Usual suspects were ineffective Hannan, McComb

Daniel was really disappointing should have played vfl with that amount of time out

English got slaughtered and mids ineffective defensively apart from Libba who was great

I would drop Bruce, he had 2 or 3 possessions in games back up until tonight where he looked slow and backed into trouble 3 time when had ball. He adds good structure out of the goal square but he is shot and ineffective as 2nd ruck

Richards, Jamarra, Libba, Dunkley we’re all good

As much as we got beaten I thought Cordy and Gardiner were not too bad

14- 11 loss in centre clearances.

What do we expect against a forward line like them, meanwhile our backline has Mitch Hannan. Especially when our all time great midfield is conceeding those numbers.

Might as well get rid of our VFL level footballs and blood some up and coming talent or established AFL level players.

Ins
Darcy, McLean, Treloar/Duryea

Outs
Bruce, Hannan, Mccomb.

Sorry Brucey but come back in 2023.

How hard is it to occasionally set up defensively in the middle and force a secondary stoppage when they're getting a run on.

All our clearances are backwards and sideways while we allow them to go direct down the middle. The system is broken, there's no way the collection of names we have should continuously get smoked like that
Opposition put a couple of tags on in the centre and we have no response and the game turns on its head. we rarely have someone on the move like Dangerfield was all night. We arent well coached in there, and our ruckman is soft and passive

So the decision to extend Mitch Hannan before he’d returned from a 10 week injury even at VFL, let alone AFL level in a completely new role, didn’t make sense at the time and it doesn’t make any more sense now.

Maybe we can get a mid week contract extension for Robbie McComb to really cheer us all up.

So sick of playing them down there. If we play them once, it’s almost always down there. And we always play them there if we play them twice. Yet other teams never have to play there. Sucks :(

Totally agree.

Just sucks playing down there. Such a huge advantage for them.

I don’t remember Collingwood, Carlton, Essendon, Hawthorn or Richmond winning many down there either 🧐 🤨

Gardner played well considering the heat on the the ball coming in after half time
Gardner was very good I thought. Under a massive amount of pressure and played well. I just don't get the hate on here from some. Baffling.

There are some losses that are so bad they are existential crisis worthy.

This is one of them.

We were 19 points up in the 3rd quarter of a Grand Final 10 months ago and we’re looking good for our 3rd premiership.

10 minutes of the opposition waltzing the ball out of the centre cost us that chance. We could not halt the momentum, win a clearance or a second stoppage, and the goals piled on.

We were a few goals up tonight at half time against the best team in the league.

10 minutes of the opposition waltzing the ball out of the middle with ridiculous ease and the game is over.

I‘m genuinely at a loss. How was it allowed to happen in a GF, and 10 months later how was it allowed to happen again?

Is our midfield not as good as we - and the media - think it is?

Is it the coaching? Seriously - how the **** was it allowed to happen?

Geelong are very, very good - I think they’ll win the premiership.

But I just can’t get over how our midfield was brushed aside like that.

____

Only shoutouts tonight:

- Richards, seriously what a legend

- Jamarra

- Gardner, heroic, deserves heaps of kudos

But I’m still having an existential crisis.

I just don’t know how or why that 3rd quarter (tonight and GF) happened.

Someone tell me. Please.

In: Duryea, Treloar, Schache, Cleary
Out: McComb, Daniel, Bruce, Hannan

Bruce is just not performing well enough. For selection integrity, Schache just has to be given another chance to play the second ruck/third forward role. Daniel shocking, not just his turnovers but his tackling and pressure is so poor. McComb and Hannan just seem to be a step below AFL level, not sure we should persist with them at their age with a healthy list.

Richards, Dunkley, Weightman, West, Garcia, JUH and a few others won their role/position. Too many didn’t.

English’s ruck craft is a big problem for us at centre bounces. Can’t generate anything through his directionless taps. Really hurts us whenever the opposition midfield gets on top.

Bruce was better than the last two weeks but still miles off having any positive effect other than the mythical JUH whispering. His presence certainly hasn’t done anything for Naughton.

Naming Daniel was a mistake, he was poor. Should call it a day on the Hannan experiment at half back and bring Duryea in next week. Would like to see McLean in for McComb, just so we have a better user in the chain.

It’d be nice if our "star" midfielders could play with even half the commitment that Ryan Gardner shows

Sarcasm alert

Forget about Keath not playing, why didn’t we play Naughton??????

Seriously the difference between his best and his worst is too great. Has too much talent to not find a way to impose himself somehow when things are not going his way.

Comfortably the worst game I can remember him playing.

Im not sure he makes it easy for teammates to kick to him. Seems to be straight at the ball carrier or nothing,

Look I understand our positional structures and game tactics falling apart when we prioritise spending our soft cap on myotherapists instead of assistant coaches, but shouldn’t we then be able to run out quarters and games better than our opponents?

Especially Smith and English. Not much resilience in that pair. They are young and hopefully can learn to persevere, but right now they both need to harden the f*** up!
