Lobbs definitely that forward + chop out in ruck type guy.

But he's going to cost a pretty penny and I'd much rather spend the cash on keeping our talent or acquiring a key back. Which is a much more desperate area of need.

We need more than one new KPD.

Maybe Darcy becomes a KPD. Geelong have De Koning playing as a FB at 206cm.

Everyone feeling better about Lewy Young? I wish him all the best but he does not make our current team better at all.

doggies ftw I am a firm believer that you don't require high end talent to create high end defenders. We saw it tonight with Wilkie. He's a rookie selection and he was clearly 2nd best on ground behind bont tonight in my view.
So many high end intercept defenders in the competition are actually late selections. Our 2016 defence was basically rookie selections and delisted free agents.

Sicily, Ballard, Collins, Luke Ryan, Jeremy Howe, Marcus Adams, Wilkie, Alir, Grimes, Mcgovern, Stewart, Ridley, Balta.

I could go on an on. I bet none of them were top 15-20 draft selections. They are easy to find.

Paddy Mccartin despite being a number 1 selection was basically classified as the delisted free agent and easy to obtain. Now he leads 2022 intercepts.

Personally imo you build the forward line around Naughton with the guaranteed other player being Darcy (due to his 2nd ruck potential). Then either make the decision to play Bruce forward and Jamarra back or JUH forward and push bruce back. Maybe the latter due to long term development.

Naughtons is also high risk with clangers in defence in my view. Not sure you want him kicking out of defensive 50 too often.

Perhaps. But if the dogs had of acquired May and Lever when they were available we’d have won the premiership last year. We didn’t, and Melbourne did. Not saying it’s through lack of effort by the list team, but that’s the difference.

He goes to ground too easy.
He has autism and was teased in school but to suggest he goes to ground too easily is a bit unfair. I'm sure if there are chairs available he'll use them while interviewing someone for his next Herald Sun article.

We would have needed to trade the picks used on Naughton and Bailey Smith (plus more) to get those two.

Start Darcy out as a KPD lessen some of the battering he would get as a KPF. Let him use his football nous like De Koning.
Hopefully it works out as well for us and he can go forward when Bruce is done

I’d look at Gaff if west coast chipped in a significant portion of salary (especially if Hunter goes).

We have been playing most the year without a recognised wingman. His running capacity will add a lot.

Mitch Cleary. Said Ameet Baines hasn’t ruled it out / is considering it.
For better or worse, we’ve actually spoken to him.

Apparently (whether you agree with it or not) he’s not thrilled with Carlton after the way it ended but still loves the Dogs. His reasons for moving were very much the coach at the time.

Slightly different take on KPD recruiting:

Same as everyone:

- absolutely want a walk up KPD as part of this years trade

- very keen on top end in the draft to replace Keath if he can hang on for 3 years (could be optimistic)

- would take McAsey - he is a bulldog and really good size for a kid. Was so disappointed he didn’t get to us and worth a go.

But,

I reckon Gardner will end up a very good footballer. The fact we are playing someone with such little experience and physical presence against no1 key forwards is not his fault. Against Buddy he looked lost - but Buddy has 1000+ goals so knows more about getting on top of his player than anyone in the game. Need to play side on and Dustin Fletcher clumsy elbows but even then Buddy would adapt. Keath would normally play on him but is carrying a calf and couldn’t keep up and would have been killed.

He is improving pretty rapidly - some bad games but also some good ones and is adding things to his games - like taking marks. Add another 20 games and he will be OK - like a Gardiner from Brisbane type. Not as flexible but bigger.

He is fast - much faster than many - but is often indecisive - if he goes Morris pathway and just becomes ‘The Glove’ he won’t think about anything but pressure on his man.

Lots of talk about Ben Miller etc but they are killing in their teams - so why would they for us?

Let’s say Sammie delivers and we get someone like Logue - then our backline would be:

Duryea/Crozier-Keath/Gardner- Red/Williams

Dale/Cleary - Logue/McAsey - Khamis/TOB

Rotation Daniel/Scott (even though I would play Daniel on a wing and give him more freedom)

Drafted KPD won’t play for two years.

Darcy may go into defence - especially when the team we play rests a ruckman forward

If Crozier leaves - he is a favourite of mine and should be playing IMHO - but he should - has three more years and needs another fresh start - then with only Duryea we don’t have a lock down small defender to play on the Cameron, Bolton, Papley, Sh!tface etc group.

I don’t mind Scott there - he is a good player but we just keep moving him about. Reckon this is a need - Duryea is a star with great aerial ability needed against these good marks but is 30+ and so need someone 25ish and ready to go.

Don’t get the Hannan move - he is a mobile 190 mid forward which we need playing as mid defender that we don’t need - unless he can take intercept marks which he can’t. Seems like more a ‘spin the magnets’ because of the disappointing effort by TOB after being given a lot of games to show something.

Hannan Is fast but not agile enough to play well on smalls and not a good decision maker at speed. Prefer Khamis or Cleary. Too short for third defender where we only have TOB, Raak and Parker - none have established themselves (big fan of Raak - he is a goer).

Morris was same height as Hannan but much stronger and enjoyed the body work - while Hannan tries to take hangers in space. However, Bevo sees something in him and this may make him - am very happy to be proven wrong.
