Autopsy Round 3, 2023: St.Kilda v Essendon *150 YEARS OF THE SAINTS*

Well, well, well, what an emotionally and physically draining weekend! Think I need to take a leaf out of The Book Of Windy before he kicked that goal in the last and just take a moment and a deep breath. So good to be able to wake up on a Sunday with bacon in the fridge, few responsibilities and the time to just soak up all the Saints talk. This thread has been a very enjoyable read, thank you all! 🍻
Not to mention the bonus hour of sleep. Thank you daylight savings

Despite how good Crouch and Ro were, we got beaten in the middle yesterday. It's the only reason they even got close to us for a while.

Yeah, correct, I felt like they were slowly wearing us down with the weight of numbers despite us having a better system

Luckily our blokes had the fitness and heart to fight it out.

I am back from camping.

Tarp is down on the living room floor, baby oil at the ready.

About to watch in full for the first time (jealous?).

I know it wasn’t 10 goals (I thought we were sweet when I opened my phone at the top of a hill to see 34-0) but I’ll take it 😎

If this is what this depleted group can produce within 3 games together, boy oh boy.

Some exciting years ahead.

BRB it’s baby oil time, love to all x

Make sure not to go too hard too early, it will be tempting, but you’re gonna want to pace yourself.

Well, I just finished the Game Day thread and a big shout out to you all, in all your paranoia and emotional instability. ❤️
Special mention to Barrels for threatening Bombers supporters with his brother.
But extra special mention to triggering bro for actually predicting the fourth quarter in the third.
Ask this man for next week’s lottery results!

Channel 7 have the full pre game on the app btw

If we are just going on output over the games they have played, Hayes has him covered.

That's not to say Caminiti won't go past him and I hope he does!

Gotta see how he goes in the ruck if he's going to play with King and Membrey too. Looks to have the athleticism
You also need to keep in mind Hayes had the support of King and Members , Hammer hasn't had that luxury

Hayes was also rucking half the time, and very much holding his own. To me he takes Cordy’s spot. King takes Caminiti’s and well Membrey probably has to take Phillipou’s spot even though I’d like to see him stay in.
Or Hayes VFL and we stay more versatile with Phillipou/Bytel etc

Just started on this thread, so apologies if already discussed, but I want to give credit to the Essendon coaches because I thought they were really smart in how they got their team back into the game.
I am not sure whether you could see it on the broadcast but we could at the ground.
From the second quarter on, they stretched our full team defence very effectively.
That, combined with their growing dominance in the midfield, meant that we were out of shape in the back half. And they could just pick us apart.
From the second quarter on, I was just waiting for them to come back at us.
That is what made us blowing them off the park in the last just so satisfying.
I am still pumped, not so much with the win but with how we won.
I’m looking forward to seeing the replay.

Watching the highlights, gee bombers were lucky to pull that back to level.

Caldwell right foot snap was arsey
Caldwell left foot snap was just as arsey (credit it to him, good goals off each foot but I'm banking that isn't a weekly thing)
Stringers best play of the match was being an absolute spud with a falcon goal assist to lead to the Langford goal, smacked him smack bang top of the head.

Shiels goal earlier in the game was all class.

They were on top of us through the middle of the ground but if those are the goals we are giving up when the opposition in on top, then I can live with that.

Throw in some head scratching umpiring in particular periods (I have checked oppo general threads and consensus seems there was a bit of confusion about some of the calls and the consistency of application between bombers and saints)

You DO all know who you have to thank, right….?
Here’s a reminder 😎

Memo to RTB:

Now look here Ross.
I live with two Bombers supporters ( I know, I know but divorce is expensive.)
My only other Saints supporting family member lives in WA, so I’m on my own here.
Do you know what it’s been like coming home after a game the past few years - I don’t even sit with them at the ground?
I don’t care if we lose NEXT round. I don’t even care if we get thumped next round.

But please, I’m begging you, get the boys up for a win tonight.

And please, Saints supporters, MAKE SOME NOISE!

Yours gratefully ( and ever hopefully),
Diehard Saint.
❤️⚪⚫😇
