Half Baked Boo GIF

It wasn't an issue before we picked him.

AFL clubs can't do their own medicals and he hid it.

There were no red flags at the time and it's not concerning at all, as the other players with the same issue have all returned to footy with no issues.

AFL clubs can't do medicals on draftees pre draft.

just kidding
Straight to the gimp room, you're banned!
But hey, it's not an impossibility (Hewett's foot), just don't want to entertain that thought.
The melts will pick up soon enough, training ramps up, injuries, scratchies...

Which when you think about it is pretty unfair.
In a normal Employer/Employee situation the Employer can request the applicant do a medical before they are employed.
Are the clubs the actual Employer or is it the AFL themselves? The clubs are the ones paying the wages so they should be considered the employer and therefore have the right to request a potential employee do a medical, like any workplace.
But, AFL I guess.

Pretty sure it’s because they are 17/18 year olds usually in their last year of school so they don’t want 18 clubs requesting a kid to do 18 medicals.

Or they could just do one at an approved clinic and make it available upon request.
I know they are only still kids but they are about to embark on a possible dream job/career and at the same time clubs are committing a list position to them so yeah just seems a bit weird you can't know the current "health" of a potential employee.

There’s conflicting information on the medicals prospective draftees are required to have and to whom that information is available. I’m pretty it was reported that Hewett’s injury was disclosed to the AFL before the draft. If that is true, it begs the question of why it wasn’t provided to the Eagles.

Pretty sure this is what already happens?

They do one medical and then the AFL provides those results with the clubs.

The AFL doesn't provide all the relevant info to clubs. It's why it needs to be done independently.

The article states:

“The findings of this assessment, along with their past medical history, including injuries, illnesses, medications, surgeries, scans and more, are added to the league's medical platform, which can be accessed by relevant staff from all 18 clubs.”

Are you suggesting that’s not correct?
