The Sydney Swans VFL side have overpowered Essendon on Sunday afternoon, with a dominant 82-point victory in their Round 19 clash at Windy Hill.

Honestly loved the attack that Stephens has on the ball and really looks to take the game on. At least watching today's game, he wasn't getting caught holding the ball at the centre and was able to break free or at least handball it out to a team mate's advantage but the kicking inside 50 was the downer...Too often it was not to the advantage of the forward (kicking it directly at them and allow the defender to spoil or kicking it into space with no representation around the drop) and at times, he was close enough from 50 to have a shot himself which I would back him in to do. I feel it all comes down to his decision making. kinda like Blakey in the early years as a forward (everything up the ground was good and then anything to do with the forward half would completely break down due to a lack of composure).

Francis was really good with the one-on-ones and the intercepts. His kicking was inaccurate early on but I feel like it got better as the game went on. He actually looked decently fast which I was a bit surprised by.

MacAndrew was really good in the ruck and around the ground, some strong tackles and contested marks, though he did have the moment where his attempted mark inside 50 looked very uncoordinated, tripping and dropping the mark (no criticism just thought it was very funny). If he can add some weight and a bigger tank in the off season that would be amazing.

Thought Will Gould also played a really good game early on, kicking 3 goals with one as a rover like snap. He did fade after the second half but the damage was done. If he can work on his forward craft, he could see a career as a swingman on both ends of the ground which would be very good for him.
Harry Arnold deserves a mention. Just looks big, quick and composed. As good as Francis was I'd love to see Arnold in if Rampe misses.

I've been watching him closely and I think he has the goods. Your assessment is spot on. There was one play where he dished off to a team mate then sprinted forward to provide an option further afield. My instant reaction was "geez he's quick" backed up shortly after by the commentators. He's solid overhead and his disposal is clean.

Is he the type of player that would do better in a better team? the step up to AFL level will suit him more than vfl?

Pity the Ressies game is on earlier.. means the sub and probably one other miss. Other two may play limited minutes just in case.
I think if we were going to have Stephens as sub, we'd have done it in recent weeks. Think it's an intentional snub for one of a couple reasons.

So I expect Warner to be sub, Arnold to be held over, maybe Stephens plays the first half.

Good to see five of our 6 * members of the Allies are all named. Hope they all get significant minutes. I’m really looking forward to seeing how Rider and Cabor perform.

Hopefully Matty Roberts is able to complete a full game. This will be a much sterner test than last week. The Giants are a good Ressie team.

* only the young ruck prospect in May is missing. Bit hard with Stretch, Ladhams and Owen playing.

Be interesting to see where we play Cabor. Good to see the Allies boys getting a run.

I like the look of Max Rider. Smart player inside 50, has a few tricks and is fast. Definite late draft / rookie chance. Cabor played alot out of defence for the Allies. Again he would be a late draft / rookie chance. If either or both these two don't get taken this year, hopefully they could play as overage selections for our academy next year and push to be taken in 2024.
