Why are we giving multiple picks to WC?
I really don't understand the notion of dumping our draft hand for Reid.
He's not better than the combined efforts of Mckertcher, Collard and another tall defender. Especially when we're trying to plug holes
We would still be drafting at 1, 3, 17 and 57 (which will come right in to the 40s).

Lads thoughts on the below if we forget about reid and are realistic about our expectations.

Trade 3 and 18
to Melbourne for 6 and 11 and a f2nd

Trade 11 and 15 to gws for 7

Draft
2 - Mckercher

6 - Sanders or if he’s gone then curtain would be there

7 - Sullivan or Caddy if we took curtain with 6

17- Schoenmaker

Means we Ideally leave the draft with mckercher, sanders, sullivan, schoenmaker and late pick. Plus gain an extra 2nd for next year.

It’s not a shocker. Good work.

If Corr or Logue were playing in a good side then we would call them high quality.

If just one of the experiements work (Comben, Pink, Biggie, Dawson ... Phillips or another rookie?) then we would have 3 quality KPDs and a couple of decent backups.
There’s a lot of ifs in there buddy. Wish I shared your optimism. I’d have more confidence in Murphy with pick 15 than any of the above except Logue.

There's 2 ifs, buddy. One saying that proven KPDs are quality and another that one of 5 KPDs might work out. I'm hardly reaching there.

Having confidence in Ollie Murphy as a KPD is far more optimistic than anything that I said. He's a rake and 2 years away from contributing at the AFL.

Other than a lot of WC opinions being way off the mark, in general, I just don't get the constant comment that they need midfielders and Reid will fill that role.

McKercher and Sanders are much better midfielders.

Reid will play either forward or back and use his one on one ability. Then he will occasionally attend centre clearances. I just don't see him as a mid. I could be wrong.

When you compare the outlay the Dogs made for pick 5 then imo 6 and 11 alone is a fair trade if the Dees are desperate for their man and if he’s on our board then maybe just the starting point.

You're assuming those players will be available at those picks, and they might. But I think the best approach it to go to the draft with the picks we have. Once we start ****ing around with picks it starts to get cloudy. We haven't had a leg up in terms of early draft picks, ever. I'd rather not, besides, there are a few issues that need to be addressed, but not all.

Their man is Reid right?

They won’t get near Reid trading with us (not that they have the ammo anyway). The talk is Duursma, hence getting ahead of the Hawks.

Yep, trading down makes much more sense than chasing Reid. So many options with 2 6 8 11 & 18.
McKercher (2)
Sanders (6)
Curtin or O’Sullivan (8)
Murphy or Leake (11)
A. Reid or Green (18)

That would be an absolutely epic haul. It shores up the midfield as best as practically possible, strengthens our defensive KPPs, general defenders and either allows a young KPF or ruck 2-3 years development before we are playing finals consistently.

I would much rather have these picks than chase Reid, who's to say Clarko isn't on the same page

North will leave draft with 2 of best 3 available. Would be shocked if not.
I’m hoping Mckertcher/Curtin and Reid but I am thinking least likely.
Prob 50/50 it’s mckertcher/Duursma or Reid/Duursma

Would take Leake and consider Schoenmaker at 18. The way I see it, we need close to a new back 6.

In the last 20 years or so there's been one number 1 pick - Nick Riewoldt - that
topped his draft class.

We're running at odds of about 20 to 1 that Reid will live up to the hype and brain this group. Not encouraging tbh.

Need to think hard about any deals breaking 2 and 3 up and burning our remaining draft capital.

A lot of context there, though

Daicos was the number 1 pick but was F/S. The same for Ashcroft.

Added in the F/S & Academy kids plus a few recently discussed kids (Collard etc) & compared them to each other.

There are 12 statistical categories averaged out from the Coates & Under 18 comps over their playing careers.

Players are ranked in the top 3 (Blue) & top 10 (Green) of all categories with the 'top ranking' indicting being in both the top 3 and top 10 in any category.

*Note: Jiath & Edwards (In yellow) had no available data in three categories, so take from that what you will.

Highlighted player names indicate Father Son/Academy prospects. May have missed some.

North in the box seat here.

Players are currently arranged in 'top ranking' order.

Curtin
Read
Cleary
Rogers

etc
