I don’t think we’ve produced a player with this much x-factor/star factor since jimmy hird tbh. Tracking towards evening something really special. Isn’t a junk possession guy, just pure impact like James was.

I remember Robert Shaw (who had him BGS) talking immediately post-draft about how big his heart was….I suspect many just saw the looks and locks and pigeon holed him. He’s as physical as you’ll find in a second year player and he’s a serious competitor.

Best part of this year will be watching him and getting a sense of what he can be. I’m still not sure what his ceiling might be.

He's also got a special athletic burst.

Sometime you think he's out of a contest or in trouble but then his jump or a few steps changes the dynamic completely.

The reason I like him as a half forward or wing is he is a good mark but also has a good step and can turn out of a tackle. Also makes good decisions most of the time. He is strong in a contest but he is not a bull dozer. He can easily kick 40 goals playing half forward / wing . Durham / Martin / Perkins looks a decent wing / half forward combination for me going forward.

Such an unfamiliar athletic profile for an Essendon small. Sure, we’ve had and got plenty of just flat out quick but Perk is a pretty special combination of lateral quick and a thick trunk to hold his space and break tackles.

Can find the sticks too, nice combination

He needs to be played much further up the ground.
Game was mostly played on the wings, and he spent half his time standing on the wrong one, as far from the ball as possible.

It was so consistent it could hardly be accidental, the only time he didn’t do that was when Guelfi was playing that spot, guarding two opponents.

(This is also how the dockers ended up out in space, they were positioned on the outside of our man so when the switch was on they had one opponent between them and he was on the wrong side of them).

Fat side role?
