Hello Eagles fans!

The embedded resources below are kept up to date by the trade board mods (as much as possible – we are human after all). Enjoy!

Seems there’s not much love for trading out our F1 for Curtin plus change if the opportunity arose

Fair enough, but…

Given the still ongoing narrative that we should trade this years pick 1 (Reid) so we can get Curtin, imagine the Vic media’s collective head’s exploding if we finished November 20 with Reid AND Curtin

It really would be a thing of beauty

Looks like no WA players currently rated in the top 10 for 2024.

May as well just trade our F1 for Curtain and save us all from another year of pick splitting hoo ha

I just wanna take all the best Vic players to rub it in their media's faces.

On Gettable today Cal said in response to being asked who Eagles take at 23, (noting that the pick likely becomes 29ish) that we perhaps take Collard if we don't think he'll get through to 40.

Sounds promising! Not a top 20 lock all of a sudden!
Freo will trade one of their F1 picks with North (17 or 18) to get ahead of us to grab him imo

But yes we'll be grabbing him you'd think if he's still there at 23.

Or we take best available with our first rounder regardless of where they're from. (or we split the pick like we did in 2022).

Nick Dacios and Harry Sheezel say hi. 👋🏻

Most of what you said is simply made up to suit your own view on Curtin.

Don’t stress mate the club will have there own view on Curtin and will make the right decision based on whether they see him as top 1-3 or 5-10 or friggen not even first rounder it won’t matter what we think. Then they have to get in the right position to actually draft him it’s all hypothetical in here.

Hopefully if the club do see him as an absolute elite talent that can get him but it’s just as likely they see him as okay talent and not be that stressed whether they have a pick to get him or not.
Daicos and Sheezel were both much better prospects than Curtin, and both weren't half back flankers when drafted, they have just been played there at the start of their careers because it's one of the easier positions to play and find a lot of the ball. Sheezel is also lethal in the forwardline, and Daicos will play more midfield as times goes on and he bulks up.

Curtin has been talked up as versatile but I'm yet to see it, can't recall him dominating any games from the midfield and he certainly didn't up forward.

I'm not saying that he can't prove me wrong and develop into a genuinely elite player, he definitely has some of the tools but from what he's shown I don't think we can afford to gamble a likely top 2 pick on that kind of player at this stage of the rebuild.

We will get a much better offer for the pick next year and the main goal of this rebuild should be to build a truly elite list, not to rush back into finals contention only to fall short like so many other teams. Of all the clubs we have the members, resources and money to pace ourselves and make sure it's done right, and I don't believe panic trading for an overgrown flanker (at this stage) is smart business, when it could cost us a top line midfielder next year.

If you look at his 2nd column it takes account of bids moving down due to bids, but not then moving back up due to points payment (the yellow bar over 37 which is our nominal 3rd pick should be higher).

(pushed to 43 on draft night by bids, but then dragged back up to around 38 on draft night).

I.e. pick 39 ish now will be roughly pick 39 on draft night.
He/They missed pushing back the second column for the Ethan Reid bid.

I didn’t look at that post when I replied to you originally, so wasn’t aware of the spread sheet.

I have run my own bids, and pick matching exercise, to see where picks end up, that included removing the used up picks.

My previous post should be spot on, in terms of movement for pick 37.

The main variable is not so much where the bids come before pick 37, but if GC trade out any of their early picks.

So the second round starts to look interesting. As it stands, here are the picks

Ralph in the HUN was reporting that the Suns will take 24, 26, 27, 32, 36 and 38 to the draft. They will then look to off load for points premiums.

Here is the extract claiming we are interested

So what we would offer for pick 24?

Firstly, we make it clear that we will bid on Walter at 1 but happy to let it pass if this deal goes through first. That saves the Suns 386 points. Pick 24 is worth 785 so we offer them a future R3 (say 38) plus 58 (total is 635 so close to 24), add then the non bid and it is a gain for the Suns of 1,021 points. Would the AFL allow it? If we throw in a future R4 or make it 37, then yes.

Would the Suns believe we bid on Walter at 1 if they don't trade, then fine. We just damn well bid. Ego's get put to one side.

With 1, 23, 24 and 37, we get
At 1 - Harley
At 23 and 24 - 2 of Roberts/Green/Gothard/Zakostelsky/Moir/Goad
At 43 - the likes of Hall, O'Driscoll, Dawson, Patton, Delean

To walk away with Harley, Goad, Zakostelsky or Moir and O'Driscoll would be a very good haul. I say Moir without any insights as to his injuries and cause of drop this season but class is class and would be worth the risk. If not, we get our next CHB in ZZ

It is expressly forbidden to offer a ‘no bid’ enticement to a club as part of a trade - so no the AFL will not allow it (however it can potentially be done in a clandestine way).

I think we include 23, getting back 24 & 26. 23 gets chewed up by a bid anyway so 23 = 24 in every way except points.

23, 37, F3rd for 24,26 is pretty close

This.

The dee's 6 + 11 + f1 and crows two firsts + f1 is complete fantasy.

Take the bias out.
Blokes say it’s fantasy that but this year we saw pick 4 (6) valued at 10,17 and F1.

We saw Melbourne offer 6,11,42 and F1 for pick 1.

Why wouldn’t the crows agree to that? Getting ahead of 2024 Welsh bid is just as important to them as getting ahead of Croft for WB this year plus they have the added bonus of Draper. No one in their right mind thinks we get worse than pick 4 next year and in all likelihood it’s pick 1 or 2. I absolutely agree with you that we won’t get that kind of return with a live trade on draft night as we would be the sellers. However, even with the bias which yes I acknowledge exists the Crows would think long and hard about that deal.

Spot on. Alternatively (depending on GCS points needs) we could offer 37,58,F2,F3 and take 1,23,24,26 to the draft. Having 3 out of 4 in a row is a huge advantage in terms of knowing the type of players available you can select in a group for list need.

He was BOG (or very close) for SA in every U18 champs game as an underager then won their MVP. He’s a July birthday too which makes it even more impressive.

In addition to that, Welsh (F/S) is predicted a mid/late 1st round bid which they will be very keen to get ahead of.
So a Curtin scenario

No. Would you call their JHF offer a Curtin scenario? They need an elite young mid. Curtin would be nice but our midfield is the priority, if he was an elite young mid ranked at 3-5 in the draft I have no doubt we’d trade down and get him, just like Adelaide will try and trade up to get Draper.
