It's not a coincidence that most finalists have 2nds teams all at the pointy end as well(Geelong being an outlier)

Didn't Richmond nab a couple of 2s flags in the premiership years as well?

This is absolutely paramount!

Casey is another example of dominating in the VFL whilst Melbourne have had their run.

Melbourne have had players like Van Rooyen dominating the VFL who will be ready go next year. Van Rooyen was blanketed by experienced players like Weideman, Mitch Brown, McDonald, Daw and could develop at his own pace.

With the inclusion of Cunnington, TT and Phillips into our squad next year, the VFL midfield should benefit as players like Powell, Jed, Greenwood, Lazzaro, Phillips would all be fighting for the same spots and inevitably playing some VFL games.

You raise good points and I don’t dispute any of it, however, my own opinion is that I would like to see some experienced KP role players to help the next wave of KP draftees develop in the VFL. Im not saying you’re wrong, just a bugbear of mine that Edwards/Comben were the only KP talls in the VFL for the most part.

Yes our squad is inexperienced across the board, but probably most covered with this mid/flanker type, rather than spine players or a small forward?

Just an opinion on the positional side of the players being looked at, not so much the attributes.

Clarko will address kpp deficiencies, there is no surer thing imo

Do we get a Cadman type at the draft, Gunston in FA and Logue via trade allowing blokes like Dawson and Comben to develop? There will be action a plenty in this space

Plenty to play out and a couple of role player rumours shouldn't get anyone's nose out of joint...

This will be the big area of improvement if we are given additional rookie spots. These players are not just there to find a diamond in the rough, but also bolster the VFL team, and drive young player development.

If we got those three plus cooper and a competent winger who can run 14km and still kick straight (acres, hill, whoever) then I’d say this trade and draft season has been a big success.

It can’t just be a mature body. They have to bring something of worth to the table, not just other teams rejects. I thought the general consensus around here is that we already have enough of those?

The thing is, Clarko has changed things.

Our only hope in the past is that we have the next batch of stars coming through. When we don’t see it, we blame it on the fact the coach plays favourites which hinders the development of our young talent.

The reality is, our development has just been shit. Now we have someone we know has overseen some pretty amazing talent development. He knows what he is doing.

So if bringing in mature bodies is part of it and will aid the development of our young team - in Clarko we trust.

Logue averages like 13 posession a game and Bruhn has one like 2 good games.
In what way are disposal averages relevant to judging KPDs?

I’m not even sure what you’re trying to say regarding Bruhn but he’s a 20 year old first rounder from a couple years back. Far from a spud.

Flanders, who was pick No.11 in the 2019 NAB AFL Draft, had the ball on a string collecting a phenomenal 46 disposals, 10 clearances and seven marks in an impressive display for the winners.

Worth a look?

Better start watching Darcy Tucker highlights I guess.

Don't get too excited :/

Struggle to see how most people can't comprehend our list is way too young and needs steadying for the next thirty games.

Don't even think improvement is radical - no more than 5 or 6 wins next year. Whatever senior talent available in needs to happen. It can't be quality, because you're paying a premium in the short term for someone who is not in our next flag team.

What exactly were people expecting? Have some paitence.

But the point is no use bring in blokes who are barely an upgrade on said young players and watching the young talent rot in the 2’s then leave for more opportunities!
If you bring in players they have to add more than just an older head on their shoulders, it has the full a need and provide more than you are currently getting out of others in that spot.

100%.
We're not going to turn into the 2nd chancers like GC was a few years ago.

We definitely need another 2/3 senior players in the starting 22 to set the standard and show the young players how it’s done on and off the field. But the answer isn’t to trade for other teams reject/fringe players. We might as well continue playing our own rejects. For starters we only have pick 1, 55, 66 & 73 to trade with.

Long & Tucker seems like we are scraping the bottom of the barrel to me and don’t even fill a need. If that’s the best we can do, we might as well pick the eyes out of the delisted fa’s to find some mature bodies.

As for Hill, he’s got the running power & skill that we need but he is afraid of his own shadow. Is that the example we want to set for our kids? He‘s coming off a shocking year and has a massive price tag. He is Polec all over again.

Just stick to free agents and the draft.

Not all these names are elite players, I get that, yeah Bruhn could really come on or Louge could turn into something but the best things all these names will do will allow our young players to ply their trade in the correct positions they are meant to play in the VFL until they are ready.

I’ve mentioned the Kallan Dawson residual effects before. I whole heartedly believe him coming in and playing KPD in our VFL team allowed Goater the strong finish to his season by playing in his preferred position. The same thing will happen with these middle of the rung recruits

Not enamoured with with the reported targets.

Once saw a preseason game when the Hawks were winning flags, and my guess is if you didn't follow the teams structures, you didn't play.

The real question is, do people want to see Long, Tucker, Hill or Mahony, Lazzaro and Spicer?

I would only the latter after a substantial body of work in the 2s.

Bruhn’s first 30 games have largely been underwhelming.

Ahern and Bonar were 20 year old first rounders when we got them and this bloke would cost a lot more.

Not against it but he’s far from a lock.

Bruhn is going to be a gun back in vic he was not happy up the

I trust Clarko.

But I must say, I absolutely hate the names linked so far.

Bruhn and Long are the only one that have even peaked my interest.

Posters just doing the default "we need mature bodies to improve training standards". But part of that is on the coaching staff and definitely the senior players.

I don't necessarily think we need Liam Shiels or Darcy Tucker lapping TT to tell him he needs to lift his training standards.

None of these players will be coming in as a Captain or VC either.

Needing to raise training standards doesn't mean we automatically become a retirement home of competition wide shitmen. As Clarko has said repeatedly, the improvement across the board will happen internally.

Think Tucker adds to the wing rotation

Has an elite tank

He has played wing and half back but thought he wanted to get more inside time at Freo which was likely when they lost cerra but then Brodie came in and trumped him...

What’s happened with Rhylee West at the Bulldogs?

Can play a few different roles, would be an upgrade on Mahoney, Spicer and Lazzaro.
