We all know how big a role confidence plays in a footballer's performance. I wonder how much better Blake would be with a bit of that confidence from his own team mates. I feel so sorry for the big fella when that happens. Give him a chance, especially considering his kicking efficiency which is...
Re: Blake & Wojo
The situation is simple, the job of a 2nd ruckman is to win taps, which Blake does excellently. That's his job, and he does it better than any other in his position in the league.
Regarding the miss from a 45 degree angle, can I refer you to the 2nd quarter, where a very...
Re: Milburn's bump
From what I've seen of the vision, it was a fair bump and Cornes' nose collided with the side of Milburn's head. If that's the case, how would the MRP treat it, especially since the intended collision was legal (like Harbrow) but accidental head clash occured.
Re: Pods
Great set of hands, and played well under huge pressure. Tough call for next week's game, he'll either miss out, or perhaps stay in if Blake is left out and Moons or Hawkins help's out in the ruck.
Those bending-along-the-ground kicks that you see curve into the goals (e.g. Osbourne's) are great to watch, but are overrated by many, including most commentators, and don't really deserve GOTY.
Re: Harry Taylor is the Q9
You can't teach or train his ability to take so many crucial, contested marks. He's a gem, and hopefully moves from strength to strength.
If I ever got that chance, I'd bring up the press conference in 2005, when Thompson defended Ottens.
"For some silly reason, you people want to assassinate him. It's just rubbish. You people, all of you, ALL OF YOU, leave him alone!".
Re: Blake, Mummy or Ottens
If this thread is posing the question, "Who is the best suited ruckman to play alongside Brad Ottens", then it's hard to go past Mark Blake. A secondary ruckman comes on when Ottens is resting, comes on and wins ruck contests, wins the taps. This is the secondary...
Some good news to come out of this, with the AFL streaming all games this weekend through BigPond TV.
http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/208/newsid/79469/default.aspx
Good to see the AFL are doing something about this. I hope there is a long term fix though. I tell you what, I...
Absolutely shattering. Just 3 weeks after my subscription, couldn't get much worse. I saw it happen last night. It was ironic that an hour later I decided to flick to EuroSport and watched the Geelong - Fremantle game. Although small, there is a market for broadcasting live games every week and...
Two weeks ago I had Virgin Media TV installed, with the sole intention of being able to watch some Cats games on Setanta. This news is just prolonging my shocking run of bad luck, regarding AFL viewing. Hopefully someone or something can financially prop up Setanta soon, or else the UK will lose...
Ox is a hopeless special commentator. He is incredibly average.
The game has been fairly entertaining in my book so far, Demitriou would be happy with the score and the contest so far.
In reference to Australia's performance, there is too much toe-poking and not enough long kicking...
If you're not going to focus on the topic of the thread, don't post.
Although I believe Ablett was stiff, we're talking about how he was definitely in the top 5 players on the day, not necessarily BOG.
Hence, the fact that many coaches rated Hodge as BOG is rendered irrelevant.
Great thread 'Heapoie', I couldn't have agreed with you more. I find it so frustrating when people don't receive the credit and accolades they deserve, i.e. Ablett.
He may not have been BOG, but Ablett was definitely in the top 5, so the fact that Johnson and Eade failed to mention him...
The Norm Smith Medal is awarded to the player which an independent panel of experts have adjudged to have been the best player in the match.
It has nothing to do with the winning team.
The only reason that there is some correlation is because the winning team generally includes the best...
Rash generalisation alert. Please explain why I'm a "tool", using evidence from my posts.
Where have I not shown humility or an ounce of respect. Again, use evidence from my quotes, rather than generalising.
You've got it all wrong; you've seen some words written, you haven't thought, and...
Re: Congratulations Adam Coney 2008 Brownlow Medalist
At no point have I been "justifying why he shouldnt have won it". If you look back at previous posts, I've either been:
- Dispelling ridiculously lowly arguments containing expletives, or:
- Voicing my disgust over players like Black and...
Re: Congratulations Adam Coney 2008 Brownlow Medalist
After finally figuring out what you actually wrote, I have this in reply:
Firstly, why would I sook, at no point have I been angry, annoyed or sad that a Geelong player didn't win the Brownlow.
Secondly, why would I be jealous. Not...
If that's the case, and it's as simple as that, tell the AFL and media to not refer to it as the 'Best & Fairest'.
I'm certainly not complaining about Ablett, nor any other Geelong players (except perhaps Bartel), but I'm frustrated with the system. This is the system which is promoted as the...
