You know when Torrent gets his hands on the ball good things happen. To elevate himself to AFL level he needs to get more of the ball. Today he did and likely played his best game of the year. Dev doing the grant work and Torrent creating opportunities.
This should be the new minimum for Torrent. He has the skill to be a gun mid.

This weekend: Brisbane v Casey Demons at Brighton Homes Arena, Saturday July 6, 1.05pm AEST

MATCH CENTRE Check out all the stats from Brisbane's clash

Brisbane was completely dominant after quarter-time in its 46-point win over Casey.

The Demons held a 10-point buffer at the first break but were held to just six more goals for the game by the rampaging Lions.

Out-of-favour midfielder Deven Robertson was among his side's best, finishing with 35 touches, eight tackles, six clearances and one goal in a superb outing.

Fellow mid Jarryd Lyons was equally as influential, collecting 32 touches, seven tackles, five clearances and two goals.

Brandon Ryan (17 disposals) and Darcy Craven (seven marks) also booted two majors.

Ruckman Darcy Fort was dominant with 23 hitouts, seven clearances and 18 disposals, while fellow big man Henry Smith (21 hitouts, five clearances, 21 disposals) led the way up forward with three goals.

Down back, Jaxon Prior (25 disposals, 10 marks) stopped everything, James Madden (20, seven, four clearances) also proved hard to get past, and Luke Beecken (25 touches, five tackles, three clearances) was solid.

Untried West Australian product Reece Torrent (23 touches, five marks), hard-running mid Harry Sharp (20, one goal), local product Shadeau Brain (12, seven marks) and young forward Luke Lloyd (12, six marks) toiled hard, while defender Carter Michael (12 disposals), Zane Zakostelsky (six) and James Tunstill (11, five clearances) were other Lions in action.

We have managed to work our way into 2nd place, boys have the bye this weekend.

Brief mid season opinion, I have attended 3 games live and watched most of the rest, most impressive players for me have been Harry Sharp, Shadeau Brain, Henry Smith, Dev Robertson and Jarryd Lyons. While Reece Torrent, Luke Lloyd, Luke Beecken and Will McLachlan have shown enough to be a tad excited about their prospects going forward.

Werribee Tigers 44
Brisbane Lions 40
Footscray Bulldogs 40
Geelong Cats 36
Box Hill Hawks 36
Southport Sharks 36
Gold Coast Suns 32

Top 10 for finals in the VFL and the 10th placed team Sandringham Zebras are currently on 26 points so finals virtually assured for us.

Interesting discussion on where Smith and Fort rank. I think it is still pretty close as Smith is still learning to use his height an strength against shorter opponents. I think Smith has the potential to improve where as Fort is as good as he is going to get, if not in decline. Given there is not much between them any opportunity to use a second ruck at AFL level should go to Smith IMO.

However I like the strategy of taking Fort as travelling emergency. It means Smith gets another full game to develop his craft.

More for the list management thread, but I also note that Fort is contracted for next year, whereas Lane is out of contract. I wonder if there would be consideration of paying Fort out to create a list spot for Lane. The more responsibility Lane is given the better he seems to go.
I'm not sure I can ever remember the Lions "paying someone's contract out" to create a list spot. Probably, not a good thing for Club culture...

We've moved a couple to the rookie list for the second year from memory

I know there’s less opportunities for our top ups with the added rookies but what’s the deal with Riley Greene; injured or just slipped down the pecking order. I assume it’s probably unlikely to say he’ll make it?

I think his injuries have really held him back. Think he could bounce back and become a draftable prospect with a really good preseason and continuity, but the odds are absolutely stacked against him. Bruce did it, but it's more exception than rule. Certainly has the talent.

You expect their talls to be beating us in the air but shouldn't be beating us at ground level like this

Need more from our midfield

Looks like Dev is on reduced minutes but the other midfielders aren't offering much and they're running off Lyons
