VFL 2023 Swans Reserves

Shits me to tears that the game closest to home at Casey is basically a no go, or would have to leave at half time to ensure I get in to town for the Seniors at the MCG. Ridiculous it is not played as a curtain raiser at the G. Will try and get to the games v Frankston, Port and Collingwood.
A MCG match costs the clubs a lot of money.

Yet having a game at Casey with a gap of about an hour between the end of it and the start of the seniors game will mean that, at a guess, 50-75% of people that may have gone will no longer go. Even if they shifted it an hour earlier would be a huge difference.

VFL DRAW 2023:

After posting this I swear - the first person who posts 'Where can i watch/listen to the upcoming VFL game" will get a 1 day ban for being thicker than a brick:devil:

Swans VFL 2023 Fixture Analysis
The fixture sliced and diced

Four byes. Still don't really understand why there are so many? Money, I guess? Seems a real killer of momentum when you've got the seniors playing the same weekend and those who miss out twiddling their thumbs for an extra 2 or 3 weeks in the season. Especially for the younger guys missing out on match time/experience.

EDIT: Anyone have a definitive answer as to why there are so many byes?

21 clubs + AFL bye means at least two byes and I have no idea about the others, but probably money

23 rounds and 3 byes made sense to me but the AFL isn't in the business of making sense.

It's great for Swans fans based in the eastern suburbs. It's right next to the SCG. We don't have to travel to Blacktown. It's well linked by public transport. Matches are free to attend.

I personally don't care much about the media, commentators, statisticians - they'll survive. And I'm sure I'm not alone.

The only downside is the tree that blocks the view of one of the pockets. Maybe our VFL team can play on our AFLW ground next season

There's zero cover for spectators when it rains or when its super hot. It's basically an oval in the middle of park - in truth its barely fit for purpose and I'm actually surprised we can get away with getting games there.

Remember that when fans complain about the lack of proper coverage of our games at Tramway. The media aren't going to fall over themselves when they've got nothing to work with, which they don't.

I'm not entirely sure how far we can upgrade it even.

Are you forgetting about Bus stop C??

In all seriousness though, supposedly the reason we play Casey at Casey without time to get from the ground to the MCG for the seniors is so they don't lose money. Clearly we understand that no one is going to attend a game at Henson Park and risk only having an hour to get to the SCG on time anyway, so they may as well have it at a ground outside the SCG with a lack of facilities and have at least a few people turn up.

Yeah, money would be a major factor in hosting all games at Tramway. Henson Park and definitely SCG would cost a bit of cash to be able to host a curtain raiser on. That's the case of the MCG and Casey, it costs a shit ton of money to be able to host a second game at the 'G

There are loos nearby so the biggest issues are lack of shade, seating and decent sightlines. I wear a hat and long sleeves, as I do for the seniors game sitting in Row E and carry a Swans folding chair. I carry cold water, a sandwich and snacks.
Sit on the bump near the loos and you get a bit of a look.
Not fantastic but it works OK.
Stroll over to the Seniors game.
Priceless!

Yeah. Can't beat the closeness to the SCG and the Entertainment Quarter. It is literally across the road.

In truth I doubt they'll allow any further development to a great extent as there's a huge caveat on Moore Park not being commercialised. To the point they'll be weaning people out of parking on Kippax over the next few years.

Great photo, where do the cameras go as it seems there around those trees . Still should be called Lake Oval by the way
Yeah, they are where the trees are in scissor lifts, from memory I don't think those trees are there anymore? I haven't been there in a couple of years though
