That's all on the assumption Port give him up for a second rounder. If their fans are desperate to keep him then Port probably are too, and in that case they're likely to be asking for more than we wish to part with.

If we bend Port over and walk him to the club for nothing then sign me up. Otherwise, use our rare hit at quality draft capital to draft. When our draft capital worsens as we improve, trade in the missing pieces.
I’d be more than fine to part ways with a second round pick for him, nothing more.

What pressing need is an 18 year old kid going to solve?

By the time he’s ready to solve anything an undersized key forward will be a pressing need.

Georgiades has a decade left in him.
Nahhh, Injury prone and really only has a good leap which drop off as he slows down with age. Also leads to ACL injuries more often than not.

Adding three or four top 30 picks this year to our four from last year plus Long, plus Culley from the mid season draft, plus Chesser, Hough and Bazzo from the previous draft, would give us a nice cohort to build around.

I think that should be the priority.

Sat out his draft year with a quad
Has ankle surgery every off season, and does the occasional hammy as a 21 yr old🤨
Hardly a clear run of health
Off season surgeries is nearly as bad as a excuse not to get him as your ‘he jumps too high so he might do an acl’ effort in your previous post.

Everyone agrees we should keep and use every top 30 pick we can get our hands on this draft.

Picks higher than pick 31 we should keep an open mind with. We will be down the bottom of the ladder and if an out of contract player wants to come to the Eagles we use our low ladder position as leverage and get top value for picks in the late 30' s, 40's and 50's.

That leverage decreases as you climb the ladder and when Freo return to having picks before ours.

100% I reckon it's a consideration. As they say - the ground wins every time. The best high fliers all pop at some point:
Brett Burton
Russell Robertson
Tony Modra
Naitanui x2
It's a miracle Howe has never done an ACL but then again he just snapped his arm like a twig 😬 Others just gradually get ground down to degenerative knee issues after repeat MCL & PCL.

Well done Keys - one of your most brilliant posts.

It would make a load of Eagles fans very happy and put to bed the Ebert and Rioli discomfort

4 examples spanning around 4 decades.

The kids been fit enough to get through the last 3 preseasons and put his hand up for selection for almost every game on offer.

Hes not injury prone at all and has got as much chance of doing an acl as anyone else out there.

That wasn’t the actual deal, though.

Port got to sign five uncontracted free agents. There were two lots of five compo picks (1-5 and 24-28) that the teams that lost the free agents would get, based on reverse ladder position.

In return for Port (a) signing Ian Downsborough and (b) agreeing not to sign a player from any club that finished below us - ie guaranteeing us Pick 1 - we traded them Brayden Lyle and Shane Bond for a pick in the 50s.

They couldn’t have kept pick 1. It was going to go to one of the sides that lost a free agent. We just did a smart deal to make sure it was us.

Just the ones off the top of my head. There's a heap more out there.
I've always imagined a few of Naughton, Bolton, Heeney, Georgiades, Barrass, Charlie Cameron, Liam Ryan (got done on the weekend), Howe( a few weeks ago) would get serious injuries.

Fair enough but I really don’t think it’s any more dangerous than being a midfielder living on the bottom of packs for a career. Certainly not any reason not to trade for someone.

I think we can all agree Collingwood did well bringing in Jeremy Howe for example.

Honestly Georgiades for a second rounder would be a bargain in most people’s views.

The trade and drafting board.

Going by the D&T board, Phil the ****wit also thinks Georgiades is best 22 even though he keeps getting dropped and is worth a top 10 pick
