They can if they retire when under contract which Jones was. It's actually mentioned in the rules.https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://www.aflplayers.com.au/app/u...AQFnoECCoQAQ&usg=AOvVaw2m5YmiHVKAs5lR5SCFVmh6

I don’t think that’s applicable here though. Wasn’t he effectively deregistered? Anything in the papers about him retiring would have just been part of the settlement to forego any future claims. He was sacked and delisted. Which was applauded feverishly at the time.

With another years development, adding Dawson, and virtually no injuries to speak of, matching last year is a catastrophe

Utter failure that literally no one expected or foresaw
We do have two season-long injuries to players who finished top 10 in our B&F last year, and we traded another one of that top 10 out. Average team age is about the same as last year (actually lower I think, marginally), and during the season we've moved on a couple of other experienced players in favour of younger options. This is all by way of saying that I'm not sure our actual playing list is any more developed than last year, even if a year has passed.

Matching last year certainly isn't a good result but I don't think it's a catastrophe mostly because I think a larger portion of our good players this year are early career players who are developing. Hanging a lot on Berry and Soligo though, honestly.

He had the option to stay on the list and not get paid. He refused and retired.

Liam Baker is staying at Richmond for another 2 years

He's still on our list as he "retired" after the final list lodgment date.

The issue is that the current rules mandate that any retiree must sit outside the game for 18 months before returning.

He/Bulldogs want him to return after 12 months - given that he was forced to sit out due to a rule outside of Carlton's control, and that Carlton have still had to pay him out while he continues to occupy a list spot - they are seeking for compensation in the form of losing him as a free agent.

Sounds like he's still your player and you just frontloaded his contract. Whether he considers that to be retirement is a personal definition and not relevant to the mechanics. You should just be able to trade him as you would any other listed player.

I'm shocked at how strongly Hinkley's reacted to that sign! Must have really hit a nerve.
Someone should stick a “sack nicks” over it or a “have nicks” under it.

Port Adelaide will be denied the chance to wear its prison-bar jumper in Round 23 with the AFL making it clear the Power can only broker a long-term agreement with Collingwood’s approval.
The Power had been hopeful soft diplomacy could resolve the longstanding impasse after it was revealed last month an official request had been made for the home Round 23 clash with the Crows.

But the league has made clear it will not be able to approve any request for a game to be played in coming weeks, having previously told the Power it is prevented from the use of the historic jumper under AFL rules.

Lol and then, lol again

We all know their agenda here, if they came out publicly and said they'd sign an agreement saying we'd only wear it in our home Showdown and that's it the AFL would let them.

Just heard Rowie and some other bloke saying Port Power should wear the jumper, lose premiership, then improve their draft position as a result.

There would actually be Power losers out there getting their hopes up about pick 1 now AND they get the prison bars, 😄

Delusions of grandeur that mob.

Very predictable this would be raised again, seems to happen everytime Hinkley is under pressure.

A nice distraction that can re-unite the supporter base.

They would only lose premiership points for those games they won, wearing it.

Just diarise it for a couple of weeks before every showdown.
