When Ryan Burton was dropped earlier in the year I was really surprised. Always rated him.

Sat higher up that I normally do last night and can now see why.

Dumb positioning and quite a few subtle soft moments. He has become very adept at the looking like he's trying but not really because it's too hard type efforts.

Loose and disrespectful to his direct opponent. Sets up to be in selfish spots.

I've got faith in him, super talented and great skills, but also think accountability should be coming thick and fast.
Yup, he's been off all season. What's worse though is his weapon, his kicking, doesn't have the same impact it used to. He had a great opportunity yesterday, one which he should have converted given his skills.

He's had a few this season where he can't hit the target.

If one is play on then so is the other. I don't see how you can run off the line of your mark if you are starting out of bounds.
You can under the rules if you run in one direction off the line of the mark.

AS I understand it the difference between the Aliir (changes direction in running off the line of the mark and so is called out of bounds) and Elliott (moves in one direction off the line of the mark and so was called play on) decisions. It's subtle but I think its there.

Wines clearly isn’t right.

Whether it’s a chronic or acute problem (knee? heart? hip?), he’s just not at the races.

Send him to surgery or sit him next to Jonas.
Or give him 3-4 weeks to rest a week or two and then have a mini training block before finals. Get three games into Jackson, or bring Narkle back in.

Yep. He's been doing a lot of slow running drills away from the main group at training and you can see he is under duress during them.

My guess is an ongoing hip or groin issue that has hampered him all season.

We didn't s**t the bed at all. Collingwood have been doing that to everyone. It was impressive we actually wrestled back momentum. The scale of difficulty of some of those Elliot kicks was ridiculous. A little bit cleaner in front of goal and we win.

You need to be clean in front of goal when it matters, not in July.

This game gave me back a bit of faith after the Carlton pants pissing. We absolutely tanked that one.

You literally did tank that one. Which shocked me at the time. I couldn’t understand it myself. I honestly thought you all here would be pissed at that more than anything else

Giving up the Carlton game for free could cost you top 2

You gave us a free hit at you and I have no idea why.

And they both do it. Elliott was off the line of his mark from the outset because he cribbed to the right as he walked back. So both should have been called. End of the day it changes nothing.

But if you're in the middle of the ground and take half a step to the side it's play on.

An absolute stinker of a game from Wines. Literally offering us nothing. I called for his head 2 weeks ago and was laughed at but if that game doesnt warrant at least the threat of being dropped than idno what does. Did anyone actually notice him out there tonight?
Weird that we are in a situation where the Captain and Vice Captain are in such rubbish form. Some tough choices about leadership next year.

This is pretty funny ..

Watching the game last night I did wonder a few times, does the Dissent rule apply to Collingwood or only the non-boxoffice clubs?

Thought this myself. Cox was waving his arms around arguing about this call for ages, well after the free had been taken. As far as other decisions have gone this year that one has to be paid. Is the standard now that this is NOT dissent? That's fine by me, you have to allow the players to get wrapped up in the game and show emotion, but it needs to remain consistent.

From memory Dixon missed last week's game because of an injury he picked up/made worse when he was thrown in the ruck, after an awkward landing in a ruck contest. The same thing happened last night while rucking in the last qtr after the Lycett substitution. He was limping badly in that qtr. Just don't risk playing in that position. He looks proppy enough without risking further injury

Think about our two games before the Carlton one.
They were also very ordinary.
I genuinely thought we were done for the year, and expected a 10 goal loss last night.

Was pleasantly surprised that we were able to switch it back on.
If we play like last night for the rest of the season we will remain second, if we don't then we deserve to fail.

I am a lot more optimistic about Port after last night's game.

Next is the Showdown, then Geelong away, a lot will be decided by then.

We failed to capitalise on our advantages in the 3rd quarter and you made the most of that.
Enjoy the chocolates, see you in September.

Watching the replay again and I think this is a bad bad loss. Sugar coat it all you want but this was a near full strength team, at home in front of a huge crowd. Regardless that it finished within two points, we want to win a flag, these are the games we need to win. I’m worried for the next few weeks, absolutely don’t want Brisbane at the Gabba in the first week of the finals. Wines, Lycett and Marshall all out of form. Plus the bottoms 5 players not contributing. Hello darkness my old friend playing in the background.

In isolation, last night’s loss wasn’t too bad. But in the wider context, it was horrendous. We clearly rolled the dice on players who are stuck together with tape and came up wanting. When combined with the previous week and the recurring themes in losses like this, it really sucked.

Yeah I have no idea with the Carlton game. It was crazy. 7 changes and then played like we dgaf.

Oh well. Hope you embarrass those campaigners next Friday night

Under the letter of the law the umpire is right both times but seriously how many times does the Aliir incident happen and is ignored.
