I'd be happy for me to leave if we get a first rounder as compensation. Good player but his poor disposal kills me, if we could get a first rounder for him and bundle it with our first pick this year to move higher up the draft board to add another elite player to the young crop we have that's a win.
I’d only consider it for a top 10 pick and even then I’d need to see how the entire trade period plays out.

He was on the ABC and most of those guys got given credibility because they didn't have to push the corporate agenda. He was the last of his era to go into the commercial networks and he's believed that he's some how special. He was the last because he was so terrible that no-one wanted him. He's a boring egotistical little goblin. He's like a beige Bruce McAvaney. His greatest talent is making sport dull when he's calling, that is unique. He makes it sound like he's reading accounting books out loud. His best role is as the prissy, churchy, dull, straight-man to the old pisshead Robbo.
He also did boundary riding for channel 10 in the 00's. His nose was absolutely massive back then, and he had a full set of hair. Looked absolutely atrocious.

While Twomey expects Gresham to be sought after, he says the Saints are yet to table the 25-year-old a new contract as Ross Lyon begins to analyse the club’s list.

“I think he’s going to be very sought after,” Twomey said.

“I don’t think St Kilda are in a rush at the moment, either.

“There’s a period as well with the new coach where he gets to see what the group has, what it doesn’t have and how it looks for the rest of the season.

“He’ll qualify as a restricted free agent, so they’ll be able to match the bid.

“But there hasn’t been a contract offer tabled yet.”

While opposition clubs are yet to signal an interest in the Saint, Twomey expects Victorian rivals Collingwood and Hawthorn to be active in the free agency market.

“I think there’ll be a stack of clubs chasing him,” Twomey said.

Ultimately I don’t think we can lose.

But we can end up paying more by waiting and letting the market dictate his price.

Yep, that's the big issue, if we sign him up while the club has a bit of momentum and he wants in we get him at a massive discount compared to letting him play out offers and then getting into a bidding war. I can't imagine why we'd roll the dice. We have so few game breakers and would let one potentially walk because we don't back our medicos to keep him on the park. We were going to pay JDG who has similar traits and absolute fortune but then gamble on Gresham.

There is no way that FA compo gets more than an end of first round pick for him so risk walking him to the Hawks for nothing. Sos is going to earn his money on this one. Really big test coming up. Luke Ball walking out for nothing was probably Lyon's greatest act of stupidity in his time.

Gerard is by far the most overrated footy “journalist” out there. How he got his solid reputation is beyond me.

Would you take a Draft Pick in the 16-19 range from Collingwood as RFA compensation?

For me- TBC but lately he can't get on the park, might be time to cash out and build the crop of young talent around Windy, Owens, Pou, Nas and Co.

If we end up with something like picks 14 and 15, surely you package that up and either move up the draft or look to poach a player who fills a list need. I'm not necessarily for Gresh leaving, but that role that he shares with Higgins and probably Billings when he's fit is just resulting in a 'robbing Peter to pay Paul' scenario. It might be worth cashing out on one of them and helping the list elsewhere.

No I wouldn’t.

Have to end up with a top 10 pick for me to part and I’d have to see how that money gets used aswell

Maybe but there's absolutely zero chance of anything more than an end of first or 2nd so better to keep him for now.

I'd dump Higgins before Gresham. He's a really rare commodity at the Saints. We are so stodgy and he's one of the few with elite characteristics and still young. If we are so tight that we need to dump players to bring in others then surely there are half a dozen overpaid GOPs that could go out first.

Best to keep both. Higgins has a lot of talent but has been slightly off the pace since mid last year. He will reap the benefits of a more competitive aerial game in our front half though, whenever the hell that actually comes back.

The only reason you'd dump a player like Gresh before a GOP is because of their compensation value. Not saying they'll do that, just tying to point out a reason as to why.

I would too but sounds like spots and money is tight. I have hope that Higgins will become match winner and we'll see his best but for a Lyon game plan he doesn't have a great deal of pace or defensive zeal. Those small forward spots look like weak links IMO. Gresham can play mids and forward to a good standard and has a POD that the others don't.

I think Owens looks like an upgrade on Higgins at the moment. He doesn't have the pure attacking power but he's got a more rounded game.

I can't see him getting anything like what he'd be worth to the us.

I would rather have Sharman hanging around the forward half than Higgins right now- might take a couple of marks and slot a couple. Better than having him wasting time at Sandy.
