Harley Reid is built like a stick insect but throws around top age players like nothing. Knows how to use his body so well. He’s the best kid I’ve ever seen play, I am so excited to see how good he goes when he makes it to the AFL.
Lukosius and Rankin looked better prospects than the older draftees in their underage year. They didn’t get any better the next year.

Hopefully this doesn’t happen to Reid

Which is why we should have dangled him this year IMO. I get the distinct feeling we are going to have to overpay for him in the not too distant future. Im far from convinced he will be the player many keep raving about. Its not going to change our trajectory to lose him.

Bemoan the Williams deal if you like, but don't do it whilst also advocating for the same kind of deal for TDK.

He's not worth $800k, he's barely worth $500k, and even that would be on potential more than output. Shelling out almost a million a year for TDK just results in more whinging when we don't have cap space to re-sign Weiters in a couple of years.

If another club comes in and offers TDK the world, and he chooses to take it, then we cash in. Simple as that. We don't need to be freeing up cap space to match monster offers for a flashy kid. We need to hold firm with Tom and remind him that his teammates are taking unders for the sake of the team, and he's got a fantastic opportunity to do the same and be part of something really special. Ball then in his court, and either way we stand to win.

He's on nowhere near 800k. That is MSM BS.

Most certainly is...
Geelong were willing to walk Henry to the PSD... Can't see why they wouldn't be willing to threaten it with TDK...
The club with the ooc player can play hard ball as much as they like, but they hold no power anymore.

Best case scenario for us would be pick 18 and a future pick...

IMO, Think TDK will re-sign with us though...

The pull of big $$$, playing in Geelong, playing with your brother at a premiership contending team, would be hard to say no to...
They won't be contending for anything in another year or so mate - even they have figured out they need to go the draft and they too will discover that high picks means jacksheet ...I'm sure TDK will figure it all out.

I was being very conservative. Considering he apparently extended when he wasn’t getting a game I would be surprised if it was too high though
It's quite easy to imagine he was quietly extended to manage an owed payment over an extra year or carry it over and that's why there was a lack of fanfare

Just a thought bubble

As uneventful as the last 2 weeks was for the club IMO this trade period was more about who we kept than who we got.

Signing Harry and Charlie to long term deals a year before they entered free agency was a massive coup for the club.

If we cast our minds back to 2021 and IMO the constant speculation about Cripps had to be slightly destabilising for the club.

Also we had to offload a few players, specifically midfielders so I think the club got it right not offering contracts to Setters and Stocker.

Next year we will go into the season with all the core players - with the exception of maybe only TDK - signed on multi year deals.

Also a lot of peripheral and bit part players will be out of contract at the end of next year so hopefully that brings out the best in them in 2023.

Either way let’s not worry too much about what other clubs are doing because by most good judges we have the players…they just need to deliver!

If he gets a good run this upcoming preseason then I’m more than confident he’ll have a career year next season. Probably best to sign him to a 2 year extension before round 1.

Well I was right about SPS and I banged on about trading him for years before we got around to it.

We’ve been down that path already, and it’s not pretty reading.

Even a broken clock is right twice a day.

Stack been delisted by the tiges. Worth a punt?

Absolutely not. Talent can only take one so far.

TDK will be resigned with minimal fuss at some stage through the year. Some of the histrionics around him being the second coming of Christ and clubs throwing him bags of gold are pretty far fetched. He is on a good trajectory in a good environment. His pay day will come if he continues on this trajectory but it's not yet. My guess he will sign a 3 yr deal on sensible coin and we move on. We are not talking C Judd. Grundy's blow up has also been instructive. Long term deals for rucks are dangerous. Clubs would be aware of this.

Still think itd be a better move to swap our pick this year for someones pick next year, then move our 2024 to 2023 and have a real go at Reid. Not really sold on this draft at all and itd probably be good to have a buffer for contractual purposes.

Reid is a Martin/Stringer hybrid, if he's half as good as the former then move heaven n earth.
