"There's nothing to indicate they'll need a rest," McDonald said after the four-day win in Sydney.

He's missing the point.

But keep in mind he's largely a yes man and not a real coach.

The lack of talent in the Shield for developing players is a big concern, reckon there's a trough coming after the current side retires. And they're all over 30, so.

The lack of talent in shield cricket been an issue for a while now. Basically everyone in the squad atm played cricket for Aus in their teens or early 20’s. There’s not many guys these days at shield level that look ready for it these days.

I really hope Teague Whylie can find his mojo again as he looks so promising but I really hope WA push him down the order for the foreseeable future

I think there are 4 real stand out talents in the Shield right now - Ollie Davies with the bat, Hardie and Fergus O'Neill with bat/ball, Buckingham with the ball. Surprised how well Davies has done this season as it's easy to peg him as a T20 talent.

Would add Tanveer Sangha to that list but he needs a lot more red ball cricket to continue developing. I'm also not sure the current set up will back in a leg spinner over, say, a Murphy given the success of Lyon. Murphy is younger than I thought, he can join the above list. Rock on a similar level. Why can't we spread the talent to batting haha.

Guys like Jason Sangha have been huge disappointments.

Murphy and Hardie probably the only ones with consistent form over anperiod but the again Hardie Just turned 25. I think the other are defs promising tho.

Looking back it’s kinda wild to think in the early 2010’s we had starc, patto, hazelwood, cummins, smith, Mitch Marsh, maxwell, head, faulkner and zampa all in their early 20’s some of the guys probably not gone on to be what we expected them to be bia development of injury issues but that crop of you talent was way more promising than whats out there these days.

Even the current core of group of WA players were performing at high standard at an early age, while some never continued that growth and some were crippled by injuries

1. Pucovski
2. Konstas
3. Kellaway
4. Green
5. McSweeney
6. Hardie
7. Inglis
8. Sutherland
9. O'Neill
10. Murphy
11. Morris

Plenty young enough. Wyllie, Goodwin, T Sangha, JFM, O Davies, J Davies, Buckingham, J Edwards, M Perry, Bartlett also in the mix, plus more coming through from U19 level. I've already added Sam Konstas, given the massive wraps - but I guess we should take that with a grain of salt since equal hype surrounded Jason Sangha and Jake Doran.

Everything you wrote is spot on. McDonald isnt a coach's arseh*le.

It's ****ing criminal we havent used and look unlikely to use these 5 tests to rotate in some new blood. There's a real chance Cam Green wont get a run.

That was Scorchers like, defending such a below average total. Presuming they finish first and get two Gabba finals, they will probably win the whole thing.
Test is on the Gabba during finals, Heat are playing finals at Metricon
