Doesn't sound too good re Cuningham - as suspected

Real last gasp hope

On CPH2005 using BigFooty.com mobile app
Probably - but also would be a case of getting him 'fit' enough to get him out on the park.

If it goes on him again, then he's probably out to pasture. Best possible scenario is to take the risk to get him out there and back to his best, then assess whether he needs surgery post season.

Hypothetically, say he ends up getting shoulder surgery during the season whilst still maintaining a level of aerobic fitness through running, cycling or whatever - and by the end of the year he's in a position to hit pre season at 100% - do we still delist him?

If he doesn't play a game this year - there is no chance he is retained on the list imo. (even if he plays games, he would have to be pushing to be best 22 to be retained - same goes for Marchbank)

As for the shoulder - thats what i said when it was first revealed he had hurt himself - most likely going to see if it will come good without surgery as a last gasp try at keeping his career going. But by the sound of it, he may not even get past a month before they say its no good.

Better for Cuningham’s shoulder to go out in a bit of horseplay after training rather than in the heat of battle when he’s really needed.

If anyone recalls the lead up to the 1982 Grand Final and Richmond Coach Francis Bourke’s fitness test on Mick Malthouse’s shoulder.

Bourke wrestled with Malthouse after training and the shoulder popped out again ruling him out of the game.

brutal - he failed it........

Cerra being mentioned as overpaid for is ridiculous

Just searching for the headline of our salary cap struggles

He’s fairly paid

The bit that annoyed me about Kane was that he started by saying Cerra's contract which I'm told is huge. He got corrected and backed down straight away which shows he was just making it up.

Does his own credibility no good with stuff like that.

I actually don't mind Corn - he's entertaining, but does come out with some absolute garbage.....how could we forget this one.....

“This is what gets me … why would you give George Hewett four years? That makes no sense.

“I read he hasn’t been offered a contract at Sydney, the contract will come but they’re not in a position to offer him it yet, why would Carlton give a player who is not getting a deal at another club four years?

“I don’t mind the move, it’s fine. Give him two years, why four?

“Four years for fringe players who can’t get a game, it absolutely blows my mind the long-term contracts that these players, particularly the fringe ones, are offered.”

May prove to be the complete opposite. If Hewett continues on in the same vein as he did last season and this preseason, had he been out of contract at season's end he'd be well within his rights to put his hand out for a payrise. Have a feeling we've got a quality player on relative unders for the sake of initial job security.

He had a good moan about Harry's long term contract also. If we hadn't offered Hewett 4 he'd have gone elsewhere.

If we didn't offer H a long term deal he also could have ended up elsewhere. We couldn't match the $ of other clubs so have to tack on extra years instead.

If you don't they walk - Kane leaves that bit out when moaning about long term contracts.

ESPN has 5 Carlton players in their 50 best AFL players heading into season 2023:
Crippa at no.2
Charlie at 10
Walsh at 24
Harry at 36
Hewett sneaks in at 50.

Saad a bit stiff to miss out.
I reckon there would be a case for Weitering being stiff as well. I appreciate his back end of lastyear was below par, but his body of work over the last three years would put him in the conversation of best KPD in the league (even though AA selectors look for the flashiest).

Not after his 2nd half of 2022. Yeah, he was injured but still came back tentative. Played a bit like that during preseason as well. I back him to turn that around but here’s no guarantee he gets back to his best.

Was very good against Syd imo - won his battle convincingly

"Carlton is weighing up playing three first-gamers in front of 90,000 MCG fans against Richmond as the club’s reinvestment in the national draft looks set to pay immediate dividends"...
I’d back Cowan and hollands and also Cincotta to play r1 if required. All have go in them. Can never be sure but they don’t appear the type to go in their shell playing in front of a large crowd for the first time.

BIG DEALS
Zac Williams (from GWS) - Six-year deal worth up to $700,000 a season until 2026

Mitch McGovern (from Adelaide) - Five-year deal worth up to $800,000 a season until 2023
Jack Martin (from Gold Coast) - Five-year deal worth up to $600,000 a season until 2024

Found this interesting given the salary that has been floated around for Williams ~850K per season by some.

tbf, i sort of agree with Kane's opinion of Cerra at present. At the end of the game he'll have 25 and ill think to myself 'didnt do much today with those 25' - and his kicking (imo), by the eye, is not as good as a lot on BF say he was at Freo - espeically kicking into the f50.

Definitely needs to impact games more and go another level. Showed it in a couple of games late in the season of what he needs to be doing more.
Ol’ Gerard put his in his 2c with his regular calling of WA games & insight on his capabilities that Kane may not have been privy to.
He opinion was that AA was where he should be to be classed as successful.

I thought he was good at the start of 2022 season before injury/illness derailed him and that he returned to some form again later in the season. More of it required, with his regular level of performance closer to the top end. Can have have a look at G.Hewett for inspiration.

The bit that annoyed me about Kane was that he started by saying Cerra's contract which I'm told is huge. He got corrected and backed down straight away which shows he was just making it up.

Gerard again stymied this convo when he offered up that our offer was likely less than that to stay in WA.

Just goes to show that the media have no clue and are largely guessing when it comes to player salary.

And yet many in the general public take their word as gospel.

Interesting the change the max Barry squiggle has made since preseason. He had Carlton at 2nd with our changes in the off season and had us losing the GF. Now after preseason games we have moved back a little while others have gone past us. Clearly he values the off season games. See below. He now has us making the semi and losing to Melbourne after beating Richmond in a qualifying final. I would nearly take that. 28CDE79A-FAF6-4529-A468-C12C17CEDB8D.png

Mark Robinson criticism of Essendon for making excuses for their form on the weekend is exactly the requirement of Carlton Supporters.
The excuses need to stop if the Carlton Players do not deliver. This forum is top of the excuse ladder, the podcasts are generally far more advanced in critical thinking and asking more of the club and players. Honest critique should not always end in Coaching cleanouts but need to exact changes to coaching methodology, support staff and playing personnel . The playing list has never copped the full brunt of the supporter base. This list needs to be firmly put on notice: Mcgovern, Martin, Marchbank, Owies, Plowman, Young, O'brien. Well done to Robinson for shutting down the complacent Bomber supporter base.

Think some of the players you have mentioned there cop more than enough from the supporters.

Owies doesn’t belong in that group. He may not be as talented as some of them but he is a robust type and gives top effort and goes in hard.

A couple of things here MJ

Firstly, Robbo (and Sheedy) is still bitter that his man Hird didn't get the gig, so whenever they underperform, he will happily sink the boots in

Also, it's a practice match, which has zero impact on the season

Lastly, you do have a tendency to overreact when we have an unexpected loss or poor performance even in a win

Again, it was a practice game, where at least 6 starting 22 were out rested or preparing for round 1, Harry, Gov, Cripps, Newman, Martin, Durdin
