For a high-profile new recruit, Schultz gets very little mention in training reports.

That’s not a criticism of the report writers, as perhaps he just doesn’t stand out?

I’m wondering how close observers think he’s performing and how well he’ll fit into the team.

From the very little I’ve seen of Schultz, he seems very similar to JElliott, only younger. Is that about right?

I find that he just blends in. Thats not a bad thing, but basically does all the right things without standing out.

I don't think there is anyone similar to Jamie Elliott. He leads and marks like a tall forward, with that astounding leap, and he plays like the small forward he is the rest of the time. A unique player.

Elliott reminds me of Paul Medhurst.

Very similar players. Medhurst was technically a small forward who had the ability to play leading tall

Will kick the most goals for us in 2024 IMO. No doubt kicks a few tomorrow and the hype builds.

I agree. I think he'll be a bull in that forward line, kick a couple, assist with some more & provide a lot of headaches for oppo defenders.

Consistently.

Exactly what we want & need from a small forward.

No, he’s more of a traditional small crumbing forward with high defensive pressure. Can lead and mark too obviously, but has nothing like the aerial game that Jaime has.

Even a fully fit Goldsack could easily have been smashed by prime Reiwoldt and Kennedy, so I’m not particularly convinced that him coming back early was the main issue there.
Fair point, but I would point out that Goldsacks best season was 2017 when he played as a genuine KPD and more often than not held his own against good forwards..

You attribute Goldsack getting goals kicked on him to his return from an ACL?

As opposed to him being played as a very undersized key back when he's not a key back?
Partially yes….if you don’t think it makes a difference you’d better let Fly know that he is flogging the boys in the preseason for no reason. A fully fit battle hardened Goldsack would have done a better job than an under-done Goldsack returning from an ACL…

in terms of your second point I think you’re forgetting just how well Goldsack played as an undersized KPD the previous season 2017…

Thanks for the insights.

I’m not having a go at Goldy. He gave his all bravely, as he always did. I’m just puzzled he is used as an example of success in coming back early from an ACL. For me he is a cautionary tale…Goldy in 2018 is an example of why it’s unwise to rush a player back too early look from an ACL….he was massively underdone…

We had Howe and Goldy as KPD in the 2018 finals. Along with Langdon as the 3rd tall, we had no other fit tall defenders.

A contributing factor is one thing.

I would argue even a fully fit Goldsack wouldn't have necessarily meant winning the flag. He and Howe already did pretty well given the way our midfield performed that day

It’s like McStay hasn’t even had major knee surgery. Pretty impressive he’s back running and kicking.

When I tore my ACL I was lucky to get up off the couch at that stage 😂
Same for me.

Though I didn't do an ACL.

Easiest and most accurate description is:

“What if was drafted Papely “.

No he’s not Papely. But he’s the absolute closest thing in the league.

Unbelievably underrated . Just watch the second/ third/ fourth efforts and get ready to shake your head.

He’s the most underrated offseason pickup. 100% suits our gamestyle.
Legit makes us better.

Imo from the little I've seen, he's more vanilla then Elliott (or Ginni for that matter) but will be more consistent then Ginni for overall effort and consistency.
