Most of the world have had open wheelers as the top echelon for their best drivers.
You could argue that our formula bogan has held our top drivers back from having a career path towards formula one.

For example Daniel Riccardo was racing in Europe by the time he was 20.

Yeah regardless of the rights and wrongs of the individual decisions, what this all highlights is how messy our public decision making processes are. Like twitter comes up with a random position on shit, then the media is kinda guided by twitter, then the politicians are guided by the media, and no sensible decisions are made in any direction.
