Under the letter of the law the umpire is right both times but seriously how many times does the Aliir incident happen and is ignored.
Wines a few weeks ago, can't remember which game, I think took a mark and ran over the boundary line, then played on outside the boundary without going behind his mark.

It was quite glaring to me at the time, and I wonder if the umpire coaches called that out and instructed all of the boundary umpires to watch out for that situation.

Ol’ rubber hands Marshall eh ?

Oh and let’s not be the Crows blaming everything on a dodgy umpire call
To repeat Tredders' recent statement, "Good teams can overcome bad umpiring." If we'd managed to work better as a team last night, we would have got the 4 points.

5 things Farrel marked it ..
Dix for giving a free for throwing the ball away yet it happens every ****ing time the players put the ball on the ground a free you will not see ever again AA getting called play on **** off it's a media drivin push to penalise AA everything he does now ..
Eliot played on out of bounds what's good for the goose ect ..

mcqueery ran 40 ****ing steps from the kick out lol ..

Lol we had our moments but **** me ..

JHF would love a free just one ..

Rozzee is the premier player in the league hands down his Brownlow..

Bring on September

The htb with what 25 seconds left would be called against us at the MCG just saying 🧐

Now that I've calmed down and looking at the game more rationally I can see that we played well overall befitting a top 2 team however as often is the case over the last 10 years, inaccuracy in front if goal undid all the other good work. Our goal kicking accuracy isn't going to improve this year. Against lessor teams you get away with it but not against great teams like Collingwood.

Losses like this hurt a lot because we threw it away with what should be the easier part of our game.....set shots from 30 to 40 metres out. The hard bit should be generating the shots at goal not the final step of actually kicking the sitter.

Edit: just re-saw the Farrell marking effort and now I'm pissed again.

Our best case scenario is to finish 4th, which takes the pressure off having to grind out wins over the next 5 weeks and focus on getting our key players right for finals.

I'd rather play Collingwood in an MCG QF in finals round 1 - given how we know we can match them now. I believe there would be a huge monkey off our backs mentally from round 3s demolition....

Much prefer a Collingwood QF than a Brisbane QF at the Gabba. If we beat Collingwood at the MCG in a QF, it would be huge for our belief in a GF.

Just looked at the stats, that is seriously flattering for Evans. He was gifted a goal by Marshall but outside of that he was BAD. and we knew he would be bad before the game. Such a poor selection.
Rubbish: the two goals in the last quarter were both due to Evans.
Where SSP run onto is kick and the out of form Jeremy received his handball.

And X's goals was a result of Evans keeping the ball in play on the boudary line and handballing it to Rioli.

I see it so often through every game it’s always been a bugbear how they allow the play on.

What about the snap shots on goal starting out of bounds? Every shot is the player leaving the line but allowed
One of our players had a snap across his body from outside the boundary and the ump was very specific with setting the exact point on the boundary that he was allowed to cross back into play.
This point being where he would re enter play had he run straight on his mark.
But Elliot is allowed to enter well prior to that point and improve his angle?
It’s a real grey area, surely should have been called play on whilst out of bounds?

Drew being taken off Dacios for the last quarter staggering. Just complete arrogance when we had ascendancy from a clearance point of view up until the last. Why fix what wasnt broken? It seemed key to our structure in there.
Dacios spent most of the third qtr on the bench; mean while DeGoey got off the chain.

We will easily be able to get Grundy if he wants to come to Port. A 2nd rounder will do it. He’d be on a pretty standard contract as well its just the amount of years left the concern.
Grundy has five years left on his seven year $950K contract.
Where the Pies are paying some of his salary but only while he plays for the Dees.

Under the letter of the law the umpire is right both times but seriously how many times does the Aliir incident happen and is ignored.

This is my biggest issue with the umpires.

That and this “rule of the week” shit they keep doing. Last night “rule du jour” was Deliberate Out of Bounds/Insufficient intent.

With those conditions, the volume of those they were paying was insane.

The Good

Rozee still in top form
Competitive against the best team in the comp with room to improve
Drew shutting the gate on all comers. 16 tackles
Powell-Pepper firing on all cylinders
Inside 50 tackles were great
Quaynor held well
Playing 4 Quarters
Riolois best game for a while
Defence generally holding up

The Mediocre

Lots of good and bad from Burton.
Wines and Boak not impactful
Duursma getting stronger
Defensive errors costing goals
Marshall improving over the game
Butters on De Goey

The Ugly

A decent ruck and we win this game
Our 3 key forwards getting smashed and looking slow
McKenzie on Eliott
Evans and McEntee
Back end of the midfield rotation struggling
Missed marks especially Farrell
Collingwoods kicking for goal in last quarter
Our bad kicking for goal

Yes that right it was before he stepped into play but it's still the same.

You can't go past the mark while staying out of bounds, otherwise you have played on out of bounds and it is a throw in.

But I don't know if he actually did that, buts it's the only explanation for what ocurred
The field ump should have over ruled the eager boundary ump

When Ryan Burton was dropped earlier in the year I was really surprised. Always rated him.

Sat higher up that I normally do last night and can now see why.

Dumb positioning and quite a few subtle soft moments. He has become very adept at the looking like he's trying but not really because it's too hard type efforts.

Loose and disrespectful to his direct opponent. Sets up to be in selfish spots.

I've got faith in him, super talented and great skills, but also think accountability should be coming thick and fast.
Far too many short steps..........

Not all is lost, we still have a wildcard up our sleeves if Orazio can stay fit. Yes, there’s a lot of hope attached to the thought, but a forward line consisting of Rioli, DBJ, & Fantasia at the expense of McEntee & Evans reads so much better.
And the Lions have to play the Pies
