I am not overly excited about Jones and Lobb being our two main imports.
The last time I saw Jones he looked like the same player we got rid of.
And Lobb strikes me as a vanilla forward who wilts under pressure.
We dealt with him in 2016.

So if Jackson ends up at Freo we are a huge chance of getting Lobb, if it's WCE we are a small chance of getting Barrass.

Not sure who I'm barracking for.

This is 100% correct he never did a medical. He is open to being traded but said the dogs haven't even spoken to him. The only incorrect part is that it was leaked by his manager, his manager actually rang him up to ask him if he did a medical at the dogs without telling him after reading the bs reporting. Goes to show we need to take a lot of this crop from places like zero hanger with a grain of salt.
Zero Hanger. My Essendon supporting "mates" are continually sending me that crap

It wasn’t mihocek it was a kid who went undrafted. his name was Ben Sloan I believe.
As shit as he ended up and even though its a massive indictment of our team at the time but I think we are all quick to forget that Gowers did win our leading goal kicker and actually did show a lot of promise in his first season

No issues with picking from state leagues, but they should be high upside picks. I don’t believe 27yr old short midfielders are high upside picks
Absolutely, we’re picking the wrong types. For example, the Dees picking up Hannan from Footscray a few years ago is a good pick despite him not completely coming on. He’s a great size, super quick and can take a good mark (similar to Fritsch).

Picking short, slow midfielders with poor skills is the worst mistake you can make.

This is why I like the VFL pickup approach. While all have turned out busts so far it might unearth a Barlow, Rampe, Brown, etc.

How good would have Rampe been had we held on to him?

It wouldn’t have mattered if he went onto win 4 brownlows, the problem was it’s not Bevs job to be making that call - the final decision should come down to the guy who gets paid to do it full time, and we lost the best recruiter in the game because of it

Putting aside whatever off-field issues Hunter has had, he was regarded well enough by the playing group, and ratified by the coaching panel at the time, to be made vice-captain. Obviously has leadership qualities, and has been evident in the past with his on-field directions and positioning. If he clicks at another club, even with his slow looping kicks, they will benefit from an experienced premiership player and BnF winner who is also a smart on-field operator.

I'm resigned to his departure, and sounds like it is better for all concerned. It's ultimately sad, and an indictment on current leadership within the club and of Hunter himself, that he/they couldn't get himself back on track.

I wonder if his link to the McVeighs (first cousins) will facilitate a move to Sydney or GWS to get out of the Melbourne AFL bubble as others have done in the past? He'd be fairly anonymous up there - as long as he avoids parked cars.

Some snippets from his Wikipedia page (we often, myself included, forget some of his achievements in the rush to write him off):

It's not his job overall no but on late speculative picks having input isn't out of the question and in the end here he was right. It didn't cost us the best recruiter in the game at all the overrating of Dalrymple here is on another level, he is a good recruiter sure but he isn't head and shoulders the best in the comp he just isn't a liability like Dodoro and SOS

Word was that we were planning on taking him but Melbourne took him with an earlier pick.

He was a fantastic player 3/4 years ago and I don't think many of us forget that. The reality is the game has gone past him as a player and his skill set is no longer what is required. Tom Mitchell is a brownlow medalist and is in the same spot

It is sad. He's a great competitor and gives his all. I just hope the club can say it's done everything it could have done to help and support him.

Hunter was a Essendon supporter as a kid, his cousin played for them. I think it likely he might end up there, and agree Lloyd is trying to bring his price down. I don’t think Lloyd ever got over us saying no to them getting Dunks, has been a bit of a campaigner towards us since.

How? How could Geelong possibly in the market for this?

Hello...AFL? Wanna have a look at their books?

We should be all over this. All over it.

I think Lloyd is a campaigner to us all the time. F*** him. We hold Hunter and only let him go for the price WE want.
