He's only the second player to have won the AFL Coaches Champion Player of the Year Award twice, after Gary Ablett Jnr.

In other words, he's been the best player in the entire competition for two seasons according to those best qualified to make that assessment.

Pending due diligence, pick 3 would be a bargain.
Unless he comes with a bonus time machine attached, we're not getting that Oliver. We're getting him for the next seven years. And if there are red flags about drugs/lifestyle and attitude, it's a huge risk.

From a football perspective there's no way you can avoid him. He would be fantastic for our list. From a behavioral perspective there are major red flags

I have serious concerns about the ability to play Wardlaw, LDU, Phillips and Oliver in the same team/midfield.

I'm sure it could work, but at the same time I really rate our midfield highly and don't want to do anything that risks their development.

It's the same reason I'm not super interested in Reid/McKercher - I'd much rather use our top picks on players like Curtin and Watson and really go into 2024 with full confidence in our young midfield stock.

Yep, all those things are true too.

Consider the "pending due diligence" bit of my post underlined, italicised and followed by three exclamation marks.

Aight I've come around on going for Clarry. They can have the 3 priority picks, surely thats enough. It's 3 first rounders, thats pretty good ;)
From a football perspective he’s worth it, but if what’s been reported is true and Melbourne want him Gawn this offseason, they ain’t getting anywhere close to that.
Oliver holds all the cards, he’ll nominate a club and Melbourne will ultimately take what’s on offer.

If Darling is on the table would McGovern be? Assume he is on even more.
Barrass & McLovin are their 1st choice backline... it allows them to develop 2-3 in the WAFL and bring them later on

They wouldn't want to lose McLovin and his Building business wouldn't be as easy to move over east

Darling I doubt will go anywhere and think its just someone's wishful thinking (from WCE)

This trade period has started off absolutely crazy, Melbourne are looking to trade Clayton Oliver and I'm agreeing with everything that The Nostradamus posts, WTF is going on?

Oliver was only in Mooroopna for a year or two. He's from Echuca.

But you just have to look at his head to see that he's cooked. Either that or he's trying really hard to play the part.

I think that we're in a lucky spot with Viney and Clarko. A couple of years ago and I reckon we'd do something stupid, here.

If we bring him in then we'll have all of the information to make a good decision.
Sure sounds like there is a lot of baggage, if they're keen to dump him....I'd be happy enough flicking em what a pick in the 20's isn't that what they coughed up for BBB. As for baggage, I'd be comfortable with it if Viney is.....he'd have better intel than any football boss outside the 4 walls of the MFC. But pick 2???? No thanks take that to the draft.

Also from this account. It's going to be a big trade period.🙄

Right, so as I understand the goss, with the best draft hand in history we're going to spend it on Sean Darcy, Jack Darling, Clayton Oliver, Mabior Chol, Zac Fisher and Dylan Stephens.

Seems a bit of a Lehmann Brothers approach to investing capital - Clarkson and Viney don't seem to be the types, but who knows

Are we seriously considering making a play for Oliver?

The bloke is off the rails

What you’re adding is something we’ve missed in a very look time, genuine hardness.
you saw how much a first year player in Wardlaw stood out, imagine adding someone even stronger at the coalface.
if it doesn’t cost the earth you’d be silly not to look into it

I reckon Shep has some stiff competition there to be honest. With a town representing each state, Murray Bridge and Nimbin would give it a run for its money
**** all meth in Nimbin these days.

20 years ago it was ****ed up but not as bad now.

Only a fool would believe we'll be taking all these high picks to the draft. The league need us to be better (much better) and soon. There's no doubt in my mind we're looking at some good contracted players in a trade
