Unfortunately a few recent high performance studies show you can do the aerobic work, but unless the training is specific to the event there isnt any benefit as far as keeping that fitness up.

It may give a mental benefit though as far as being able to train and being involved with the group .
It's not necessarily about keeping fitness, it's more about active recovery. The best thing you can do after an injury is return to pain free movement as soon as possible, both mentally and physically.

What does DGB need to do to earn a contract for 2025?
Not retire or ask for a trade.

Plenty would argue over whether or not he's 'earned' the extension (per your question), but IMO it's almost certain he'll get 1-2 yrs.

Agree. Even if he doesn’t become best 22 in the back half after returning from 3-4 months of rehab of his foot, the cost to re-sign him wouldn’t be high.

yeah to me it’s more about whether somebody else offers him a contract (yrs or $) that’s above what we value him at.
In that case we ever spend some of the abundant cap space we have to take the gamble that he’s a late bloomer (assuming matching would be enough to convince him to stick around) or we cut our losses and take what we can in trade which will still be more than what we’d get from delisting him.

It would be disappointing to have a miss from such a high ND pick, but we’ve also offset it with the amount of quality we’ve found with later picks.

DGBs problem is that this injury really couldn't have come at a worse time for him.

Given his issues with fitness having turf toe is diabolical as it will set his cardio back a long way.

Which will mean he will be falling further down the pecking order (especially if say Phillips or McCabe come on quicker than expected).

I feel he's competing for the medium tall intercept defender role (Sicily, Lever, Gibson, Mackie). If he had 2 gorilla full backs and No Sicily or Scrimshaw he'd be doing that role well now. He doesn't have the size and I doubt he's ever be a fullback or CHB. There are clubs that are dying for a 3rd man up defender that crashes in hard. We just have one of the best in Sicily.

There's plenty of cardio exercises he will be doing during his rehab that won't be loading the foot. He's not going to be sitting on the couch for 3-4 months stuffing his face with Subway.

I really hope he makes it and think he can, but he’ll have to show real improvement in the back half of the year you’d think, particularly with fitness.

After 4 seasons, we’ve let go of plenty of players before who’ve delivered more at this point in their careers. I think the pick 6 price tag makes it tempting to want to make this work…

I'm not sure if anyone has posted this before so apologies if it has.
I'm a half glass full person.

I hope this is a blessing in disguise for DGB mainly because it's a foot injury.
He has plenty of time to eat some foods that will help him put on weight..
Hopefully he can covert that into muscle. Core strength is also vital and I hope he can improve here as well.

There's a lot of hoping here. But as posted before, I was surprised he was able to complete 100 metres 100 times. If he can manage to put on 5 kg of muscle on his journey towards full strength and fitness then I think it will help the club.
Too soon to know much...
Anyway, just my 2 cents worth.

Pretty sure it’s been mentioned that the worry for DGB outside of being able to keep adding weight is improving his tank. Unfortunately adding more weight could make improving his tank harder but yeah he needs both. I’ve always felt that improving his core strength is the key and if he can do that then he won’t have to add a ridiculous amount of weight.

Improving his tank should allow him to get better body position and a better core strength should allow him to maintain that body position. One would think that he’d be doing a sh*t load of yoga when he can put weight on that foot.
