As a 19yo tall who's been handy, I'm surprised he's not been extended until the end of 2025.

Would have been happier with that than Petruccelle.

"handy" is just that red flag.

Petch has been our best CBD clearance winner since a transition to there. We need more like him.

None of those 4 should be on more than 1 year deals… shows we have learnt nothing about just clogging the list and letting the credit boys choose their terms

Of the four of them, I thought Jilliams would be the one that should get two years.

There’s a lot to be said for that old policy of giving players over 30 one-year deals. You never know when they’re going to hit that cliff.

Down to 12 without a contract for 2024

New Contracts
Culley - give him 2 years
Witherden - 1, maybe 2 years

Possible New Contracts
Waterman - health dependent
Petrevski-Seton - leave unsigned until after the draft, maybe rookie list

Potential Delistings
O’Neill
Foley
Clark
West(R)
Trew(R)
Winder(R) - maybe keep

Cat B rookies
Dewar
Baker
Depends on whether we need to make space for new Cat B rookies this year but think they should both be retained for another year

2024 delistings - Gaff, Rotham, Jamieson, Hedwards any of the guys that dont go this year, maybe Ledwards
2025 delistings - Gov, Darling, Cripps, Sheed?

Okay. Looks like I'm i n the minority here but I'm okay with it.

Gov took a pay cut to help out his team mates and we still desperately need him

Cripps is chronically underrated on this board, he was still performing to a very high level.

Petch is frustrating but has just started to come good as a mid. I can see why we have him two. Worst case scenario, we'll get more for a trade.

Jwill speaks for itself, I'm still not totally sold but I wasn't on BW either. Bigs take longer.

If fans expect players to stick fat with the club, we have to reciprocate. Two years isn't excessive imo

Looking ahead to next year and who comes out of contract

Probable New Contracts
Ryan
Duggan
Jones
Williams (Bailey)
Long
Maric
Barnett
Burgiel

Potential Retirements
Darling
Gaff
Yeo (Durability dependent)

Questionable
Rotham
Edwards (Luke)
Edwards (Harry)
Williams (Jack)

Not as many obvious delistings as I thought

Sorry McGovern barely plays and Cripps isn’t going to get any better , infact he is likely to drop off and become less impactful.. both should have had one year deals.. take it or leave it with triggers for a second year…

We don't know that isn't the case. Contract announcements could very well include any extension options.

We also don't know that Nic Nat didn't meet a required trigger clause and was not guaranteed a contract before retirement for example.

BS for the gov and cripps. 2 years is excessive for players who are 32years+.

The cliff comes quick, which we experienced with nic so it looks like this club just keeps making the same mistakes regarding list management.

Winder and Foley should get a chance next week also give Clark a chance in the middle they’ll all know it’s pretty much over but give them a chance in the last game to prove something. I know it would take a massive game but the club really don’t have much to lose by playing them

It's been explained a few times but the extended runs for the old blokes is because our mid tier players are trash and haven't taken the next step.
We would have been expecting players like Rotham, Sheed, Duggan, XON, Cole, Waterman to have taken the next steps to ease the need to rely on guys like Shuey, Yeo, Crippa, Gov etc, alas they haven't and are bog average at best.

So now we have to wait for the kids to catch up to speed and to help cover for that while cutting the dead wood they are milking the vets for as long as possible. The club SHOULD be aware of what they are doing and I believe they do at least know this much but we never should have been in this position with decent list management.

Winder had an indiscretion early in the season that set him back and injury but the last month of footy from Winder has been very good .....should get another season contract regardless .
Trew and Winder should get another one year deal they are capable of playing AFL football .

Cripps is averaging 7 kicks 6 handballs so yeah performing at a very high level ..
