I’m ready for experimenting but I know it won’t happen. Start prepping for Lobb/Darcy in 2023.

I reckon Sweet rucked 25% tonight and wouldn’t have got much overall game time outside of that. Not sustainable unless Tim plays more forward.

Sweet took 40% of the ruck contests tonight. Only getting his hand on the ball in 30% of them.

No thank you for the massive dough he is on another two years.
Massive dough? He’s on 450-500k. Reckon we are paying Schache and Cordy collectively way more than that and neither is any chance of being in a best 22 defence. Tomlinson is having a down year because of his knee last year but he’s clearly a skilled player and a very good trainer.

Big no from me on Tomlinson..... He's not the answer, or if he is - we're definitely asking the wrong question...

Our tall forwards got pantsed tonight. Granted the delivery was absolutely woeful at times and of course Bruce will get much better but Wilkie and Battle played career best games tonight.

And FWIW Bruce has never done well without a dominant KPF alongside him. He's struggled unless he is beside Riewoldt or Naughton.

Naughton would have kicked 4+ tonight.

The supply in was terrible. We moved the ball well to 50 out then our tall forwards just stood there not moving it seemed and ball was bombed in. That’s ok if Naughton is there who can take a contested grab but Bruce is under done and was never a big contested mark and neither is Jamarra. Sweet didn’t look like getting near it up forward and English was relatively quiet

I don't think he's the answer either FWIW, I just would prefer him over Weideman

It's a bit like asking whether you'd prefer to be bludgeoned to death or trampled to death...

But I agree - Weiderman is not the answer either....

Oh I agree the delivery last night was diabolic. Bailey Smith the main culprit.

Pretty fortunate saints just gifted us several diabolic turnovers that we punished early. Make no mistake though JUH, Bruce and a resting ruck ain't getting the job done up forward. Not against the good teams.

Bruce at his prime is a good/very good secondary option. He struggled at the saints being number 1 and he struggled with Naughton out for 7 weeks in 2020. He's been at his best with Nick Riewoldt or Aaron Naughton who are number 1 KPF's.

Despite the duo ruck last game that wasn't why the dogs won because English was woeful in the game and Sweet was ok. Was won by bont, libba & macrae winning the ball in the middle and dishing it out.

Wrong thread I think, but it was one of a few reasons. None of the 4 rucks last night were any better than average, but sometimes that’s all we’ve missed. A ruck making the opposition rucks accountable and at least halving the contest, which then allowed our mids to get on top. Just because we bat deep in the midfield, it doesn’t mean we need to send them out most weeks to play to an opposition strength.

Sweet should play most/all of the rest of the season, at least give him a block of games to see what happens. But if we get Lobb, 100% he’d be backup depth only.

We’re being linked to Liam Jones.

Pretty sure he crossed over on a $3m/5 year deal. He’s a utility anyway, not a defender.

I would hope we're considering Jones. As weird as a return would be we have to exhaust all avenues that could improve our backline. And it's not like he slept with anyones teammate or got done for some horrible crime - he just had/has some dumb views. As long as the club is confident his presence wouldn't cause issues then we should look into it. Especially since he would presumably come cheap.

Nick Larkey?

Would he be a good back man?

Lobb is playing with a stinger shoulder tonight. He's been dominate most weeks for freo.
I agree that he's been very good by Rory lobb standards this year.

He'd likely cost too much for his actual eventual output at the bulldogs though.

The key position 25yo+ player the bulldogs really need to splurge money on is a key defender and he doesn't fill that need.

But we do need a replacement for Martin. Bevo seems reluctant to play Sweet.

It looks like Bevo would play a 2nd ruck if he had the right player. Maybe Lobb is it?

Lobbs definitely that forward + chop out in ruck type guy.

But he's going to cost a pretty penny and I'd much rather spend the cash on keeping our talent or acquiring a key back. Which is a much more desperate area of need.
