We will be able to attract talent and if we can get the right guys for the right price and in the right age bracket we will be fine. I think anything from Freo's pick (edit: their 2nd rounder not Bolton picks) or later should be tradable for a player as we have too many points to give to Brissy for pick 14.

Not buying the 6 or 7 years either given we will have so many first rounders in one hit including the pick of the bunch for a few years.

This isn't our first rodeo either. Who are our Houli and Grigg targets? Fringe player swap & a 3rd round pick offered (ended up PSD which was even better) Do GWS have a quickish half back behind Whit/Lachie Ash or Swans with a small forward behind Papsmear? Fahey & Konstanty come to mind. This was Blair's specialty at the start of the Dimma rebuild.

KPF is a hard position to moneyball. Hawks have done very well with Chol tbh, if we could get a comparable player for peanuts we'd be laughing.
Great summation. I think we will sign some fringe players, we kind of have to. There is definitely some talent out there not being utilised. Hope we identify the right ones.

Could we offer Essendon Hopper and Lynch for pick 8, and we pay a big portion of their salaries?

They get one extra midfielder that they probably need, and a key forward that they desperately need, and they give themselves a good chance at top 4 for the next few years.

will never happen, neither want to go and Richmond will never be a destination club again if we treat players like this

2 years should be the max. If we’re not in a position to push for finals in 2027 we’ve done something wrong or been really unlucky.

There’s 25-30 players that will be on our list next year that are on our list now that will be under 30 on 1 January 2027. 50% or more of those players should be best 22 (12-15). We should be taking 12 odd players in the next two drafts and should expect at least 50% success with the quality of our picks so there’s another 6 players.

If we find 2-4 decent mature age recruits cheap, grab a free agent or two and pick up a couple more guns in 2026 draft we should be set for success.

How do you know neither want to go? I'm not saying we force them out.

But Hopper came thinking we were on the doorstep of more success, now we've had an exodus. If anything he is the opposite and does want out. Lynch, well, he won't be around for any future tilt and there were supposedly rumours he wasn't happy. 2 years in the wilderness can do that to you and he may also be disenchanted about how things are going at the club.

You would have to assume the Bombers are close enough to being on the cusp of top 4 that they want to improve NOW rather than just keep hitting the draft. There aren't that many good available free agents that would improve Essendon, but Hopper and Lynch would definitely improve them. They are missing another midfielder and a key forward.

They can use points to match a later bid for Kako so they're gonna be getting a top 10-15 level talent for basically free anyway, and small forwards can often impact early.

The trade may well set them up.

We should find out tomorrow and I’m not as confident as you on Baker. Going out on a limb here and will say both he and Bolton will request trade’s to Fremantle. His meeting with their leadership team and staff was very persuasive from what I’m led to believe.

Honestly would be shocked if he stays after what I heard a few weeks ago.

As I said.

Richmond this trade period getting all the draft picks

They're not going to be in our next premiership team. May as well rip the band-aid off now and get it over and done with. Short-term pain for long-term gain.
Agree it will be for the greater good but we aren’t just ripping off a band aid

We are essentially ripping off the whole arm with it

The pain may be short term but the next 2 - 3 seasons are going to be very grim in terms of on field performance

Bolton and Graham potentially coul be
That's true. I was referring more to Rioli and Baker. Either way, I'm happy for them all to leave pending we're appropriately compensated. This draft period could set us up for our next period of success.

Bolton, whilst a gun, isn't the type of player to carry the club through dark times. He's a cherry on the cake player and right now we don't have the cake

Graham I don't think will ever be anything more than a serviceable second-string midfielder, so I have no qualms with him leaving.

Was told a few weeks ago, Baker told Livingston that his heart was in WA for a variety of reasons and despite how much he loves the club and respects the position (they offered more leadership) he just wanted to get back. The undecided nature of it was he was always keen on WCE. But met with Freo leaders and young stars and some key staff. His head was definitely turned as they showed him a United playing group and stable club hellbent on winning a flag. Right after that, WCE sacked Adam Simpson. There are reports that Liam will wait to see who the coach is. I’m adamant unless it’s someone with a huge respected CV which I doubt, his choice will be the Dockers.

I will also state that Liam has advised his management Richmond have to be adequately compensated in any deal and he won’t want us being screwed.

Love bakes, always will.

Not sure if it makes it easier or harder seeing these players leave the club still loving the club and on good terms. Oh well.

You're putting a fair bit of faith in West Coast and North 🤔
They are quite easily ahead of us.

They are currently, and post this off season they will be even more ahead..

The only way we somehow don't get the next few spoons is if we have a developed game plan, and some younger players really take the next step and surprise us. All the draftees we are about to select are not going to make us a better team next year or 2.

After Tassie comes in, we should be rising fast if we play it right

North will rise. I’ve no doubt. Too many good kids now with 30 games under belt. High end talent. Eventually it just clicks. They won’t be world beaters but they are years ahead of us.

WCE are a mess. They will be down with us for a while.

At least the Pies and Melbourne will join us soon enough
The fact that we are supercharging this next step of the rebuild will give me great solace

We are doing the right thing, hopefully.

I think Collingwood rise next year. Melbourne who knows. For me getting rid of a Petracca for some other quality will help them.

We have to go full on with draft picks before Tassie. Simply have to.

Only time will tell if we are doing the “right” thing but the positive is that the club has to decided to go all in, in one direction

it’s always better to make a decision that may turn out to be the incorrect one in hindsight over sitting on our hands and making half measures in opposite directions resulting in nothing
