaged 247 posession between them in the last 2 matches and have scored 1 point between them."

And I would hate to be a forward in our team at them moment with the way we are moving the ball up the ground

Parish was always good for bobbing up for a goal on occasion. That’s dried up.
