The “halo effect” in Queensland wasn’t the arrival of a footy legend most people there had never heard of, it was winning. That’s the only thing that will get GWS more firmly established too.

On the other hand, if the AFL wants to maximise the value of its assets, Clarkson coming home to NMFC makes them more money and that starts from day 1.

Not saying it will happen, just that it’s not automatically head office‘s preference that we miss out.

We may be a big enough problem now that AFL have to address it before next Media deal.

I know absolutely zero about what Clarko wants but he doesn't really strike me as someone to work under a footy club that is plastic.

It is something I think has failed GWS since their beginnings. They can get all the talent, all the great coaches, all the world-class facilities and generate excitement etc.

But the one thing you can't buy is culture. It is engrained, encouraged and it will live for generations. Do the Giants have that feeling? That vibe? When the going gets tough, when shit hits the fan and game styles aren't working or they are losing the contested ball, they have to fall back on something that makes them unique. What makes the Giants unique? What is their mantra that gets them going to fight back? What will entice Clarko about them to sign the papers?

It is probably why Leon Cameron never made it there. Like I said, you can have all the good stuff but if you don't have heart, you won't make it.

When Clarko sees that things aren't going his way, he needs someone to be hard at it. The Luke Hodge type (as much as I still hate him for obvious reasons). Someone that has been engrained into the culture and will lead the boys out for a scrap. Jy, LDU, Cunners, Cam Z etc. are all the types Clarko would like.

Who is that guy at GWS?

I'm most looking forward to Clarko bringing a kicking coach with him which FC alluded to. The Hawks have turned plenty of limited players into gun kicks over the years. Could turn our bunch of butchers into guns.

If it was as simple as bringing in a kicking coach, not sure why we haven’t done it already

Do you think they want Clarkson too, or?
GWS desperately want Clarko IMO, just like North. GWS’ whole “we are running a process” narrative is just bulls***. If Clarko said yes tomorrow, the process would end. Both clubs are desperate for him (as they should be).

Obviously the desperation of North will only be reflected in the media though.

Hey lads

I do know his building a holiday house in cape shank - not sure that means anything

I found this out a few months back when a close friend of his was on one my sites

even at that point north was on his radar - like everyone really hope we get him - we need him and I actually think he needs us to - if he wants to solidify his legacy this is the job you take

I would be surprised if Clarkson doesn't pick North Melbourne to coach. I think he would be in a no lose situation with a fair amount of talent to work with and has history at the club. I believe he would be thinking a lot of the hard yards have been done, and if I had the choice between a club that I played at and has been around 150 years and in Melbourne compared to a GWS in Sydney I know who I would be keen on coaching.

Lmao get f*cked GWS. Hoping the AFL would automatically say yes and assume they'd support the back door cash deal of the ambassador role and they finally grew a pair and stepped in to slap their hands away from the cookie jar.

Race is over, he's ours now. Come home Clarko.

I'd say GWS did show quite a bit of heart leading in seasons up to that 2019 GF. They scrapped a lot of wins with a large number of injuries and kind of become known for against the odds wins. But that GF hammering broke them and extinguished any semblance of an identity. They haven't been the same since.

GC, now there's a truly plastic club. Will never have any heart because it's not a place where sports team survive. They've had a world of talent handed to them and done f all in their 11 years.
