I agree with you. He should have got a decent run.

We don’t have Lobb yet.

Regrettably, I think Bruce is cooked.

That leaves Naughton, JUH & Darcy. I would play Naughton CHF, JUH at FF. Darcy forward pocket.

Schache could/should survive in our squad as an addition to the above, either forward or back.

If Naughton gets injured suddenly we look a bit thin with 2 young fella’s in JUH and Darcy.
Agree with you but I would also consider playing Darcy CHB next year but I’m not convinced on that.

All I know is Naughton, JUH and Darcy are real weapons now and going forward

I think Darcy may be a little slow to hold down CHB. He would pluck plenty of intercept marks no doubt, however he would be outmuscled and would not be able to stay with the quicker key forwards. He will be a brilliant player though. A tall forward chopping out in the ruck is where I see him. If we don’t land Lobb I think he may chop out English from 2023. I would rather see Darcy chopping out English in the ruck, even as a 20 year old, over Bruce, Cordy etc.

I agree with this.

I get why people say that if we walk him to the draft we don’t get anything. What we do get is the stopping of a potential flag rival getting even stronger. We need to be sure this is understood by the Lions.

Spot on. How many times in the last few days he we heard 'With Dunkley, Ashcroft and Gunston, the Lions will be flag favourites/unstoppable next year?'

Lions have to understand this comes at a cost and if they're not prepared to pay it, then Dunkley (similarly to Jade Rawlings all those years ago) can go Pick 1 in the PSD.

The Lions not being able to use the PSD threat does help us, I also think it has partly driven the way we have treated Josh publicly, especially at the B&F. Even if its a smokescreen it shows Brissy that he can always just come back to us if you don't play ball.

28 minutes til we are underway. Genuine question, why don't they just make the free agency and trade periods the same dates? I see no purpose for free agency but no trading today.

I just did. His main talent is to be tall, and Brisbane won't miss him at all.

In fact, they have improved getting Gunston.

Even if Brisbane could match they wouldn't bother as they know if they get an end of first rounder it is highway robbery
I'm not entirely convinced Gunston is an upgrade for them on McStay. Is he a better player no question but they now don't have a contested marking forward who does all the grunt work and were already flakey with the pressure from their talls.

I thought about this the other day. Daniher and Hipwood are already lead up the ground forwards not known for their contested play, Lincoln McCarthy is probably the best mark in that forward line now.

Agree. McStay was also more versatile in that he could take a few Ruck contests or be swung back

With him gone and Adams future reportedly dicey with his concussion/body issues, the Lions tall structure looks pretty thin for mine

Easier for clubs to prepare what compo picks they can use

Yeah I'm not a fan of McStay but you can't deny that his two best features are his contested marking and being a big dude, Hipwood and Daniher are both roamers that mark on the lead and they kinda need a player to reliably mark a dump kick down the line.

There was some talk on the Brisbane board that they could even consider moving McInerney back to that role and play him with Fort as the ruckman. It would give them 3 genuine talls + Gunston as the medium but they do have them surrounded by some serious pace & pressure with guys like Cameron, McCarthy & Bailey.

McInerney isn't a forward assh*le and makes their forwadline the easiest to walk out of in the comp as none of their talls pressure now anyway

I'd like to cut a little bit deeper than that but what would I know
Tend to agree. After such a disappointing season we could have expected more culling. As it looks now, we're probably only exiting 4 players other than Dunkley. Some of those that will go around next season have dubious value. We could argue these are being kept for depth but we could also argue they will, at best, be fringe players who will play out their time in the VFL. As mentioned elsewhere, we are hamstrung by several players being contracted for next year who, if out of contract this year, would be shown the door.

Not sure how they can get it done but Bowes to Brissy would be best case scenario for us. Get pick 7 involved for Dunkley
Very easily. They can offer their pick 15 for Bowes, 7 and one of the Gold Coast second rounders.

Trade 7 to us for Dunkley in a straight swap.

Is he really though? Had long enough to prove himself and the results weren't that great.
The reality is that a coach can only take a team so far. At the end of the day, the players are the ones that produce the on-field results. North's list wasn't terrible but it was thoroughly mediocre. Now he might not be a great coach but he's never had a great list.
