The Aussie selectors have officially lost the plot. Renshaw in for Head, no left arm spinner? Apparently Head needed a therapy session after being axed. I would be absolutely filthy if I was him. It’s like we are tanking but there’s no draft.

It's a bad selection because its not like Renshaw is a known great player of spin, but...

Head is as bad (or even worse) than Warner on the SC. He's a quarter of the player he is in Australia.

He’s done enough in Australian conditions to be given the benefit of the doubt. Surely he’s grown enough as a batsman to have dibs over Matthew Renshaw. He’s the fourth ranked batsman in the world so he’s far from garbage.

The team balance just feels all wrong, selectors being too smart for their own good

Honestly, Warner still being in the team is a complete fail IMO

Strap yourselves in for mediocracy peoples

He's garbage in the SC based on prior experience. He averages 21 in Asia. Warner for comparison, averages 32 in Asia and he's widely regarded as an ordinary player in those conditions. Another comparison is Starc, who averages 19.

I wouldn't have dropped him because I don't think Renshaw will do noticeably better, but him not playing in isolation isn't a big deal to me. I think if you want to play Head in Asia you should open with him so he has some chance to get set before the spin comes on.

I dunno. I know I harp on about it but it feels to me like Warner, Smith, Starc, Lyon and Hazelwood (the NSW contingent) just walk into the team as soon as they’re fit. Everyone else (except Marnus) seems like they’re a poor run of form away from being on the outer again. Head earned his spot. You can only perform in the conditions presented, he earned the chance to push his case in India.

Look I think the non-selection of Head is a joke but the NSW contingent continue to walk back into the team because they're the best cricketers* in the country. No other reason.

Labuschagne and Green are exactly the same but aren't from NSW so no one complains.

NSW is the best state at producing talent in Australia so get a lot of players in the test team. Even Khawaja and Murphy (by a few kms) are from NSW too!

*Debatable for Warner recently unfortunately but name an Australian opener that'd do well at test level. I'll give you the tip - any answer you give is likely wrong.

I hope they are leaving Warner in so if he fails he can be dropped for England. He’s a walking wicket over there.

He's a walking wicket everywhere except the first innings at the MCG, apparently. Would have loved to see them open with Head but I also hate seeing Renshaw in the team.

Imagine trading four first round picks plus three players for a 34 year old

I'm sure you already realise this, but NBA is way easier on the body than AFL and Durant could be playing for 4 or 5 more years (see Le Bron). Plus 1 player makes so much difference to a side. One KD is like having an AFL side with 10 x 27 year old Fyfes.

What gets me is how far away the future picks can be. The KD first rounders are 2023-25-27-29. The Irving trade was a 2029 1st and 2027-29 2nds.

NBA trading is just completely different to AFL. Took me forever to reconcile the difference. The Amiss vs Naughton debate I was starting on here would be incredibly funny in an NBA context
