Roads in Perth, roads in Pakistan, boring as *.

The best cricket is when the pitch and conditions favour the bowlers across the 5 days.
I only caught the afternoon session with the Windies batting yesterday and didn't find it boring at all. Good contest between bat and ball.

Hopefully that continues today.

With Curators having to prepare so many short form pitches compared to test pitches...is it just a dying art?

Most curators are now 2+ generations separated from the guys who only ever prepared pitches for 5 days of play.

I don't think this Perth pitch has been a road actually. Windies bowled without much luck, they did generate quite a few chances but ran into "kissed on the d**** version of labu. They have also lacked a bowler with the pace to hurry our batsmen, not the pitches fault. Windies bats have had a pretty torrid time of it but held firm...dare I say it - they have been tested.

The Pakistan pitch...

Is that only because of the massive gulf in talent? Windies won't come close to scoring 600 (FFS) runs, but the road will help their batsmen put on a "contest"?
I suspect the curator has produced a fairly benign pitch because the match started on a Wednesday and they're hoping to have a crowd on Saturday and Sunday.

I think the Windies bowling efforts made the pitch flatter than it probably is. There was some assistance for the Aussies yesterday.

The Pakistan pitch isn't helped by the fact that Pakistan's used bowlers have 34 test wickets combined.
England's attack is Anderson, Robinson, Leach, Stokes and Livingstone.

Will still be a strong side as long as Kelly gets matches. Thunder are going to be pretty hard to beat regardless.

When Cricket Australia deliberately tanks attendances in Perth because it’s better for TV on the east coast

And admits it

What a woeful organisation

QLD are 3/166 after the second session after being sent in. Paris has been excellent with 3/21 in 17 overs. Scoring has been slow with a run rate of just 2.27. Yesterday was washed out so it’s just a 3 day match, so a draw looks pretty likely. Which frankly wouldn’t be a bad result for WA, since QLD and Tassie look like the next-best Shield sides aside from WA.

Another piece of good news is that Tassie trail South Australia by 181 after the first innings. We still have two matches against Tassie so they’d be most likely to overtake WA for a home final.

What a joke by CA

Anyway, can't wait to see us or Freo get 6pm Thursday/Friday night games when the fixture is released next week.

An article on cricinfo said that Pakistan’s debutant spinner is a guy who so far this season had taken 13 wickets in 5 matches, averaged 45.76 and allowed 3.58 runs per over. The other main spin option is his teammate in domestic cricket (so playing on the same pitches), that guy’s numbers this season are 43 wickets in 7 matches, average 21.95 and 2.97 runs per over. Easy choice except Pakistan picked the guy who sucks because he “had been in the team environment for a year, came close to playing without getting an opportunity…. We don’t want to break a queue and fast-track someone when someone else has been waiting their turn for a year.”

Now this is absolutely moronic team selection, your job is to put the most competitive team on the field, not give a match to a guy who has carried drinks for the past 12 months. Lo and behold, the debutant went for more runs than any other debutant in Test history. (He also took 4 wickets, two of whom were bowlers)
