Player Watch Pick #18 (2019) - Mitch Georgiades

I just went back to the footage and the closest ump is 20+m away and running away from Mitch with his back to him, the next nearest is well back by the 50m line (behind play) would have only had vision of the dogs players back from 30+m away. Also play has well moved away at that point so would be surprised he’s eagle eye spotting some kerfuffle.

with what the umps don’t see during games I have a hard time believing they really saw this well enough to send Mitch up the river with any confidence.
They literally paid a free kick to the Dogs because of Mitch Georgiadies hit.

Yes.

I’m saying the video evidence is entirely inconclusive and the positioning of the umps they couldnt have gotten a very good view of the actual contact as the only umpire remotely in a position to view it was 30m+ away and his view would have been of the dogs players back and Mitch on the other side.

If he’s the umpire who paid it he’s paid it purely on the dogs players head tilting back.

Unless another ump has paid it from even further away, which is just worse.

We accepted the suspension. Just heard on SEN. Why are we so soft and pathetic, we have become the AFL’s guinea pigs who just bend over and take whats given to us.

Lol what a joke.

Guess it’s entirely coincidence that the softest admin in football at standing up to the afl is also the one that is handpicked for their jobs by the afl.

Maybe he actually did clock him.

Honestly, I'm okay with this getting a week. It was unnecessary. Poor discipline. You can't really argue with the intent, and looked high and they've only graded it low impact. the Butters one there was hardly a reaction from Green from GWS. Whereas the guy Georgiades got reacted as if he was hit in the head, he might've played it up but i think it would've been a waste of time challenging this one. Especially considering the umpire was the one that reported this one.

I get far more annoyed with accidental collisions in general play getting 3 or 4 weeks like what happened to Dixon. Pretty stupid message to send kids that you can't hit a contest hard anymore unless your timing is impeccable but you can clock someone in the head and get away with it.

What's also BS is that Libba got away with hitting our players when he should've at least got fined.

Mitch 100% hit him, however it boggles the mind that the club isn't challenging given the let offs of Butters, Hogan, etc. Maybe Mitch is due a rest and the club has decided to save some coin on the challenge.

It doesn’t matter whether he did or did not hit him.

The MRP is meant to take things like impact force and placement into consideration and there’s just zero way they could have judged that in this case with any accuracy.

Not too mention that Mitch was on the floor with the guy behind him, he’s obviously come from behind and flattened Mitch off the ball. No whistle for that.

And in the same passage of play jhf was on the ground getting smashed by two dogs players for a good while before Dbj comes in, can clearly see a dogs player striking or gouging jhfs face, and then English comes sliding into jhf with his knee .

At no point do the umpires interfere with this. At no point has the afl addressed this post match with any penalties

The league is a joke and we allowed them to push us around, and they’ll keep doing it.

Surely they argue open hand if there is no conclusive footage
What would that do?

Taken from 2023 Tribunal guidelines where they changed this specifically.
(A) STRIKING, KICKING
Striking and kicking are interpreted in accordance with their commonly understood meaning. A strike would usually be by hand, arm or elbow and will generally not apply to other contact using the body. A strike can also occur with an open hand.

33.20 in 15 games is a good return for Mitch. 3.5 scoring shots per game.

Is our best forward. Thank god we never seriously considered moving him on.

What makes him our best forward is that he can kick goals in different ways. He can take a big pack mark, he can use his pace to take a mark on the lead and his much improved skills below his feet have now made him dangerous at ground level.

When you think about Dixon he's probably unlikely to kick a goal from anything other than a contested mark whilst Hot Toddy only kicks goals from uncontested marks hard up against the boundary line.

Definite and sudden improvement in Mitch's game. Someone has to have been working with Mitch on his kicking. A couple of his goals from the boundary in the past few weeks have been a revelation. The problem now is that he has Robbie Gray syndrome in that he gets the ones you don't expect him to kick but misses those from in front. Hopefully that improves as well.

Overall I, who have been critical, am really impressed with Mitch's leading, marking and kicking and he is beginning to look like a real spearhead. A return of 11.3 over three weeks is a great improvement.

Another pleasing aspect from last night's game was the way that Mitch and Ratugolea were able to work together up forward. Esava looks much better up forward and looks like he could co exist alongside Mitch.

Nothing sudden about it. He's been building for quite some time. Your call that he was the club's worst kick for goal in 50 years was as ridiculous then as it is now.
