Still think itd be a better move to swap our pick this year for someones pick next year, then move our 2024 to 2023 and have a real go at Reid. Not really sold on this draft at all and itd probably be good to have a buffer for contractual purposes.

Reid is a Martin/Stringer hybrid, if he's half as good as the former then move heaven n earth.
If North were knocking back offers for JHF in his draft year of 3 first rounders Reid is going to cost about 5. 0 chance of anyone giving up the rights to take him number 1 if he continues on his trajectory.

Precisely, however an elite such as Reid will help win a flag and put bums on seats irrefutable & invaluable.
No harm in preparing a strategy, p10 is out of range of elite talent for 2022 cohort , we may be lucky, keeping fingers crossed, but we’ve had a bad experience with similar pick position.
Astute planning and good vision is essential. Go Blues

Our best chance of Reid getting to us is being locked in jail for the 2023 season and even then he may go top 5.

Pick 10 will get us a good crack at a solid role player and as Austin said theres still a chance we could move up the order, if not we'll be looking to bolster our hand with a pick between 10 and 29 to add to our depth.

This could be the year of the tank. Hawks and Saints are throwing their hats in the ring.

Could mirror the NBA and the tank talk over Victor Wembanyama the 18yr old frenchman who is 7'4" (8'wingspan)is rampant.

Not sure selling 3 drafts worth of first rounders to try and get pick 1 is the right move. Not that I think we'd even be able to get it anyway. Also might want to have some picks left for when the campo twins are available.

Harley Reid is built like a stick insect but throws around top age players like nothing. Knows how to use his body so well. He’s the best kid I’ve ever seen play, I am so excited to see how good he goes when he makes it to the AFL.
Weight is 82kg. Heavier than most of the top prospects this year already.

Best way to get Reid would be to dose our best 22 with the good stuff, dob ourselves in, have them all suspended for next year, finish last, get pick 1 as a reward.

The only way we get the first pick to grab Reid is if we tank for Pick 1.

No club is trading away access to him unless the deal is outright irresponsible on our part.

Not exactly irrefutable is it? Plenty of good juniors don’t progress as expected at AFL level.

Yep. We picked poorly once at 10 so we should never pick from that spot again.

Let’s delist Harry McKay whilst we’re at it, he’ll never make it.

As for p10 being out of range of elite talent…according to who? Does every club know this and are they planning to pass on their selection accordingly?

Would bet a lot of money that an elite player surfaces from beyond pick 10 in this draft.

Pick 10 itself has a few big misses on it (not that I disagree with the contention)

High risk operation that one

No guarantee that we could even achieve points parity with this years first round when trading for futures. We rely on finishing positions to do that. Always potential to go from 7th or whatever we have to 18th - be pretty difficult to make up the difference to trade for #1 from there. Then, you're also relying on a club being willing to trade pick #1. Which, as we saw last year isn't always simple.

SOS Reckons the best way to get Reid would be to:
Arrange a meeting on,

Drinks on Austin.

Let him Drive Matheson,s Lambo

Guide him to the nearest RBT site

... If we had a past 100 game player adopt Reid, would he go under the father son rule? It would be so funny if a club tried doing that and how the AFL would respond
Don't think it does work that way. JHF's stepdad is Fabian Francis, who played 100+ for Port (though some of that was with Port before they joined the AFL).

Pick 10 will get us a really good player if we are prepared to look hard enough.

We just need to get a good player at pick 10 (plus maybe more after hearing from austin). Some players available at this pick from past years

2019: tom green (10), kozzie picket (12), SDK (19), ad warner (39)
2018: zak butters (12), nick blakey (10)
2017: zac bailey (15), brandan starcevich (18), oscar allen (21), noah balta (25), bailey fritsch (31)
2016: jye simpkin (12), tim english (19), shai bolton (29), tom stewart (40)
2015: daniel roili (15), tom doedee (17), jade gresham (18), josh dunkley (25)

These are just examples of some good players available at pick 10-40. If we can nail 2-3 of these picks over the next two years, it will go a long way to sustained success. We need to plan now for when cripps etc retire. Seems crazy to think of that now but it must be done
