A wise poster said on here a ways back that we would get an additional first and end of first.
Now the talk of pick 11 id suggest was before the Magoo had an offer .

Either pp 3 and 19 for Magoo or 3 for Magoo and 19 pp.

No way we were ever walking away with 2,3,4 never a chance.

2, 3 , currently 14 and then 19 is a wonderful hand.
Maybe 2 , 14 and 19 for pick 1, I don’t like it though. But it isn’t about a pick it is about a player.

And if Reid is that good we just paid a hell of a price for winning a meaningless game. At the time yeah it was important but not sure it was that important. Time of course will reveal all.
I was filthy over that last round win. Made me want to spew, thats just me tho

We need to work out how to turn 2, 3, 14 into Reid (1) and O’Sullivan (6-10).

I was totally against this earlier but now leaning that way.... think Reid is a country mile ahead, the others seem a little bland in comparison

I'd take sanders if he was free or if we didn't have the current crop of mids that we do have

Tom Stewart, Jake Lever, James Sicily, Jeremy McGovern are not KPD but certainly impact AFL games

I will re phrase, then.

Unless there is clear evidence that the fella is going to meaningfully impact games aerially, then his height and weight isn't relevant.

I see a nice mover and all of that, but I haven't seen an aerial threat and definitely not a contested aerial threat.

This year is about getting the gun in Reid. If we leave this draft without Reid it will be an absolute disaster. Then it is about getting two or three Victorian key position players. Next year, we can get the midfield top-up player at pick 1-5. Spargo, Fisher and Haynes will fill gaps in the interim.

All of these guys impact by intercept marking which Curtin does not do - which is why people are questioning his value.
I don’t watch much underage footy so not really in a position to comment on whether he is an intercept defender but have seen this listed as one of his strengths by more than a few draft experts

He’s been compared to Sicily by the draft watchers, he doesn’t take contested 1v1 marks but foes cut ball off and read play intercept marks. He’s a gun.

WC trade 1, 20 & 39 for 2 & 3 (McKercher & Curtin)

GC trade 5 for 15, 20 & 39 (+600 points and save 1000+ on no bids in top 3)

NM trade 2, 3 & 15 for 1 & 5 (Reid & O'Sully)
Yep, that’s where we need to be heading. Three of the four bottom sides win out from that trade. All those clubs and the AFL should be working to make it happen.

If we aren’t in for Curtain/McKercher, would NMFC look to trade the anticipated pick 3 compo to WCE/other?

This draft looks to have pretty strong showings of key position players. I’d suggest that we should look at trying to nab a minimum 2/3 of the following:

O’Sullivan - strong preference, love him
Murphy
Croft
Edwards
McCabe (bid early so that Hawk *era have to match)
Reid

Could we realistically net ourselves WCE future FRP and their pick 19 for pick 3? In the long run, is this a stronger position to be in?

We’d have a very strong draft hand next year and actually have some trade assets at the table.

Thought the only reason we were taking him that early was to be a kpd?

He's not the finished article. Nobody is. He could play round one as a quick athletic rebounding defender with high IQ then we can see how he develops. He did well on the best key forward in the draft this season.

For all the talk of O'Sullivan there is almost no chance of Clarko drafting him. He buys other clubs key defenders.

Curtin would be very unlikely to play key defender if drafted.

He drafted Sicily and knows the importance of an accumulation intercept athletic smart footballer… Curtin is a lock

James Sicily was a forward drafted in the late 50’s. He was brilliantly repurposed.

At that, I tend to agree right now we will probably draft Curtin (but I expect a lot of twists and turns).

Have to laugh at people questioning Curtins intercept marking, pretty hard to intercept when you’re lining up in the centre square 🤣

He killed it at the champs (MVP) and was gliding across the ground today as captain of a premiership team..

Clarko would only take him if he sees him as being a damaging rebounder that can do the job defending without getting his pants pulled down.

The question is... how is his kicking? Is it elite or not?

I was expecting something more impressive than what I saw in this package. There are plenty of turnovers or sloppy handballs to see here that don't meet with a description of being "excellent". No doubt there would have also been times when he was outmanoeuvred by an opposition player that weren't included here because he didn't manage to touch or get near the ball other than the last bit of footage. He was touted as a potential KPD and was selected as the AA Centre half-back after the national under-18 championships, hence my reference to Curtin being seen as a potential KPD target. Apparently he is multi functional, but we need to start drafting the best talent available in this supposed super draft to fill some of our more obvious list holes. Defence is front and centre in that regard.
Not sure anyone is saying this is a super draft
