Isn't this move mega risky if LDU leaves now? As it would mean Band 1 would be (at best) for us Pick 20?

We would simply match the offer and make St Kilda or whoever trade for him. And the cost would be very high

Sorry mate that is crap. If we don’t take a player we want that falls in the range of our valuation of him (if we rate him at the value of F1) because of some need to pay only what some future pick might be worth then we are daft.

The only thing that matters is our valuation of Whitlock. If we are happy that him and f2 is worth f1 you do the deal.

In 5 yrs if Whitlock is a good player for us no one will care
No offence to Matt, but if we rate him as a top 5 level player we are nuts.

Accepting that we do, and he is, no other club comes even close to rating him that high. That should be a competitive advantage that we can exploit. We used it to exploit ourselves.

Play or get played. We got played right up the jacksy.

What would have you said if we traded f1 for ten and took him?

It appears we rated him early to late teens so from that perspective if we’ve rated him that high and got a f2 likely to be a high one it’s no where near a disaster.

I reiterate if he pays off no one will remember this trade.

How likely we collect the full set of Whitlock's tonight?
0.5% chance. Even the NM media release on him mentioned that he’d be playing against his brother. Twomey said that we’d draft Stevens tonight and we are only expected to draft three in total. I suspect we will also pick up a DFA later.

I would’ve said why did we use pick 10 on a guy we could probably have got with pick 30.

But agree with your point, if he’s good no one will care.

I'll never forget it. Never. Not until the day I die. I'll write a note to my daughter to hold a grudge and keep the grudge going in our family for eternity. Or marry well as you ain't getting shit off of Dad. She's only 2, she seemed to take it well!

Well, that would be a major mistake.

I was under the impression we'd be taking 3 draftee's + River in ND/RD absorbing the RD or Main list spot. I've never considered River to be one of those 3, as it's obviously we'd be able to auto list him as a rookie.

Not burning a main list spot and then holding open the rookie spot for a SSP in a deep draft. We will get a long term injury.

River will not be bid on in the MD. This will be a backhander to another ex-player, again.

If the club has decided to take River as the last main list spot in this draft and leave the RD spot open, with some of these names left on the board....

I just can't with these decision makers anymore.....

The obviously play here is to try and get Jack, they've made their bed, they have to go through with it.... If we aren't going to go after Jack because of list spots and some sort of commitment to the Stevo's, ****ing hell.

I'm sure giantroo will be able to confirm via his Whatsapp. I may be more angry at this than the trade, which is a fair effort....

Taking only 2 live picks with our list holes would be ridiculous tbh.

Just an extract on NM article titled "Five things to know about Matt Whitlock" for context

3. He's likely to line up on his brother in the near future

Having endured fierce battles in countless sports as young brothers on their 80-acre Shepparton family farm, it’s fitting that Matt – who was born two minutes after his twin - and Jack Whitlock will get to lock up on an AFL field some day in the near future. With both destined to have an impact at the highest level, it was a race to see who would be selected first on draft night. In the event, Matt edged the honours, becoming a Kangaroo with the final pick of the draft's opening night.

article makes think jack is very unlikely to end up here too.

Yeah I’m not chuffed either. We need another genuine KPF and as you say we may as well just go all in and offer the rest of the 2025 hand up and have faith that young talent will come on

So far ive seen it go from Top 15, top 10, top 5.
Just waiting for someone to say we rate him as a top 0 player.

Thank you. Absolutely spot on.
Not only that the original poster has our F1 listed as Pick 7… we went from 3 wins to 3 wins with a worse percentage and apparently we’re winning 8 or 9 games next season.

He also has their pick as pick 19…
This 1) assumes Richmond finishes bottom (we were lucky to beat them last year in a close game) 2) it won’t be pick 19, it’s just creative accounting on his part that is fooling no one.

Have the AFL announced anything about the F/S and academy bidding changes next year onwards?
Do we have to match bids with picks in the same round? AFL should really tell clubs in advance.
Is there a chance we woud need two 1sts to match bids in 2026 on Harris and McCartney?
If they become highly rated, we could move that 2025 Tigers R2 for a 2026 R1 and 2025 R2 or move in a 2027 R1.
We might not move our 2026 R1 into 2025 so easily if they look like good prospects.

We've gone into this draft with four open spots and the intent is to use them.

Tigers don’t have a F2 to flip back
Yes I know. Tigers aren't giving anything back, they get a F1 and F2. There will be a lot of teams offering their F1's, so either the best F1 wins the pick (Bombres? WCE? Saints?) or the team that adds a F1 plus a F2 might get it.
Teams will likely have to pay a high price to get it imo with a lot of competition for it.

Not having a future first in 2025 is choking you inside isn't it?..

Draft time is your time to shine, the BF faithful gathering around and hanging off your every draft word like Jesus giving out free advice to his disciples..

The days of early first round picks are going fast and once our kids get another 30+ games into them our first rounders will be 14 onwards.. looks like you'll have to get a real job now.
Gezuz Sherm....pretty harsh bro
