Nobody is calling for Dante to do anything but get a couple of games this year and another pre-season and then be right to go.
We've got one game out of the way.
Get another one out of the way Saturday night and see if there's an upward curve.
I don't want to be seen to be bagging Sam Hayes to defend Dante. I like what I've seen from Dante in the sanfl he's 20 years old and there's plenty to work with. Dante has a high football IQ I'd back him to take what he learned against the Bombers and improve on it.
His name has been dropped plenty of times as an "in" in the pre-meltday threads.
I totally agree that he needs exposure and getting a taste on the weekend will help him, but he got pantsed by Philips, if we're playing him against Jarrod Witts on the weekend I'm throwing the C straight on Witts in Fantasy/Supercoach. By all means give him some exposure at some point, but if it's this season lets sew up a top two spot first. He got his taste, lets see where he goes from there.

I am very pro-Dante long term, but he got 2 hitouts from 21 ruck contests, 0 to advantage. 4 disposals, 0 marks, 1 tackle, 0 clearances. Andrew Phillips is a nothing ruckman and almost won Essendon the game. If they'd had Draper we would have been comfortably beaten.
He's not ready, and 20yo rucks taken in the 4th round almost never are. I think his mentality means he's a good chance of developing into a good ruck in a few years, but we are in premiership mode and we've got no room for passengers at the moment. Every game is a must win.
We can't be losing games at selection like this. Not when Hayes is right there.
Yeah, that was the other thing. Phillips is a journeyman 2nd ruck and he looked like King Kong out there. It makes it so much harder for the midfield, just puts them on the back foot. It was like Draper and Phillips versus Teakle previously against the Bombersthis year.
We can't muck around at the selection table with our rucks anymore. Hayes all the wayz.

Phillips actually got in the coaches votes lol.
It was like the string of games where whoever was rucking against teakle was getting BOG.
Hayes will probably get beaten around the ground against almost every AFL ruckman. But he can at least neutralise the ruck contests instead of letting them dominate.

Phillips played in a losing side.
Most of Teakles opponents did as well not sure of the exact numbers but Josh Carr was more than happy with Teakle and we are working on his new contract.

Visentini had four disposals and two hit-outs against the Bombers before he was subbed out at three quarter time.
Brogan, the Power’s ruckman in their 2004 premiership win, said Visentini could not be judged on that performance.
“It was a bit hard to judge him on what he did on Saturday night but I think for the structure of the team they have to play a genuine ruck,” he said.
“You can throw a (Jeremy) Finaylson or (Charlie) Dixon into the ruck and bring in (Ollie) Lord but the forward line is working so well you wouldn’t want to pull them out of there.
“So I think you have to have a look at Visentini, why not?
“I think it is a good chance to see what they have got, they are sitting in a good spot and well cemented in that top four.
“He is not going to be the reason why they win or lose but he can definitely help with the structure around up forward and you don’t have to move too much around
Cornes said the Power would probably lean to having a specialist ruckman rather than shuffling their forward line around and said Visentini could a No. 1 ruck option.
“I think what we have seen from Dante at Magpies games and probably more so in training is that he is really competitive, he is tough and he is aggressive,” Cornes said.
“There is a bit about him so if he was to get a few more opportunities I think you would see some real growth in him.”
Brogan, who is coaching at South Adelaide, said he had been impressed with Visentini.
“From what I have seen his second and third efforts are really good, for a big guy he is still learning his ruck craft but when the ball hits the deck his first instinct is to get after the footy,” he said.
“He is still pretty raw but you don’t know about young kids until you throw them in there, I think he can be a player.”
Brynn Teakle is out for four to five weeks with a foot injury, while Sam Hayes has been out of favour after his spell in the side last year.
But he was dominant in the SANFL on the weekend and Cornes said he could be discussed this week.
After reading that, it's not looking good for Hayes this weekend.
I wish the best for Visentini but Goldstein's record of 80 hitouts in one game might about to be broken.
Witts has to be 15 kegs bigger and stronger than Visentini. Holy McKernan, Batman!

Chad Cornes has been excellent in his new role.
You look back at the mess that was last season's ruck division and we all focused on Hinkley and Monty as the culprits, but maybe all it needed was a forwards coach to be able to talk some sense and say no you're not going to destroy the forward line to fix your midfield issues.
